  2. Sounds like good news to me. Now I'm riding the hype train, man. I hope it will be done and won't end up being abandoned like the previous translation project. :bounce:
Gotta see how PC-98 version works on my tablet, since MSX and MCD versions worked pretty nicely. Though my experience with PC-98 emulators for Android is rather bad, since The Screamer was close to unplayable there.

    Vietnam '65.

    Randomized map. Veteran difficulty.

Objective seems obvious on this one: control the road. And fast.

I have secured the road here. Artillery is at the firebase (dead center), while a FOB sits just west of it as a fulcrum of violence activity. (Lots of NVA at the crossroads.)

Here we see that the Communists have spread into the rural parts of the country. The Northwest area has Charlie streaming through the jungles. This keeps my supply chains interrupted. The Southeast has been a trouble since the start. Communist activity was detected very quickly there, but so far I have yet to root it out. Somewhere in one of these spots I'm 100% the Ho Chi Minh trail runs free, loads of 5'5" pissed off Asians jogging dutifully toward my lines. Bastards. Otherwise, I'm kicking the NVA's teeth in, slowly working west through the map with tanks, attack helicopters, and chinooks.

A little KSP Space Plane action

    Show Spoiler

I've been taking a break from KSP for awhile, but over the last couple of months, there's been some mods that have been released that show a lot of space plane love. Nertea's Mark IV spaceplane set and the OPT Large Spaceplane Parts mods are most notable, but a really nice accessory to those is a big fuck you to Procedural Wings done by Bac9 of B9 Aerospace. Basically, he made his own, and went all out. Different leading/trailing edge shapes and sizes, switchable textures, dyeing, etc.

So I decided to whip up a little something for a sandbox game I'm playing. Right now, I've got a couple of outposts orbiting Kerbin and the Mun. I hauled up a habitat package and hub to the Kerbin one and figured I'd do the same for the one around the Mun.
I based this, in part, on the Boeing 787, at least the wing shapes. I couldn't come up with a witty name, so REMLiner it is. (REM sleep? Get it? Eh? .... oh, piss off...) I should mention that 1) I run a shit-ton of mods, and 2) I use engines with hacked ISPs, so I get ridiculous fuel economy.

Here we are in the hangar, ready to taxi to the runway. I've got a long cargo bay filled practically full (shot of the payload further down), but the weight still isn't enough to counter the fuel tank and engine cluster. Having the wings so far back makes it look weird, but eh... Ferram Aerospace says it'll work.

Ready for take-off. The spoilers on the wings are tied to the brakes. I've also got flaps in the inboard trailing edge, tied to action groups as seen. They come in handy, along with the handful of air brakes I have on the empennage, for re-entry.

Graceful liftoff about 3/4ths of the way down the runway.

Ascending and gaining speed. The contrails make it look like I'm going down, but I'm pushing about Mach 2.5 and with the velocity vector sitting right on 15 degrees up.

Like a flaming dick with wings... BTW, the engines are a B9 Sabre M (unmodified) in the middle surrounded by 4 high efficiency rocket engines from OPT, made even more efficient with my ISP cfg hacks.

Orbital insertion completed just in time for sunrise. Cargo bay doors opened to (LARP ALERT!) radiate heat built up during ascent.

Precious cargo. 2 habitat modules and a 5 way hub assembly, plus RCS tank, battery, TAC life support container (procedural), and solar panels. It's autonomous, with a probe core at the top, and will maneuver to dock with the outpost once released from the shuttle. It's secured with a docking port and quantum struts lining either side of the cargo bay.

Munar transfer and orbital insertion burns, respectively.

Precious cargo released, maneuvering towards the outpost (not pictured. Don't know why I forgot to get a shot of the outpost prior to docking)

Once the module is docked and powered up, the shuttle docks via the dorsal docking node, while both crews share a beer.

Might post the return trip and landing in a few days.

  16. Aside from Deus Ex, it's replay Torment time. It almost feels fresh again; the music, visuals and dialogue are still top notch. The last time I played this, I don't think some of these mods were even out. May have been pre-widescreen days. Thank you ghostdog for the majestic UI mod. I found that 1600x900 is the sweet spot on a 1920x1080 monitor to avoid the flickering fog. Looks great scaled to full screen. 80% fonts are nice too and can be comfortably read even from a distance.

Too bad that Crapcom still fails at identifying bad aspects of the gameplay. I mean who needs this:

Characters models are great too, and you can switch them at whim when using wilsono's trainer:

And people claim RE5 < RE4? It's superior in every aspect so far (graphics, gameplay, controls, story, QTEs, niggershooting).

The war continues. As you can tell by looking at the map below, Communists are running the countryside while along the civilized roads good little Vietnamese boys drink Coca-Cola.

Running hueys over the jungles is now a dangerous gambit for many an RPG lie in wait. I've had guys walking around that Southeastern patch of godforsaken jungle since the start but have been wholly unable to root the commies out of there.

Presumably with the collapse of NVA forces against my might, Communists have also claimed a few of the last towns along the road.

Fast-forward a few turns and political support for the war is plummeting. NVA bases are springing up everywhere and VC cadres are proliferating like a two-dolla-no-holla rash. Out of frustration, I swarm the Southeast with a tank and more infantry, destroying everything in sight.

A major clash unfolds west of Firebase Alpha and FOB1. Attack helicopters, tanks, and artillery smash up the battlelines. With political capital draining, I got Special Forces training South Vietnamese men to do the grunt work for me.

I root the commies out of the southeast only for NVA sympathies to creep back in. There's just no learnin' these folks.

The Western Battle is over ending in a victory, but it is a Pyrrhic one. Communists latch onto that northwestern city which clues me into that the Ho Chi Minh trail must be up there. And it is. Sonuvabitch.

In the Southwest, I make a dire push to capture the town and deliver Coca-Cola and blonde ladies with nice gams to the townsfolk, but they aren't having it. An enemy military base survives numerous air attacks, leaving me on the shit end of a dipstick. Gatdammit.

The end of the war. American Capitalism loses. Even though I control much of the land and have essentially locked out the commies, they had an unexpected ally: a fifth column of smelly hippies in the good ol' US of A.

No longer do 18-year olds want to do their country right by dying beneath a jungle leaf and buried by a jungle rain. No, they'd rather bitch about not being able to vote for or against a war or some such malarkey.

We have lost, but I have good news. While taking the last helicopter out of Vietnam, I spotted at least half the crowd sipping on Coca-Cola. It brought a tear to my eye. It wasn't all for naught.

Action shot for the graphics whores, I title this one: O' Platoon, My Platoon.
