b-but DOUBLE THE POWAH OF GPU!!!!!!! which will be low-mid end when nvidia drops pascal in a few months.

If sony had balls, they should just release ps 5 right now with 4ghz 16 core cpu, newest gtx 1080 titan 32gb vram and 16gb ram.

Now this would be a console that could do 4k and run those squeenix tech demos in real time.

The funny thing is, consoles have a major advantage over pcs. On a pc any graphics code you write for a game is done through a graphics API, on consoles you can write directly to the hardware.

Xbox one at first suffered from this issue since for some dumb reason Microsoft made you use the DirectX 11 API but since then they've allowed developers to write directly to the hardware. DirectX 12 should solve this problem somewhat by raising the draw call limit (For reference, the DX11 draw call limit was 6'000 but consoles were able to do 10'000 - 20'000).

However, consoles will still have a very important hardware benefit, even if the hardware inside a pc is better in every way. Sony, Microsoft and the devs know exactly what hardware will be inside the machine and they will knows its specific quirks and issues. With pcs you could have any combination of different hardware which makes getting the CPU, the RAM and the GPU working together harder and slower as compared to consoles which have very low latency communication in that same regard.

This is the kind of thing people were joking about few years ago, idea that Sony and MS plan to release consoles with replaceable/upgradeable hardware or that they plan to release slightly upgraded revisions every few years (where older versions would still be able to run newest games, only with with scaled down visuals and worse framerate, until they finally stop support for oldest versions). Even the idea that console games will feature PC-like graphic settings was considered as unlikely.

Current games will not receive any performance upgrades by being played on the newer system. Any upgrades that come would do so via game-specific patches released by developers. When asked if this was going to happen, the response was, “It’s a possibility but doubtful with the exception of a handful of games."
>twice as powerful GPU
>games still run as badly as before

These are the results of that "advantage".

b-but DOUBLE THE POWAH OF GPU!!!!!!! which will be low-mid end when nvidia drops pascal in a few months.

If sony had balls, they should just release ps 5 right now with 4ghz 16 core cpu, newest gtx 1080 titan 32gb vram and 16gb ram.

Now this would be a console that could do 4k and run those squeenix tech demos in real time.
And who would buy that machine on that price? People would never pay for console a 1000 bucks.

I don't know if AMD's Fury X is their current top tier card, but if you compare just the number of Compute Cores, the Fury X would easily be about twice as powerful as this card.
That's without comparing any of the little details about those 'computer cores', so that new PS4 GPU may well be far more powerful than 2x, and that like wise can be said of comparisons with the new one and the Fury X.

Which is to say this GPU may already be in the low-mid end before AMD or NVIDIA even release their next line of GPUs.

So, Lorne Lanning (Oddworld fame) got a chance to ask the Playstation chief Suhei Yoshida at some dinner what's the PS5 gonna look like. And Yoshii replied "you mean if!".

Seems like there won't be a PS5, but rather more PS4 iterations to serve highly iterative VR products (think of the same cadence as smart phones).

Well, to me, VR will only become interesting if they come in sunglasses size and 8K/144Hz specs. I'm not gonna put on a goofy helmet ffs.

Furthermore, word on the streets is that any games releasing in late september will be given NEO support in a day one patch but games releasing in October forward will require it out of the box.
No. Before Klepek took them into the indie clique and they went full-SJW, sure, but not these days when they hired a random retard just because he isn't white.

Austin Walker, while having some SJW opinions, is a pretty good journalist as seen by him reporting on this issue. They report on indie games and talk to their developers because that's their job you idiot.

Meanwhile, my 4 years old 2500K and 2 years old GTX970 shit all over future PS4, not only in terms of processing power but in terms of available games.

Keep trying, plebs. :smug:

I'm using a i7 920 which came out in November 2008, that's almost eight fucking years. And it's still powerful enough to run everything at 1920x1200@60fps with a little overclocking.

I doubt the overclocking even makes a difference. It should run everything just fine anyway.

Depends on the engine, Frostbite likes a beefy CPU IIRC. But most don't care much about the CPU beyond a certain point.

Just outta curiosity, what was the most recently released game you played?
