Screw this area!

Got to say, after playing Dark Souls, the sequel feels a bit off. It's still a fun game, but I'm not getting that same feeling of dread and purpose. I still have no idea what I'm supposed to do, except that I have to kill some kings? One thing that is incredible fun though, as the game is packed with people compared to the first game is that there is blood stains all over the place. I'm having too much fun watching other players fail and die :)

I felt super nostalgic, so I took a small panorama tour in Age of Conan. Today I visited Barachan Isles - so much memories :negative:

Graphics are pretty potato - I just added basic ReShade, I think I'll have to get back to my SweetFX setup. A while back they changed something to the distance fog effect and stuff doesn't fade away softly anymore - instead you see sharp stuff far on the horizon - bleh!

More Combat Mission Fortress Italy, this time British para company ambushing German mech-infantry in a hillside town.

This game still manages to surprise me- I had always thought ricochets were just inconsequential flavor animations, but it looks like each bullet is actually tracked through its whole flight. The red text on the SP-gun indicates that a bullet has made it into the crew compartment. The halftrack is destroyed a second later by a PIAT. Great game!

How do you get it to run so well? It runs like crap for me, even on a modern computer.

That ambush look really cool.

Alienman I'm using Nvidia and Intel with jacked up settings, and a lot of mods for effects and textures. I guess the dev team has had some problems especially with AMD processors, their project lead retweeted this just a few days ago:

Maybe try out the CM-Bulge demo when it comes out (hopefully this year), it could be an improvement.

Finally beat it yesterday. Good game, but I'm not sure if it's better than TR 3. On one hand they added a variety of puzzles this time. There aren't as many block moving puzzles so that's a huge plus. On the other hand, while the levels are varied I wish there were some other locations besides Egypt. Plus none of the levels were as good as the best from TR 3 (Temple of Puna and Aldwych). Then there are also some annoying control and interface issues such as you can no longer see how much ammo the drawn weapon currently has (WTF is up with that anyway) and you can no longer free look in certain spots the designers deemed as "cinematic", which is a huge no-no in my book.

Some of the puzzle logic is weird. Tomb Raider is known for its abstract logic in puzzles but TR 4 takes the cake. For instance there are some ceiling trap doors that you can jump to and open but ONLY if you stand beneath them facing a certain direction. Then there's the whole crowbar business. Sometimes you simply use the action button on an object to interact with it with the crowbar and other times you need to use the crowbar from the inventory. Frustrating to say the least. I also encountered a weird bug during the final level. During the cinematic the player sees that the ankh flies into the water, however after the cinematic when I look in the inventory the ankh was still there!. Well that was a bug and I had to go into the water to pick up the "real" ankh and then a door magically swung open. Again, not the first time an illogical puzzle appears in a TR game but this one annoyed me because I wasted so much time in the arena running away from the boss.

Overall I'd say that this is the Tomb Raider game that best encapsulates the Tomb Raider experience, if not necessarily the best TR game as a whole. Playing this game and the 2013 reboot only makes it evident just how much the 3D action genre has devolved over the years.

EDIT: oh and GOG says the play time is actually 30 hours.

Elevator Action Returns. Really good gameplay, reminded me of Flashback while being more action oriented for obvious reasons.
