Never played Resident Evils before but I must say I'm enjoying the RE4R. It's a bit stupid in some ways (destroying yellow painted boxes like a retard, and which additionally while being very loud never alerts enemies), but shooting is just fun. The story could be better though because it's complete garbage.

The original is quite fantastic until you learn where you need to go after a couple of playthroughs and realize you can just run around everything except the bosses. I assume the remake has the exact same problem.

Resident Evil Celebration video...and yet complete absence of the original 'trilogy', Code Veronica and the original RE4 (and I like their remakes).

We'll have some laughs when they release some new remake of the first entry ignoring the beloved GC game.

Playing the demo again. Lack of shoulder swap bothers the hell out of me. Have to move so far out of cover to see what's there.

Don't like the way it handles. So zoomed in when you aim. Wobbly. Position of your character feels so floaty and imprecise.

Crappy, annoying (noisy) music.

Leon looks weird. Gaunt. Like he's sick. Or part Asian? Voice has half the charisma of the original.

Opening house too long.

Containers painted yellow because nothing stands out from all the detail.

I would say I'll wait for a bigger discount, but I don't even know. Don't really enjoy it.

Pretty sure you could shoulder swap when aiming
Tried every button on my keyboard and then every button on my controller. No shoulder swap. If you could swap while aiming, it would still be inadequate with the cam canted so far to one side. It would still blind you when moving normally through the environment.

Shoulder swapping isn't possible here. The whole game feels generally listless and devoid of passion. The emphasis on crafting has you constantly pausing in the midst of combat, which somewhat negates your ability to switch weapons without fiddling with menus. There's a degree of unresponsiveness to the combat that just makes the whole ordeal feel sloppy and amateurish. Enemies can teleport grab you, and there's no reliable way to avoid this move. Leon feels clumsy and sluggish to control, and as mentioned above, his face looks sickly.

This game was a waste of resources, and will likely be forgotten. Resident Evil as a whole feels like it's just spinning its wheels at this point.

Leon is sick for most of the game. Remember he got infected with the parasite? Resident Evil has also always had clunky movement. It adds tension to the combat and makes you more vulnerable. I feel like most of your comments on the gameplay apply to the original RE4. This remake was pretty faithful, and it didn't replace the originals on storefronts like a lot of companies do now. It wasn't a great game, or necessary. But not complete shit.

Cope with what? These games have always been a goof anyway. There's no way anyone could have possibly taken something like RE4 seriously, as it was perhaps narratively even wackier than the original with it's "Barry, Where's Barry?". Honestly as a fan the characters and stories in these games, along with the execution always made me laugh. The gameplay formula works and I enjoy them, even though it's been done a million times. I don't mind having a remake with some slightly altered levels and stuff. It was still fun, for what it was.

Yeah, but he's not infected at the beginning of the game and he still looks gaunt and malnourished. RE has typically had clunky combat (with the exception of 6), but the controls were at least predictable and reliable. With this remake however, there's something weird going on with animation priority, leaving you taking hits when you have no means of responding appropriately. There's no reliable way to avoid grabs, shoulder swapping should've been available, and knife parries sometimes don't execute like you'd expect them to, amongst other things. The original at least gave you i-frames during certain moves, which balances it out. It's obviously not complete shit, but in some funny way, it would've been more interesting to talk about if it was. As it stands, it's just kind of mediocre and uninspired - a sin more damning than outright being bad, which would at least get a few laughs.

Seems also like the text commentary is gone. I checked a few things out in the demo and the cam just focused but without any of the protagonist's mental commentary. You could say, graphics have come so far that you no longer need to write that (and I would disagree), but what about smell? It added atmosphere.

It's just an Ezekiel thing. A lover of modern third person games, the absolute horror in that. But he is somehow based nonetheless (recognizes a lot of them are braindead, like Batman Arkham whatever) and slowly inclining, one classic 90s game at a time. He has been playing LoZ: Link to the Past and the original Tomb Raider, which is a respectable place to start for 90s consumption, but has many more games to go. Also needs to bite the bullet and get into based first person games (and not the many bad ones). We must steer his navigation in these murky waters, from one incline to the next.

Ezekiel try Castlevania: SotN, Duke Nukem 3D, Half-Life, Mario Bros 3 and lets say Resident Evil 2 as your next foray into the classics.

Stfu and play Resident Evil 1 Remake. It's arguably one of the top 5 greatest games ever made. And then try the other games ofc.

Beat RE2 six weeks ago. Check the RE2 remake thread.

Played Mario Bros. 3 many times.

Didn't finish Symphony of the Night. Got pretty far. Got stuck. 2013.

Didn't finish Half-Life. Not interested in first-person view anymore. Almost no exceptions. I explained the problems, but you guys just don't listen.
