But EB2 won't have unit regeneration :(
I like unit regeneration. (Though one could do A LOT more with balancing of province/general/other effects...)

I'll echo Brinko's analysis. I've been trying really hard to like this game, trying out a variety of mods etc., but it's still not worth paying full price.

If you're a fan of the series and you can find it on sale within a few months you might want to grab it and hope the DeI modders fix the godawful balancing for their 1.0 release. If you're in it for the historical feeling you're still better off playing EB. Or waiting for EB2 in a week or two.
Is this for real? :bounce:

The EB2 team promised a stable beta release before the end of August. The 22nd is their target date, but not set in stone.

I loved EB1. But I played it months if not years after release and still I had an unavoidable crash after 60-80 turns (don't remember the exact number), which ultimately made the mod unplayable for me. Didn't want to try a new game only to run into another unavoidable crash that prevents progress.
So even if they release EB2 soon, I wouldn't expect it to be "playable"... (But let us know anyway, will ya ;) )

I need someone to crucify developers pets and put the individual crosses right in front of their windows....

I started playing Rome 2 yesterday and begun with making my own battles to test how will the AI behave. Chose the hardest difficulty and picked crossing the bridge battle. The enemy troops at the other side of the river initiated... I don't know how to even describe. Begun constantly moving in opposite directions and behaving more like ants then people. Constantly going back and forth. I felt that my Romans will be fighting Buggers from Ender's Game not Spartans. But ok, I decided to turn my units into a battering ram and smash through them. Halfway across the bridge one Spartan squad decided to attack my whole army, left the ant-mass and charged the bridge. I was a little confused, but I was more confused when I noticed it's their general. Without any support their general attacked 4k Romans and got wiped out in a matter of seconds. Then I knew they weren't Buggers. Buggers would protect their queen. What was I dealing with here, was a bunch of retarded cockroaches. At the least the AI is using their archers properly, right? Nope. The moment the battering ram of Romans hit the constantly shifting sea of shit-roaches the archers just stopped shooting and charged the pile to join melee. The worst part about it is that even in combat some units just didn't stop moving back and forth. Instead of encircling the Romans at the bridge exit they attacked, broke off, attacked broke off etc. Thanks to that their morale was wavering and I managed to rout several of their units. Especially that archers were fighting me in the pile and when they were running away (which was pretty easy to do) it also took a chunk out of morale of other units. In short this battle should've been massacre of the Roman troops, but because of stupid Roach AI, I manage to break enough troops to push through and eventually win.

And I spent 15 eurobucks on this..... :negative:

For the second battle I took the city defense and again picked the hardest difficulty. I won't describe the entire encounter, but to summarize it. The AI didn't attempt to defend the breached wall. I think it had a sense of fair play so it let half of my army into the city before attacking me in the open. And later when it was loosing instead of moving back to make a choke point near the plaza to deny me the city and wait through the time limit, it decided that it will be a good idea to leave the city and attack second half of the Roman army, leaving only one squad to protect the plaza. Guess what singular squad was defending the plaza? Just guess. Of course it was their general, who got smashed with overwhelming numbers. Not to mention the archers who again went into melee before depleting their ammo.

:negative::negative::negative:

Everything is shit.

Working well so far, few turns, few battles. So in that sense, yeah.....
