I'm a bit of a sucker for jump scares, tbh. It's not so much the level itself that I find scary, it's more the anticipation of the next inevitable jump scare that gets me.

The game is really good though. I've played it several times before and never finished it, so I'm hoping to finish it this time around. I'm playing Ventrue this time around and it seems to be a bit on the easy side, though. Up to the hotel level the only thing I've had to fight so far is a dog. The rest of the encounters I just use Persuade.

Have you played Amnesia The Dark Descent? If you haven't you should definitely check it out. Pretty good horror game.

Amnesia doesn't really have a lot of jumpscares though. Dead Space and Doom 3 are probably the best "monster out of cupboard" games. Except with ventillation shafts instead of cupboards.

Amnesia has plenty of jump scares, they're just sort of subtle jump scares, which sounds paradoxical when I write it, but I don't know how else to describe it.

Behold!

ghouls... pfff!.

I remember playing this game in 2012 for the first time. The first battle against some of the street thugs were harder than any 2008-20xx rpgs. I remember saying "this game is to much for me".
Still this screen was more rewarding than those flashing cutscenes from AAA rpgs.

Kobolds gonna get nasty today.

But instead of cleaning the sewers from Kobold dumps I'm saving this goddamn woman. I could just fuck the maiden and her mom, but no, I chose the light fucking side, and while I must feel good for doing good things, my balls are full and that hurts.

Nope. But if Harlan Ellison wrote Descent to Undermountain, that would be cool.
Videogames need more of him.
