You should probably watch Tim's video channel of which he hated running Troika (and all the bullshit it entailed as a studio) and is now much more enjoying his time making games.
Hey, I want them to work for the 'dex, know what I'm sayin'?

Would it be possible to resurrect Troika with a Kickstarter?
The trio are almost 60 now and managing Troika almost killed Boyarsky. I doubt they want to get back to that.
What they can do is work togheter on an Arcanum 2 or an Arcanum remaster since both Obsidian and IXile are under Microsoft. I think they have one last game in them before retirement.

I don't now if a remaster is a good idea...
I don't know how well a remaster for Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura would sell, with its absurdly broken combat mode (your adventure goes downhill whenever you change mode, unless you're seeking chaos, and having a laugh at how bad real time mode is). I imagine people would furiously demand refunds after rage-quitting due to bugs, or the afore-mentioned game mode.
There's community fixes for Arcanum, but how many new players would realize such an option is available to them, before giving up and asking their money back?

When i said remaster i meant also fixing the game's problems and not just a cosmetic overhaul.

You can’t rely on corpos to make games like Troika’s. Only indie devs have the creative freedom necessary to accomplish that.

I’ve written a few pitches myself that I would love to turn into games. Colorful characters, camp, ham… I love that stuff.

So you mean a remake?

It's threads like these that make me realize people don't understand the passage of time and eras.

Troika isn't coming back. The things you loved aren't coming back. You're never going to have the same experiences you one did again. You're getting older. There won't be a Thief 5 nor will JC Denton get a new game. Lord British isn't making another Ultima. Bloodlines 2 won't be good

She's not going to call you some day and want you back.

Learn to adapt and enjoy new things. Stop resisting it. You've sucked dry this hobby and there's nothing left. Go learn how to fix cars and snowboard and lift weights and make money before you waste more of what little time you have left waiting for miracles.

If you merged together the three flawed games Troika made you would get a good game.
Kinda like if you merged all your posts you would get a shred of intellect?

But to the OP's question: you're grasping at straws. Even if you get all the employees back together and give them a fiancially solid plan, they're not the same people anymore.

Tim Cain alone would constantly remind you that he's gay and Brian Mitsoda would run the company into the ground by hiring Reddit-level lead writers.

Be grateful that it happened at all.

Troika is dead. Even if you were somehow able to get the entire team back together it won't be the same.

A lot of posts itt are funny in a very ironic kind of way. If you had to choose a now-defunct "cult" dev company with some (semi)known has-beens to ressurect with a hope that it will result in a game that's in at least some ways noticeably better then what they did in the past, troika would be as smart of a bet as you could make.

I think WRF Studios made some pretty fun games. His Bloodlust trilogy has decent enough mechanics and graphics. It would be amazing if he opened up the code and assets to modding. All they’re missing is the colorful characters and general campiness that Troika had.

Well said. I've done three out of those four already.

We actually have a pretty good example of what happens when you resurrect a legendary developer and Kickstart a sequel to one of their classic games: you get Othersyde Entertainment and they make Underworld Ascendant.

No. The lightning is gone from the bottle. Replay the games, and look for any new gems from new developers. They still come out from time to time.

Very well put.

I'd also add that creative people also age and rarely, if ever passion, creativity and risk taking increases with age. Look at basically any creative work, be it literature, film, video games what ever, the people who made the greatest works usually made them in their youth-early adulthood, maybe in their 30s at the latest. 70-year-old William Gibson isn't going to change the world with another Neuromancer, 80-year-old Martin Scorsece isn't making another Goodfellas with the same set of balls or Ridley Scott another Blade Runner. With age, you get more and more set in your ways and will lack fire and taking risks, hell your brain literally starts to deteriorate and men will lose testosterone. And that's fine, that's life and you just adapt to that. Nothing and I mean NOTHING is going to wow you the same way as an adult that you experienced as a child or youth if we talk about movies or games etc. entertainment and not actually meaningful things like having a child for example.

You contradicted yourself here.

Ridley was ~42 when he directed Alien. Scorsese was ~48 when he directed Goodfellas. Gibson was ~36 when he wrote Neuromancer.

They produced their Magnum Opus in middle age (depending on your definition), not in youth. The young are stupid and impulsive. At middle age you’re still energetic but are tempered by life experience.
