Well it's better to think that Obsidian is holding him back than facing the fact that he just settled on mediocrity and is going to keep developing shitty action rpgs.

Have a hard time believing he'd have no say in Obsidian's slam-dunk approach to pitching and developing. Doubt he loathes the profits of mediocrity.

Felt nwn2/AP/dead money were mediocre but PST, KOTOR2 and MOTB(Zeits, yes) were inspiring so as long as he feeds me another story where I'm the cursed one, where my companions are a mouthpiece to complain about a setting's central themes and where my character poses a threat to the fabric of the gameworld I'll be a happy camper.

No way! External circumstances are always to blame. Just like Ron Gilbert making shitty iphone games. Just like Warren Spector making shitty console platformers. Just like Tim Schafer making shitty consoles games starring Jack Black. Just like Peter Molyneux making shitty everything!

In fairness, Spector, to my knowledge, has only made one AAA title since the Deus Ex days, being that Mickey Mouse game. And the NY Times review of that basically said that it was essentially what you would expect from hiring a guy who made his name in intelligent adult-focused first-person fps-rpgs, in order to make a kids' platformer. I.e. lots of potentially interesting design ideas that end up neutered to keep things kid-friendly, and platform mechanics that fall apart because the guy doesn't actually know the basics of the genre, resulting in goddawful controls, shitty camera etc.

With Spector it seems less a case of 'choosing shitty console platformers', and more a case of 'choosing to live on his royalties, snorting crack off hookers' stomachs while crapping out a platformer or mobile phone game once every 5 years when he decides he wants a new sportscar'.

So there is magic in the setting but its more like super advanced technology and not really magic? Really? Well, it is different but also... why even give magic if it can not be used?

Unless there are some kinds of rituals or other stuff for using magic by the player.

I'd rather there not be any magic at all. Why can't we just have a historical RPG without all the magical stuff? Have praying and preparing potions and such as a kind of psychological aid as it has been historically (often with real tangible benefits). There's no need to have fireballs and contrived contraptions when reality has enough of it's own 'magic' to place in game.

Moreover the idea of the "Magic" is ever very hard to manage, especially in a world based on historical/realistic setting. It's so easy to make mistakes and create an unrealistic unbalancement in the game world...

@commie, Tormented Seph - AoD doesn't take place on Earth. There was a huge magical apocalypse that happened in the past of this world and that makes it interesting. Teudogar and the Alliance with Rome has the type of system/setting you want, and there's even a forum for it right here in the Codex. Go play it.

I really disliked that review because it feeds into the myth that Spector single-handedly designs and programs his games as opposed to just setting the creative direction and putting the team together and making sure they work well (you know, all the people who are supposed to have experience in the basics of the genre). A professional reviewer shouldn't be so ignorant, especially one who works for an actual paper.

Gothic Fantasy?
Shit Fantasy?
Fuck Fantasy?
Random Fantasy?
Potato Fantasy?

(WTF this seems to be a discussion on "Metal Music"! )

or

Steam-punk?
Sci-fi?
Cyberpunk?

Explain it better, please...

So where would I be able to buy the collector's edition from? Amazon, or from the AoD site?
From us.

If the game is only 1/10th of what it promises to be I'll still buy it, making it the first indie title I've ever owned.
What the fuck does it promise that you only hope for 1/10th?

Even I don't know if the game is going to be good.

So caesar's legion won and power armor is seen as magical.

Not exactly. Also, what's magic in your understanding?

Really? Well, it is different but also... why even give magic if it can not be used?
Give magic to whom?

Unless there are some kinds of rituals or other stuff for using magic by the player.
Yes and no.

Obsidian (and thus Chris) is a subcontractor, aka a piper, and as we all know, he who pays the piper calls the tune. Pitching? Remember Troika's unsuccessful attempts to pitch their post-apoc game to a publisher?

Doubt he loathes the profits of mediocrity.
What profits?
