I love how that female model looks like a lifeless mannequin. Is that what Anita is complaining about?

I'd almost forgotten about this. Anyone else find this exchange hilarious? Love the outrage in his voice before he loses it. This game has the best guards ever.

Anyone ever play the Baldur's Gate prototype for PS1? It's as awful and clunky as you can imagine.

Now play Primal Hunt and experience true pain. It's mind-numbing how that expansion was so bad, for a otherwise nice base game. Daikatana levels of bad.

How's the Codex Consensus on AvP 2010, by the way? It's 4 or so bucks on Steam, and I miss a bit a good scifi shooter.

Just don't bother with the expansion pack...

*Edit:

It's wonderful to see that every player of Primal Hunt still has PTSD.

AVP 2010 is "good for what it is". The single player campaign isn't anything spectacular, but has some nice vistas and doesn't take too long to finish. If the 4 bucks deal includes multiplayer maps than take it, you'll probably find someone to play on Steam.

As for the Primal Hunt, I have to play, my completionist sense is tingling. After finishing Contract Jack my body is ready for anything. Sometimes I wonder how such a good company could release a shitty game like that.

Hordes of aliens insta-respawning infinitely right in front of you the moment you killed the previous wave were enough to break everyone...

Let's up the ante.

- Predalien campaign is a sin against Man and Beast alike: it's not a campaign, it's a demo and a shitty rehash of concepts found in the original. Short and incredibly badly designed. The gimmick is
It has three missions: Facehugger, Chest burster and Predalien. But the entire campaign is only THREE MISSIONS LONG, so you have two badly designed sneak missions - INCREDIBLY badly designed- and a average Alien mission. Then it's over. UUUUUuuuunngh.
- Corporate Campaign: Gratuitous nudity at the beginning. WITH THE FUCKIN' LITHTECH ENGINE. MY EEEEYEEEESSS. Horrible maps. Retarded spawns. The dubbing in my language was worthy of the worst Filipino porn movie, but that's not a fault of the programmers.
- Predator Campaign: spekkio is right, the endless spawn (with some spawn points so badly placed I remember them after years.) were terrible. Yet, it's the best one: it's like playing the retarded cousin of Serious Sam. At least they gave you the Flechette cannon or whatever it was called.

I cannot understand how a team that produced a adequate game (KISS Psychocircus) made such a thing. Pretty much all the assets are salvaged from the MP of the original, as far as I remember. What the heck.

Thanks! I'm mostly interested in the SP, sadly. But I can guarantee that Contract Jack is almost good if compared with Primal Hunt.

WTF?!?!?! IS that for real? A very early prototype if it is.
IIRC it was almost done before cancellation, and available version is beatable, as far as I know.
Still, it has a fair share of issues. Such as garbage dialogue from time to time, a handful of bugs here and there, plus overall clunkiness.
Also (if I remember right) the saves were huge for a PS1 game.

A single player Kingpin campaign?! Never thought those existed! Is it good? Does the AI say anything except "Fuck you!!!!", "FUCKER!!!" and "Fuck you, you fuck!!!!"?

Pretty sure it's the only one of this size, and it's quite long. It's good yeah, but very difficult (on a first playthrough at least, so don't worry about playing it on Novice) and heavy on puzzles and exploration with some scripted events that activate once you do something specific, sometimes something rather obscure too. Until your reach chapter 4 most fighting will result in your painful death. The game throws you into 'fair' combat where you can properly retaliate when you reach the eponymous factory on chapter 5, and once you get your hands on a shotgun you're good to go. No money and no Pawn-O-Matic either. AI only ever says "FUCKER!!!", "YO EAT LEAD, MAN!!!", etc. The mod has cool cinematics with custom voice acting but VA is rather poor unfortunately. All in all it's definitely recommended, but it's not classic run n' gun n' fucking fuck Kingpin.

Speaking about that - how is that game? I played it more than decade ago but forgot to try again after getting better PC (VooDoo2 without drivers...don't ask).
And I loathe respawning/teleporting enemies.

The load times are terrible too and very frequent. You even have to endure them whenever you try to speak to anyone. I couldn't take more than 10 minutes of its clunkiness. I even have "fast forward" binded to a controller key in Mednafen and it was still too tedious.

Ahh, it has been years. I ran that one with a Nvidia TNT2. So, Psycho Circus... it's a stock Lithtech FPS of its era. Let me see if I remember right....

- By generation, it's a Quake era game. Even better, thanks to a more recent engine, it has almost a "Doom-like" number of enemies, so think of a somewhat gothic version of Serious Sam. Story is here, mostly done through cutscenes, but the action is continuous. Four campaigns, and some interesting gimmicks with weapons (there was a whip? yes, there was a whip employed for jumping puzzles).
- Weaponry and level design reminded me of Unreal. Must have been the huge Flak Cannon lookalike.
- Sound design is good. Interestingly enough, not many KISS songs, bar in some areas where you activated them in jukeboxes. Alas, KISS songs are not a good soundtrack for a shooter
- If you don't like random respawns and teleporting enemies, it's a nay then. Lot of random spawning, to keep the enemy numbers up.
- Game is quite long, as far as I remember. Gets even a bit difficult, or maybe I was too much of a scrub back then.

If I should describe that one... it's a weird mixture of Quake 1, Unreal, stock Doom-era waves of enemies and the structure of Lithtech games. Solid 7-8/10 for me.

At least it's not Blood 2. Why the heck today I am remembering all the horrible shooters I have played.... what's next...

Try Ubik. Try the PC version to see how clunky and buggy this game is. Then try the PS1 version and see if you can beat it without the urge to kill somebody.
It takes about 5-10 seconds to load a single voiceover, and combat is a fucking clunkfest.

At least it's not Blood 2.
Eh, at least Blood 2 had solid soundtrack, which was the reason to fire up the game again and again.
I wish there were more tracks, though.

Perfect description. I had much fun with it. And indded it feels like proto-Serious Sam with tighter level design. Wacky monsters were cool.

Remixes are worth listening too.

And it looks like Frederik Schreiber from Interceptor is making a move.

Well, remixes are mostly recreated tracks using the ingame samples. They are alright too.
I'd fucking love to see another game with Shogo/Blood 2 music style, since I can't recreate it even remotely.

Also, Frederik is a bro. I remember I was a lurker at rome.ro forums, where he was searching for people to help him with Daikatana remake. Never expected that he would end up running his own studio.

And before I forget... screenshot dump!
