Kai Rosenkranz was the original sound composer for both Gothic and Risen. However he left Piranha Bytes during 2010 and then he co-founded a new company called Nevigo.
This is their main product:
But did they percieve Risen 2 as a mistake? Will they return to a more gothic-like approach? Why do I have hope again. Stop it, toro. This will hurt again.
As compared to what? And don't say Planescape. This needs to be hammered into your brains people:
RISEN WAS MEDIOCRE AT BEST.
As compared to the game it was supposed to be spiritual successor of. As compared to good games in general due to the actual lack of content, terrible writing and extraordinarily ordinary combat mechanics ripped straight from a 10 year old game when way better implementation involving more involved and reactive combat like Dark Messiah is available. As compared to what? Risen was the best RPG this console generation, and I'm having a hard time thinking of many PC RPGs from the past five years that beat it.
The truth is, I'm fishing for good RPG recommendations, so...
Face it bro, it's way worse than Oblivion. I didn't believe it's possible, but Risen 2 is a quintessence of shit, bad shit design, shit gameplay, shit core, shit everything, beginning with the first line of a code, ending with the last one. It's a rock bottom of a shit-hole.
There's absolutely no, not even a single one, positive thing in this fucking abomination. Even mods won't salvage this infested with leprosy corpse.
If someone wants to build anything basing on this, the process must begin with shooting it dead and burying it in the woods. Then starting a completely new project.
Technically, it's not nostalgia if you replay them regularly, keeping the experience fresh. Distant memories are idealized, fresh ones usually aren't.

As I said, very mixed reviews.
Anyway, I'd be just fine with Risen 3. Let's be honest, there's not much of a 'deep setting' or 'great characters' for either franchise so it doesn't matter at all whether it's called Gothic 4 or Risen 3. What matter is that they get themselves back to form and make the great stuff we know only they can make. I don't know how well Risen 2 sold, I suspect more than R1, though maybe not enough to justify R3 being exactly the same... investors look at metacritic too.
As I said, very mixed reviews.
Mixed? Those are horrible scores from mainstream outlets. Translate to about a 2/10.

You can't do the "well, they must be grading it higher because they're bought and sold for" compensation when they're not actually bought and paid for. If this had been a Bioware release, it would have been 8/10s.
Risen 1 is a mediocre, but solid game.As compared to what? And don't say Planescape.
