Synthetic Man defends Crowbcat's RE remake video, even though he doesn't agree with everything about his comparisons.
Really puts into perspective how rabid some of these companies' fanboys can be...
I swear I'm not trying to be off-topic, but on that note the reason for this happening is due to social media and the rise of discord safe spaces. Nuance is being lost these days. People today do not want to struggle to think, to examine and be aware, they want to shut their brains off and listen to what's easy. Here's a good video that hits the nail in the head when it comes to modern "critics" and video makers as well as a somewhat balanced review of MGS. Skip to 23:00 if you don't want to watch the whole thing.
As for the "new" "fans" of RE4R, they are this weird conglomeration of trannies that love that freak Sphere Hunter on top of decline enablers that just love graphics and modern controls.
Modern video game critique (and this is happening with movies too now) has a big bandwagon problem. And these things can have nothing to do with the actual game itself. Resident Evil 6 and Metal Gear Survive are two big examples of this. The jury was out on MGS before it was even out because of the drama around Konami with Kojima. Is Survive perfect? No. But it is still a game build on the back of Metal Gear Solid 5’s fantastic gameplay, so it is still pretty good. But the reaction was it was the worst thing every, worst game of the year. And people would latch onto stupid shit just because Kojima said it. Like the zombies in MGS. Kojima said something about it as a negative, people wanted to be on Kojima’s side, so they just started repeating it without thinking...and you’d have to not think about it to just roll with that since MGSV had its own form of zombies in it. At a certain point it also seemed to become pretty clear some version of Survive (maybe as Silent Hills) likely started development under Kojima given the similarities between it and Death Stranding.
Resident Evil 6 is like that too. Does it have problems? Yes. It’s got lots of problems. It’s also got the best third person shooter gameplay since Vanquish, the best action gameplay of the whole Resident Evil series, (even after a decade and 9 new games of some type) and some of the best boss fights of the series. But people were bitching about it before it every came out because a vocal portion of fans on forums like NeoGAF wanted it to go back to what it was before RE4. And then a producer on the game said something about Call of Duty, and since Call of Duty is the worst thing ever that was used as cudgel to beat the game despite the game not even kind of being functionally similar to CoD outside of characters having guns they use to shoot things. It didn’t help that Capcom was in the middle of their “Appeal to America” thing, which helped form a narrative around RE6. Hell, people still use that, and Keiji Inafune, to try and form this narrative that the Inafune years of Capcom are the worst period of Capcom despite being the time Dead Rising, Lost Planet 1 & 2, and Dragon’s Dogma come out, Inafune being the one that had them build the MT Framework engine, and Capcom get back into fighting games under him.
