Sophisticated dialogues are conveying the ongoing plot. Even so there won't be interactive text floods which retain the adventurous TDE-fan. "We gave a limit for the text length in dialogues, they must be as short as possible", Jan Lechner, leader of the project says. "One staff member is currently busy with decreasing the text length to a minimum."

"We wanted to implement a turn-based fight system like in "Baldur´s Gate", but we knew for sure that the events has to be staged with much more visual action", Bernd Beyreuther comments.
Errrr....

"Baldur´s Gate in 3D as a vision also means a high importance of the characters and the story.

It's pretty pathetic that they got the history wrong. Although not more pathetic than saying "dialogues [...] must be as short as possible" I guess.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. If they can convey the same amount of information in fewer words without sacrificing the "soul" of the characters, then I don't see the problem. People generally don't say as much in conversation as NPCs do in many text-heavy RPGs, especially if they are complete strangers.

It also depends on whether or not the game features voice acting. Lengthy dialogues work quite well in prose or in text-only games, but spoken dialogue is almost always much jmore brief than its written counterpart. And unless we're playing My Dinner With Andre: The Game, that seems right.

And some of those characters in Serpent Isle would just go on and on... Even compared to The Black Gate those dialogues were lengthy.

Ok, then its confirmed. Those idiots have no idea of good game/rpg design or even the slightest knowledge of basic gaming therminology (Baldurs Gate turn based? Yeah.)

DSA 4 is gonna suck, how could we have even expected otherwise for more than a second.
Fuck it.

Wow, you're a veritable bundle of joy and optimism, aren't you?

While not everything that has been reported about this game so far seems ideal, I still have hopes that it will be a fun game.

Quite the opposite. I'm fast to get optimistic if I have the slightest signs that the game may turn out to be good - like in the case of the Witcher and Bioshock.

However, my general stance to new games is that they are gonna be shit, since shit is what this industry produces since a few years.

And what exactly makes you think the contrary about DSA 4? Hell, yeah DSA 1-3 were great.
But Fallout was great too, so was Brotherhood of Steel?
This game will have nothing in common with the old DSA games besides licence and ruleset and will be developed by idiots who havent anything on their record so far besides a sishing simulator and a soap opera game.

I'll just be surprised if the damned thing ever is released. This is the 3rd project set in the DSA world to be announced. Thus far none have seen the light of day.

It sucks the combat is the dreaded RT Pause nonsense, but I'm anxious to see how this one turns out. I'm sure it will be a shadow of the former RoA games, but I loved that series so much I can't wait for another installment.

Yeah. It's more the emphasis i don't like. They seem to be going out of their way to tell us how short the dialogues are, reassuring us that there won't be much reading.

I thought RoA was good because of the 'atmosphere' and dialogue most of all. If they do cut out the dialogue 'to a minimum' then this project is dead.

The relationship between Drakensang and the RoA games is about the same as between Baldur's Gate and the Gold Box games: The same PnP setting and PnP ruleset, but there was never any intention of the new game being a sequel to the previous ones.

CRPG gamers outside Germany only knew about DSA from the RoA games, so we mistakenly assumed that a new DSA game would be related to RoA, when there's really no connection.
