This is my first post here. Hello everyone I want to buy a great story and roleplaying CRPG. I want it too have more than 2 person partys sometimes. I dont want to spend all my time fighting I would like it to have magic. Long isnt a bonus for me, Im goning to be very bussy in 2 months and am bussy, but not too, until then. I just made the mistake of buying Beyond Divinity It is mindless. I like thinking when playing games. If there is a ton of fightinh (as I guess all have) Then I would like it to be fun, smart fighting. Please give sslightly longer descriptions of the games you reccommend than you did in the othere game reccommendation topics. There were so many games reccommended without descriptions I couldent pick one from there. This is llikely my last (also not far from first) RPG I will ever play. Probably last computer game too.

Thank you. You seem like a very CRPG knowledgable group. Please tell me how many CRPGs you have played, roughly.

I should add that I am not going to pick fallout. Im going to pick one with magic. Maybe I should play that beautiful high fantiscy strategy/rpg that got rave reviews last year or one before? I forget the name.

Does planescape have partys? I read it was more zoomed in, did that bother you?

Behind you.
Planescape does have parties. Also, if you like magic, being a wizard is more fun in that game than any other class is.

If you can handle some bugs and the graphics, though, I'd recommend Prelude to Darkness. It's actually got two plots that lead to the same end. Oh, and three schools of magic.

You are a little vauge about parties. Do you want direct control of NPCs? If you can do with out direct control I'd recommend Arcanum. Planescape: Torment is a classic, and does give you direct control, finding a copy can be pretty tough though. Temple of Elemental Evil is weak in the story department, but does give you direct control of a party and is based on the DnD lisence, thus has magic.

As for high fantasy RPG released last year... I don't know what you are taking about. I know of only four major RPGs released last year:

Eye of the Dragon
Beyond Divinity
Sacred
Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines

The first one is trash, and the next two our Diablo clones which I haven't played. Bloodlines is a Troika RPG, and a pretty solid one at that. No parties or magic per se, though. And you'll want a gig of RAM to play it as its meant to be played (slight exaggeration). There that should be enough games to get you started. Check out gamespot or ign reviews if you want to know more about them.

I meant parties with controlable characters.

You didnt tell me anything about THE AVERNUM SERIES Does it mean my criteria?

My primary character will be a spell caster, not warrior.

I will probably do only one of the 2 stories, does that effect your reccommendation?

The game I vaguely mentioned is more of a strategy game than an PRG one where you have heroes that lead small armies and there are lots of cities. It has beautiful very detailed art map. I have the review in a mag. I will look for it.

great story and roleplaying (fallout excluded):
arcanum - magic and technology, excellent character dev. system, great dialogue, easy combat, great story (spoof on being the chosen one actually)
planescape torment - the best writing & characters ever to grace the pc
geneforge - sci-fi mixed with fantasy, immersive story, create your own servants, solve quests in multiple ways, heavy on combat but not owerwhelming like baldur's gate, primitive graphics, takes few minutes to get used to them

The version of Prelude on Zero Sum's website is out of date I think. You'll have to download it elsewhere to get the most recent version.

If this will likely be your last RPG, then you should definitely go with Planescape: Torment. It meets your requirements and is a game that every gamer should experience at least once. As others have said, the story and setting can be quite interesting. The combat can be weak at times, but it didn't bother me. Also, I never played as a wizard.

"If this will likely be your last RPG, then you should definitely go with Planescape: Torment" - this is an absolute must for anyone with an even remote interest in rpgs

"Avernum > Geneforge, and Geneforge 3 is the closest to multiple NPCs anyways" - i just couldn't handle the way your party moves, no animation whatsoever.

I should have explained ehy I am probably going to stop playing computer games. I feel bad about possibly making you feel I dont think its a good hobby. I love good RPGs. The reason I will probably quit is I will soon be a disciple of The Supreme Master, Ching Hai Wu Shang shih. Practicing the Quan Yin Method requires minimum 2.5 hours meditation every day. I am also a full time student studying to be a scientist so I wont have much time.

Thanks for your reccommendations. I will try the 3 games suggested so far if I have time before my initiation (Instant Enlightment) . Prelude To darkness first because it is easier to find than planescape. If any of you are interested in realising your trueself/original, god nature and having the power to make a real difference in the world plus preform miracles in just one life time, possible less than a decade or even less. I highly reccomend you read about her. You will also be able to know everything or almost everything. you will also be able to meet god and saints. You will also be extremely blissful. The meditation is extremely enjoyable/extasy/bliss. Its is mindblowingly good from the first time (initiation) on. She says meditating without being initiated by a master is a waist of time.

Me having the reccommendations I need shouldent keep you from reccommending. This is a much better reccommendation thread than the others. The others made no distinction between arcade CRPGs and Roleplaying CRPGs. They also lacked any discription of the games being reccommended. unless you wanted to spend many hours researching all the titles reccommended the other reccommendation threads were mostly useless.

Thanks again for participating in such a helpful friendly forum. The realm of CRPGs is one that deffinately needs guides to explore without waisting tons of time and some money.

Ill check this thread some more times. Ill post it when I find a site with prelude to darkenss that works for my comp

Detractors have thought that Master Ching Hai may only be teaching these methods for her own profit, thus the media giving her the nickname, "Part Buddha, Part Madonna". Since claiming to attain enlightenment, she has opened vegetarian restauraunts, held public seminars, became a fashion designer, and a beauty makeover consultant.

As part of their meditation routine, followers of Master Ching Hai regularly mask their heads under a sheet of cloth or blanket. They claim that this aids in meditation and brings them closer to enlightment. It has been suggested that without proper ventilation, one might be become more susceptable to suggestions and hallucinations.

In 1996, Master Ching Hai openly asked her followers to contribute money to the Clinton campaign following a meeting with cultist member Charlie Trie. It has now been learned that most of the checks delivered to the Presidential Legal Expense Trust were in Master Ching Hai's name.

Master Ching Has was recently investigated by the government of Taiwan. The authorities issued a warrant to search her centers in Taiwan for not paying taxes and to check if she has been involved in any illegal activities since the organization has so much funds in her bank account. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madonna

Just in case you were serious...
