So how does it compare to Wing Commander, Archimedean Dynasty and (if you've played it) Elite?

Much better than WC 1-2 (3D engine, much more complex - Xwing is a full-blown space-sim compared to WC, which is just a shooter), harder than AD (space = 6-axis and faster movement than in water, you can die within seconds if not careful), haven't played Elite much, but Xwing is pure combat, no merchant / travelling stuff.
Anyway, very good game so far, the only problem is high difficulty and some interface shortcomings (no indicator for targeted enemy's position when he's outside of the HUD).
