Insurgency? What separates that game from other FPS shootahs? I saw it being handed out like candy on Humblebundle.

You die in one shot basically (smaller calibres may take a few more shots). There is no minimap, you dont know where enemies are. There is no silly "level up to unlock more weapons" system, you have points assigned on start of round where you buy your stuff (similar to Counter Strike). Weapons have big recoil, feel and sound real. Tactical gameplay is highly suggested, you cant rambo anything in this game. Flanking the enemy with your squad is much more important, smoke grenades etc. have an actual use. First game where I felt that night maps are actually night maps (you cant see shit in the dark, can sneak around lightsources etc). Sound design is top notch, if you get shot at, you absolutely want to go into cover, both as the character ingame and the actualy player ingame. :) I find it really good, just try it out.

It also has a co-op mode against the AI which is absolutely brutal. They will flank and rush your ass if you are not cautious.

Damn, sounds pretty nice. Rising Storm is my favorite FPS of this generation and this sounds like a modern spin on it. I'll have to give the Humblerbumblers a $1.

I love Red Orchestra as well and you can compare both games pretty well. You'll enjoy it I am sure :)

Even have that sexy Mosin or MP-40 for the Insurgent Faction ;)

What an awesome game. I love the combat! I'm not a fan of animu but somehow I can bear all the kawainess. It has a certain cartoony charm. And the music is really EPIK.
It has a very important message and it's a very serious game. Games are a valid medium, like books. Valkyria Chronicles has taught me that:
-war is bad
-war can also be really fun (especially if it's turn based)
-you get to meet(and I hope fuck) a lot of cute girls

I'd actually disagree here: Insurgency plays a lot faster than RO. I won't disagree with the recommendation, though, as Insurgency's an example of what I'd consider the perfect compromise between simulation and playability. And two points you forgot to mention: Flashbangs have the best implementation I've seen in an FPS and the gameplay modes throw a nice twist on the standard formula. Firefight, for instance, revolves around two teams fighting over three cap points, and it's only when your team captures a point that your dead teammates respawn. You lose when your team's either been eliminated or your opponent holds all points uncontested.

Been really enjoying the game, but damn am I rusty after having not played an FPS seriously for a couple of years.

It's reaaaally great so far

What game is that? It looks fun.

Pretty sure it is Lords of Xulima.

That's right r3jonwah85, these screenshots are from Tronyn's "In a forest of flesh".

Thanks, will try that jam out when I got some time left then! And in case you have not already seen it, here is a video of one of the map creators (Daz) playing through all maps and commenting, I think his channel is great for studying level design.

EDIT: youtube seems broken, but the link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApXxC8O0sJw.

r3jonwah85 yeah Custom Gamer is good. If only he created more Quake videos and used r_particles 2 instead of those awful popamole round particles :obviously: BTW those last Quake screenshots are from another good map that was just released called The Hell That's Coming. Also check out our Quake map thread if you haven't already.

Will check the thread out, nice to get a heads up on more great maps. Just played through The Hell That's Coming, thanks for the recommendation!
