Apparently (haven't played yet, waiting for the next time Gothic and Gothic 2 go on sale via GoG to play THEM before Risen) your character couldn't swim in Risen. Hope they fix it, GTA:VC was awful because your PC was in Not-Miami and couldn't swim.

Swimming is not possible but to be honest it makes no difference, the only place with enough water to swim is the sea and there's nothing to do there (other than being quickly devoured by some giant worm-thing). Why swim when you can levitate, anyway? ;)

Agreed. I can't see not being able to swim as a bad thing since there are no inland waters.

gram.pl, a potato gaming website (pretty big one, too, so it's probably no bullshit) apparently already got the details from the nazi preview.

List of some facts for now:

- Risen 2 is 80% finished right now.

- Same nameless hero from Risen.

- The protagonist now lives in some small harbour town called Caldera

- The gameworld is composed of a few islands

- More complex storyline, heavier and multiple consequences for choices.

- Some old bros will appear, like Carlos or Gregorius Steelbeard.

- Risen 2 feels more like a pirate tale

- Ability to travel between islands onboard a ship (unknown whether it will be the player's possession, though)

- The sea is filled with creatures that ambush passing ships

- Quick travel between islands

- Each island will feature a different climate, creatures and types of locations.

- Firearms are in.

- So is magic.

- Same character tree as in Risen [which does seem iffy if they're adding guns, methinks]

- It will be more realistic than Risen. 'Each found chest will have a story to it'

- Bigger world than in the prequel

- More complex side quests

- Motion capture animation

- more realistic and detailed character models

- Bump mapping, real time cloud animation (as opposed to Risen's skybox)

- No invisible walls or loading times (other than when changing islands)

- Each NPC will have daily routines. NPCs will converse with each other.

- Different creatures will appear at night time.

- Will come out for PC, sexbox and PS3. To be released this year.

Some more leaked info on a potato risen fansite (wonder how much of the 'leaked info' is legit, though):

- PB will try to avoid the pirate cliches - pirates are bandits of the sea, not gentlemen with parrots-on-shoulders.

- The protagonist has 'seen things' and become a drunkard bum.

- Seriously revamped combat and magic [which might mean many things...]. Firearms are governed by a separate skill

- In certain areas, the player will be able to use cannons [ :yeah: ]

- Risen 1 was throwing the player into action from the get-go. Risen 2, however, will use some hand-holding at the very beginning, and then open up a huge world before the player [not sure if decline...]

- Quest helpers will appear, but there will probably be an option to turn them off ['probably'...]

- Quests are supposed to be more logical and plausible. PB will avoid FedEx quests that require you to run through half the continent.

- Eavesdropping will be important. While listening around to conversations, you might discover whereabouts of hidden treasures, etc. People who don't use all their senses might miss out on side quests or ways to resolve them.

So I guess that's him with the longer hair and eyepatch? What a shame.

Did they play their own game? Escorting Sara was a linear tutorial. Though I guess this means there won't be a sword and shield a few paces off the path or an optional tunnel full of slightly-difficult-for-the-area gnomes. I understand even that was too much to deal with for quite a few.

I suspect this point was to mean that you start in a town or something, instead of deep wilderness.

Yeah, but the setting would imply there is actually stuff in the water and possibly in-land water (hence why the lack of swiming isn't as annoying in GTA3 as Vice City. Vice city had boats and collectible stuff in the water, plus plenty of rivers and canals around, Liberty city used it to segregate the islands and nothing else)

Give me this, AoD, a decent Twitcher 2 and KotC 2 and it truly will be the year of the RPG after all.

Although I am quite excited as well, I can't shake off the feeling that all these games are going to end up sucking and next year we'll all be even more jaded than we already are.

Being a true RPG fan (TM) has made me into even more of a cynic than I already was.

DA2's ruleset = Fucking awful. Most of the Codex can agree to this.

Risen's combat system is DA2 with more action/real time and less complexity (yes, the rule system is really THAT simple).

Why the Codex is up in arms about this one I will never fathom :?

The protagonist has 'seen things' and become a drunkard bum.

That's how you should do "it's a sequel, durr, you'll have to develop your skills again" cliche. :incline:

Quest helpers will appear, but there will probably be an option to turn them off ['probably'...]

WHOA! :decline: All the fapping was premature (duh), it seems.

Thanks Darth Roxor, vast majority of those things sound great. And it's being released this year, whee!

Wonder when they'll ship it to stores though, what with DAs and Diablos and whatnot, they'll really have to pick a good time so they're not lost in a sea of overhyped stuff and actually make a good sales number.

And release this year?

Would fit right into the Pirates of the Caribbean 4 hype. If the game is good, good marketing and no other "AAA" Rpg comes in the way of the US release this could generate big bucks...

I want it. I need it. :D

As for the hatters:
1) Tropical island. The first game was on a TROPICAL island !?
2) Quest helpers. Are you so stupid to think that PB will force this on the players? Note: They didn't do it for 4 games.
3) Combat. Risen combat is not DA/DA2/DA^n combat system. Play the fucking game and at least complain about real problems.
4) Exploration. If you are unable to enjoy it, it doesn't mean others cannot enjoy it.
5) Swim. This is bummer. Except it wasn't really needed in the first game. And they didn't say that is not in the second game. False alarm !?

3) I did, and I said rules system. DA2 we call simplified for having about 15+ abilities for each of three classes. Risen has one class (with three different sub-classes) with less than that, and half of what it has is weapon skills. As for the combat system, it amounts to real-time tactical clicking/moving. There is no further depth than that.
