Star Ocean The Second Story R
Hero's Adventure: Road to Passion
Jagged Alliance 3
Underrail: Heavy Duty
Rance IX - The Helmanian Revolution
Fallout: Sonora Dayglow
Caves of Lore
Colony Ship: A Post-Earth Role Playing Game
Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader
And this is list by real average. Alas some of these games got less votes than 30, thus there might be fluctuations caused by too few voters.
Star Ocean is a remake of a decent old game. It shows that one of best games on PCX with interesting gaming systems can do well. Even if story is so-so, it shows way forward and allows player proceed mostly at his lesure. It has also nice characters that are not gay or too edgy (or you can keep edgy ones out of party).
PC version is corrupted by Denuvo, but technically skilled people can find workaround to ensure they could have backup for eternity.
Hero's Adventure is actually very nice Wuxia novel inspired game. Frankly these games should be made because of passion, create something crazy complex, and because they would be made by fans not for profit, theirs gameplay would take at least 300 hours from start to finish, and learning game system would take 50 hours.
Alas there are not enough skilled fans that can survive from secondary job, and Chinese government isn't willing to pay for TOTALLY AWESOME Wuxia open world simulation/RPG game.
Imagine each year new free awesome Wuxia game. It would be like new football manager, just with dragons and real story.
JA3 had these two flaws at release 1. I got JA2 for free as part of bundle. 2. JA2 allowed to buy ammo for cheap and plenty thus I could spray bullets with mercenaries that couldn't hit a door of a barn.
JA3 also didn't feel like party are real hired special forces that are trying to win war for rebels. As if developers didn't have experience with this.
Underrail: Heavy Duty
Rabid fans love it, rabid fans got it to 4th place.
Rance IX
Well it's Rance. Combat is simplistic and it's carried by story and characters. Is it's story sufficiently awesome to carry it to 5th place? Can you be evil villain that overthrow less evil empire? And why are we not overthrowing a republic for once to get a potion of eternal youth to ensure we would see A LOT more Rance sequels?
Personally thinking, it's hard to beat Senkoku Rance with old unofficial fan translation.
Fallout: Sonora Dayglow
Completely missed this one, looks like it's some kind of fan make variant which got new expansion.
There is a massive uproar that only English translation is AI generated.
Caves of Lore
If it was released for free it would be great. As it is, it's still a decent success for one man team to get 7th rank.
Low res graphic sucks however.
Colony Ship: A Post-Earth Role Playing Game
Caves of Lore beat up third game of rather known developers who made Dungeon rats.
Well folks we all knew which parts should be better/finished and about its flaws. It's decent game, but it still has a long road to the top.
Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader
Yea... It was potentially GOTY of 2023 that fell short.
Shitty programming, story might have some potential, but...
Still 9th place is nice.
Baldur's Gate III
Listing what was seriously wrong with BG3, and what they did right would double size of this post.
