...well then there's no redeeming it...I should just skip the Borderlands game play and go straight to the DLC package included I think. Much like my GTA 4 purchase...it's been a mixed bag. *sigh* GOTY my ass...

RAGE gets my seal of approval.

While not particularly challenging ("Nightmare" difficulty is ye olde "Normal"), the game's art direction is of generally good quality - an incredibly rare feat these days.

Towns feel very organic, weapons look cool and industrial, dungeons and landscapes have a very good sense of post-apocalyptic desolation about them, and the gameworld is coherent enough to warrant a few excuses. VIP character and vehicle design is about my only complain in this department. That, and the music of course.

All in all, if it you've got good taste in art, don't doubt, just play it!

It's an objective truth, to be honest. Just as some people don't have the IQ to fully comprehend advanced scientific concepts, some people can't understand art. The fact that you can't grasp what I said doesn't mean it's an opinion.

Deal with it.

Why are you deliberately trying to be a really bad parody of your own self? It's not even subtle that you are throwing other poster's stereotype of you back in their faces.

Deliberately being a parody of yourself or being a bad parody of yourself and not even realizing it. Which is better and why ???

Game tanked like a motherfucker. 500k all platform in the US for 7 years of development hell, I'm pretty sure even duke forever did better than that.

Apparantly the game is still unplayable for many with ATI cards. Amazing.
Have they even released an update since that first one in the launch week? I'm STILL waiting for them to get their act together before I bother thinking about getting it (especially since I do have an ATI).

It really looks like there will never be a patch doesn't it.

Ensemble, another (once) wealthy studio from Texas, shut doors very quickly despite past successes due to just one commercial failure.

Could the same happen to id? While all their past series have been far more legendary successes than the games of Ensemble, I just feel id's days are numbered.

Developer obituary columns anyone?

I wasn't. Guess I've become too EXTREME for these forums.

Or maybe I don't care about your opinions anymore so I just throw mine in and log out; "light fuse and get away" discipline.

You know, I haven't played Rage and don't plan to for another year, if that. As usual with 'modern publishers' we have to wait for them to patch it and finish making the game with their all-in-one DLCs. On top of that it sounds like a suck-hole console shooter.

Was Enemy Territory Quake Wars really the last fast and fun multiplayer game? Did it come out the same month as Call of Duty 4?

We had (and still have) a super fast, normal twitch shooter with classes, objectives and asymmetrical team based warfare. Versus, what? A slowed down team deathmatch fuckfest?

I think it kicks the hell out of BF2. I have no opinion on BF3 or CODXXX and doubt I ever will.

What a horrible turn of events, eh?

Quake Wars is fucking awesome. I have some many awesome demos recorded of doing awesome things in that game.

It would just require a ton of time to play all that shit back, record it with FRAPS and make a promotional video in order to get more people into it.

Since this is being talked about in the Carmack thread I thought I'd also try it out and play the game (it was on my list for a while anyway), did anyone actually manage to properly Fix that damned Texture PopIn during the game on the PC/Steam version?

I found some various threads in regards to that, but it doesn't seem to do it entirely:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2189752
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25555016&postcount=13

Also, for some of the people complaining about the Gameplay features (stuff like disabling regenerating health, improving difficulty further and whatnot) I also found this including a lot of "Gameplay Tweaks": http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2166471

Edit: Nvm I figured it out:

Need to create a Texture cache folder "C:\Users\*UserName*\AppData\Local\id Software\Rage" (otherwise the game will apparently not use it)

And this needs to go into "Steam\SteamApps\common\RAGE\base" as rageconcig.cfg (need over 1GB VRAM on graphics card)
Code:
//16k textures
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 16384
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 16384
vt_pageimagesizeunique 16384
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192

//reduced texture streaming
vt_maxPPF 16

//level of detail tweaks
vt_lodBias -2
image_lodbias -2
image_usecompression 0
vt_feedbacklodbias -1

//4x anisotropic filtering
vt_maxaniso 4
image_anisotropy 4

//Nvidia CUDA
vt_useCudaTranscode 2

By the way, I didn't exactly know where to Post it since there were various RAGE threads like:
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/so-rage.25583/
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/new-rage-trailer-sure-is-fallout-around-here.34831/

http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/rage.35393/
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/rage-update.43754/
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/rage-new-screenshots.54937/
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/rage-untethered-trailer.55968/
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/rage-is-looking-very-promising.61856/
Till I found this one.

Maybe someone can merge the others to one grorious RAGE Megathread.

I never had texture pop-in to any real degree, it seems like a hit and miss thing perhaps dependent on your hardware.

Even with the best textures on at all times indoor stuff looks like shit though. Outdoors looks alright.

For a game made by a supposed technical genius it has an amazing amount of technical flaws. When the forums where filled with raging customers who couldn't run the game there never was any dev response, while Carmack himself was twittering about his newfound love for do-it-yourself rockets. After all this time the game is still a mess on a shitload of setups. Guess Carmack really did not give a shit.
