Don't know about these particular games, I just don't want to be treated like a 14 year old who needs to see pantyshots or characters design right out of a strip-club like the magician from the last star ocean.

The problem with them taking cues from ecchi is not the sex, it is how untasteful that portrayal of sexuality is. I'm not white knighting, I just find it tacky, immersion-breaking. It makes characters look like clowns all the time.

She could be in a burka and those bombs would still be on display. To be fair, he was really just complaining (with some hyperbole) that the anime art style sucks. It has its place in certain JRPG's, but it really shouldn't be as dominant as it is.

It all comes back to the simple fact that Japanese game developers are isolated, and too risk averse. Souls was an anomaly, and even its success wasn't enough to change the status quo.

My problem is that I used to say that your average JRPG cast was not worse than your average Dragonlance/bunch of british knights cast, but the cast in particular in games like Criminal girls or Mugen Souls or your average Ar Tonelico is actually much, much worse than your average Dragonlance cast to the point that I couldn't play such games.

About anime art, I like some anime art and I definitely wish more JRPGs looked like Legend Of Mana, Breath Of Fire 3, Dragon Quest 8 (11), Valkyria Chronicles, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia, Ni No Kuni... Good anime is good, it's the abundance of moe or super edgy (when it's not even worse with a mix of moe and edgy once again like in Mugen Souls or criminal girls) which is problematic as far as I'm concerned.

With that much population you are going to have a substantial amount of people that are essentially goofs retards autists whatever you want to call them. Their animation industry fucked up big time by making animation character pornography for these retards and now its spilled over into their gaming market and degrading its quality.

I don't care about graphics, it's gameplay that counts. And japanese developers know how to do it right. At least, most of the time. Maybe, because they don't hate games and gamers.

And i'll still take mugen souls animu art however generic it is over billionth pseudooldschoolcrudepixels of the western indies. At least in japanese generic games you can understand what happened on the screen.

More "info" about the 25th Anniversary of SMT. For those who missed it, the HD project is a new SMT game coming for the Nintendo Switch. The teaser had allusions to Nocturne and SMT4A with the new Odin redesign.

Edit: Apparently the HD Project is SMT5? That's what the trailers and people on the internet are calling it.
