Shadowrun Shadowrun Returns - Dead Man's Switch Original Campaign

I played for a few hours yesterday. All I can say is, WOW! Great game, feels like 1999 when I am playing. :incline:

There are of course shortcomings (e.g. extremely linear), but overall the presentation and gameplay completely overshadows this. Just imagine what kind of game they could make if the budget was tripled or even quadrupled for the sequel. :D

So it seems there's really no incentive to play a Human? +1 karma point and stats are all 9 across the board. You're better off going with an elf, whose lowest stat is 9.

It's a bit of an odd design decision.

The game is pretty much shallow, limited character creation and customization, limited xcomified combat, linear pathways where you go from one map to another which is just point A to point B.Pretty much non existant side quests (i had one side quests where i had to kill 2 guys, seriously?). Comparing it to the great ones like Fallout or Baldur's Gate it gets 5/10 max. Comparing it to the recent AAA popamole rpgs it gets 10/10
Fixed.
I agree that in it's present contition it's nowhere near the classics, but i have way more fun with it compaired with Bethesda's or Bioware's shovelware, or CDPR action games.

Yeah, but then you would be playing an elf. That's a significant drawback right there.

Humans start with +3 karma, it's a mistake in the chargen description.

Maximum stats—and humans seem to have +3 Karma at the beginning, not +1. Other races get +1 to one or two stats (2-4 Karma worth) and higher/sometimes lower stat maximums. I sincerely doubt there's any particularly compelling reason to push a stat higher than 9, since 1.) diminishing returns, and 2.) even a focused Street Samurai probably won't achieve Body 9/Quickness 9/Shotgun 9/Dodge 9 before the end of the game. There's just not that much Karma to go around. A Troll or Ork melee character could get use out of excess Body/Strength, perhaps.

The human's "+1 Karma" isn't particularly well explained, and is probably an error.

Is there any reason for why the number of spell slots should be reduced?? I had 5, now I have 3 all of the sudden. If this is a bug, it is a very nasty bug.

Just got a dialogue choice with 7 different options. 4 different ways to say yes, 2 to say no and 1 to ask more questions.

How exactly the ley lines or whatever they are work? I took a mage for a first time in a latter mission, but the game don't explain well how i can use them. I mean, she sees the circles, then what?

you stand on them, the circles you see, you can move there and tehn you get the ley line buff. But I didnt get what it does ind etail, I just think "stronger magics" but didnt find any real explanation and Im not versed enough in the pnp to know exactly how it functions there.

I couldn't decide on mage or shaman so I'm going for a mix, which will probably suck. But I kinda wanted a character similar to Hellblazer, no guns, just street smarts and magic.

Does it make any sense to invest in ranged combat primarily and then a bit in a magic school (say, Shaman)? I'd like to focus on pistols but I want some etiquettes as well, which opens up summoning, and because of the insane lack of documentation it's a little hard to guess whether a couple of points in summoning will be completely wasted or actually useful.

Everytime I use print screen in my Steam version of this game, it doesn't take a picture of my game, but instead the desktop behind it. Odd that....

You can work around this by unchecking the fullscreen option, take the print screen and then check it again.

Hee. Shy about your ability to name characters or using your own?

Gee. For an incredibly charismatic and in-tune with traditional gender roles kind of asian looking witch focused on support magick and demon summoning?

Play on words on my own.

Anyway, where the bleep's the option to tell Coyote and Paco NOT TO BLEEPING LEAVE THE COMPLETELY DEFENSELESS SHAMAN SEARCHING FOR THEIR BLOODY JEWELS ALONE?!

I have to somewhat agree with HHR; it's a nice game as for $20, but it's far below the expected incline. So much for ppl saying, "I'll be enjoying SDR while popamole retards will be playing their CDPR crap". CP2077 is going to beat the shit out ot this.

Eh, by the time CP2077 comes out who knows what fan missions and DLC this game will have.

I'll ask here as well:

The documentation of this game really is piss-poor.

With first person popamole emotionally engaging action? Somehow I doubt it.

Why do i get the feeling that there is this huge pink elephant in the room and codexers are too afraid to point it out because they don't want to go against the hivemind?

This plays like an android/ipad game that was ported to pc. It even feels like I would be better off using one of those touchscreen monitors.

Granted the game has good points such as an excellent writing style that really paints the gameworld inside your mind. I just didn't expect codexers to just shrug off the conspicuously mobile feel of the game.

Waiter, take my food back! There's not enough codex rage on my plate!
Although I sort of know what you mean (namely in the UI and its large buttons), mind explaining exactly what constitutes a "mobile feel" in a point-and-click game?

Seems like the Kickstarter is not such a goldmine as some people first thought (myself including). Even though fan missions are good and everything, but I hope that future Kickstarter RPG's will not rely too much on ''fans will fix it.''

But who knows, if the first game is good, and they decide to Kickstart another sequel, maybe funds will grow, together with awesomeness!!!!
