- Only PC games. Multi-platform titles like KotOR or Dark Souls are ok, but no 20-years-later ports like Chrono Trigger.

Will Dragon's Dogma be excluded from the poll? Or this restriction will be arbitrary held up again in a way that excludes 90% of jRPGs?
As for Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, it was ported 3 years after his release and not higher than 20, so it counts :smug:

Just wanted to point out that is an arbitrary restriction. 3, 5, or 20 years later they still are console ports not native PC games.

I played GW1 a lot (thousands of hours), what is it if not an MMO?
An online RPG with full party customization. There's nothing massive about it and most of the social elements are not essential to the experience. It's more of an RPG than Diablo II in certain ways, less in others, but if D2 is considered an RPG as per the OP, there's no reason to exclude GW1.

Corrected. JA2 is not an RPG, as the laptop guy has no stats.

Will Dragon's Dogma be excluded from the poll? Or this restriction will be arbitrary held up again in a way that excludes 90% percent of jRPGs?
Whichever one triggers you more.
It does seem fairer to allow JRPG's if they're released on PC.

There were JRPGs on the last poll. I don't have a problem including those if people want to vote for them.

This divide between two list nonsensical. I see several titles that are already voted in different lists. There is no telling which one is "hidden" and which one isn't by any objective criteria. On Codex a game can be well known, elsewhere be a "hidden gem". Some people might vote for a game only as a hidden gem while others only as a "top rpg". This is BULLSHIT. Similar stuff will happen with several games, old and new alike. This is retarded and OP is a Jewish, sorry, Gnomish hack.
I vote 2 times on many titles, except for the very obvious ones like Fallouts.

> Top CRPGs:
Battle Brothers (Only a half-RPG but since Butter allows it, i'm voting it)
Cataclysm DDA (or BN, almost same game)
Darklands
Fallout 1
Fallout 2
Jagged Alliance 2
Knights of the Chalice 1
Knights of the Chalice 2
Underrail
Wizardry 7

> "Hidden" gems:

Knights of the Chalice 1
Knights of the Chalice 2
Nethergate
Quest for Glory 1 (Part 4 could go here instead but I have to choose)
TOME 4
Underrail
Wizardry 7

> Honorable mentions (those can't be "top crpgs" because they are flawed in one way or the other but I considered them):
Arcanum
Age of Decadence
Baldur's Gate 2

Icewind Dale 1
Ultima 5

Imo "Hidden Gems" could be somewhat known, but not enough people seem to have actually played them - written off for one reason or another, but shouldn't have been and/or are great in some ways, but too flawed to be considered for GOAT. I say this because some pretty obscure shit gets discussed here, even if nowhere else, or even if only among like the 2-5 Codexers who actually played the thing.

Honourable mentions:
  • Fuck Disco Elysium, that visual novel sucks.
  • Arcanum (I still need to try and get into it again, but I really want to love it.)

I guess Hidden Gems is a category for games that you know are too obscure to enter the top-100. But still deserve time in a spotlight. So the OP probably will present 2 lists: top rpgs (which as we all know will be opened by Fallout, Torment and Arcanum, later have Baldur's Gate 2, Morrowind and Jagged Alliance 2) and hidden gems list which might actually be fresh and interesting to read.

Basically this. My hope is that RPG newbies can refer to the Top RPGs list and find a great game they've never played, and that RPG veterans can get a similar experience from the Hidden Gems list. It might be a recent indie that got buried by the hundreds of other indies, or an obscure Amiga-only game from 1986, or a game from 2002 that never got an English translation, or who knows what.

The two lists will be presented together, but clearly separated. Nobody is going to think that we somehow selected A Legionary's Life as the best RPG of all time.
