What renderer are you using? Maybe I can help you out, Nocturne is a bitch to get to look nice. Or maybe my TV magically made Nocturne look great on my PS2...

It looks a bit better now with 3D9 hardware

I suggest the following settings:

- OpenGL Software Renderer, Shader Configuration: TV Shader Scanline Filter.
- Windows settings: Fit to Windows/Screen, 1024 x 896

I use the OpenGL Hardware Renderer myself, as with the correct settings it looks way better and visually glitchfree. It appears that the game's font is tied to the game's internal resolution as well, as the more I increase it, the sharper the fonts look, but the Scanline filter also helps mask the imperfection that come to surface. Still, with X4 resolution my performance drops sometimes, usually when there's music playing (no idea why).

Same Windows settings, but OpenGL Hardware Renderer instead:

Park your ass outta here.

Yeah, game is garbage but thee setting is interesting.
Honestly, I gave up on the combat like 2 hs in and now I'm cheating: pressing Ctrl + F3 instantly wins fights and is STILL a boring game with massive dull dungeons and far too much combat.
You miss best part later.

And I have no idea how the hell you liked it.

I think it was a lot of the "western JRPG" novelty, but I certainly didn't think it was a bad game. I suspect slow combat with that entire card system would grate on me now.

I began to play Nocturne at the native resolution. This way the uglyness is much better hidden.

I'm also using Shade Boost (54 Brightness, 57 Contrast, 48 Saturation) and no filters. This way it looks closer to my TV.

Some comparison pics (OpenGL Software native resolution, OpenGL Hardware native resolution x2 and x4):

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Bound by Flame. Preety good euro action RPG, very nice memorable soundtrack and monster design. At least combat is less repetitive than Mars: War Logs. But the ending boss fight is terrible, like nobody even thought to play test it first. The main hero reminded me of hiver.
