As opposed to the endless praise RE4 gets on every corner of the internet?in response to Drakortha's endless complaining
On the other hand Code: Veronica is one of their, (and is the worst selling of their regular RE games)
The game was originally only released on Dreamcast. That ended up making the game fly a bit 'under the radar' for the casual audience. By the time it got released on other platforms the hype wasn't really there.
Re 2 was an action game compared to 1.This is Resident Evil 2. Stop it with the action game bullshit.
Just. Stop.Re 2 was an action game compared to 1.This is Resident Evil 2. Stop it with the action game bullshit.
It literally is! it has fewer puzzles, and more action set pieces even the bosses have mutation transitions with epic opera singing in the background. Hell, resident evil 3 added a dodge mechanic with a dynamic enemy that can chase you even when you exit an area, also it has a rocket launcher.Just. Stop.
The worst thing I can say about this remake without playing it in response to Drakortha's endless complaining is that its presence reminds us that Capcom will never make a game as ambitious as Resident Evil 4 again. If they don't already have a proven game whose design, story and art they can iterate on with a remake, then they will check off the same boxes as everybody else for cinematic CORRIDOR games and open world collect-a-thon RPG things, to reduce risk. There is too much inbred design now, too much money involved, too many investors, to make a AAA game that's fun and expansive.
Dragons Dogma is from the before times, the generation in which many Japanese studios struggled with the new expectations, when Sony dismantled much of Japan Studio (with Last Guardian in development hell and ending Team Ico as we know them as well). There's a reason we never got a sequel. Not sure I'd place it by RE4 in terms of expansiveness and production value anyway. The writing, acting and faces were low quality and there is a repetitive cheapness in the adventure. RE4 in comparison was really cinematic in a way developers can no longer grasp and had varied, richly textured environments. The worst thing I can say about this remake without playing it in response to Drakortha's endless complaining is that its presence reminds us that Capcom will never make a game as ambitious as Resident Evil 4 again. They’ve already made more ambitious games than Resident Evil 4 since the original Resident Evil 4 came out. Hell, Dragon’s Dogma was way more ambitious and it’s only just now getting a follow-up.
I can’t say I really mind Capcom returning to stuff at this moment given how often Japanese video game companies just randomly drop old series for little to no reason. Like, a Power Stone remake was listed in that 2020 leak. I welcome a Power Stone remake. Power Stone is fucking great and I wish Capcom hadn’t just stopped doing stuff with the series almost 23 years ago now. I wouldn’t mind seeing Capcom Japan make a new Dead Rising game. The Canadian studio really fucked that series, but the first two Dead Rising games are pretty great, and there’s really nothing else like it on the market. I really want to see what the hell the Final Fight and Captain Commando remakes are. I want to see them try their hand at a new Gun.Smoke like Red Dead was meant to be.
At what point can this be considered spam? MFer has to be real close. You guys are coping hard. RE4 is the game where they did a deep dive when they re-invented the entire formula and changed the entire DNA of Resdent Evil, where you are blasting away at coins and picking up loot from enemies. The only thing they forgot to add was a score board on the side of your screen. It is a shooting gallery of a game.
But you want to try to cope with that by claiming RE2 was an action game too. You are WRONG! The RE story dictated that the T-Virus spread into the city, so of course there was going to be more zombies to shoot and you would have more resources to do so. Is it more action oriented? Sure, but it keeps RE's DNA intact while doing so. It isn't anything close to the action-adventure shooting gallery genre that RE4 falls into.
It would be like comparing Fallout 2 and Fallout 3, and then claiming they are both similar games because Fallout 2 has more enemies and gun variety than Fallout 1. I'm sorry, that's retarded.
