Most negotiation skills don't really help with RNG that much. It's only a relatively small number that auto-succeeded, and those have limited targets. Negotiation skills are also given an obnoxiously high priority making them something to avoid at all costs if you ever want to fuse or sacrifice that demon since they'll fuck up your demon's skill set. Another flaw with negotiation skills is that many not only work on limited types of demons, but only function for certain types of demons. For example, to my memory using the skill that has a better chance to recruit a male only works if the user is a female demon, otherwise it auto-fails regardless of target (using the skill to recruit female demons on a female demon works fine though).

I recall the main one worth using is Valkyrie's Soul Recruit, since that is 100% success, has a very broad range of targets, and is on a demon that's relatively easy to obtain and actually good.

I always thought in Nocturne the deal was that you can use skills for other kinds of bonuses (e.g. give you a second chance after refusing a demand), but there's a separate question of whether the actual conversation and the demon's questions make any sense - I thought that was always just a random 50/50, and e.g. there's no logic that, say, a Pixie tends to be more receptive to playful answers.
There's no real logic behind it that I've ever noticed. It always came across as random dice rolling. In Nocturne you have different kinds of Negotiation skills to help increase your chances. Some fudge the dice roll more in your favor, i.e that 50/50 becomes a 70/30 (Brainwash is one of the best skills but it requires the demon with the skill to be 10 levels above the target, makes it almost 100%). A skill like like Arbitration will calm down an enraged demon which is basically letting you reroll a failed roll. Intimidate, Flatter etc. help nudge an indecisive demon's roll more toward your favor as well. Charisma is a passive booster to make Negotiations easier across the board. I always like to carry a demon with some Negotiation skills just for recruitment since even a few is enough to eliminate all the frustration.

Sometimes there's zero chance for you to successfully negotiate if you don't have the relevant skills. You can tell by using save states and trying out every possible branch, they can all lead to failure.

In any case, the shit relies on RNG upgrades or not, it is irrelevant if the chances are shifted the called out "problems" of the systems remain regardless.

In fact I would argue that the solution to the problem is quite easy: Make actual dialogues that are linked to the demon you talk to. The only problem is time and a solution to the fact that you may need multiples of said demon for fusion.
But yeah, the system is Archaic and has never been tackled.

I'm very into cock and ball torture

Longdog is unsurprisingly unchanged.
Judging from the comments the Japanese bros are especially happy to see Turdak, who had his last mainline appearance in Shin Megami Tensei II or Majin Tensei II in 1994 or 1995 respectively.

Next up is a big one, Fafnir.

Drake Fafnir: An evil dragon that appears in Norse legend. In the Volsunga Saga, written around the 12th century, it was venomous, and shook the ground with legs shaped like giant snakes as it walked. It uses Poison Breath, while Mortal Jihad and "Steel Needle" (hits a single target 1~4 times, moderate damage, high critical rate) are listed.

Those visuals. That sound design.

That sound design.

God that metallic roar is sexy.
I really hope Siegfried is in aswell. In our medieval myth the Nibelungenlied Fafnir is the dragon slain by Siegfried, which grants him immortality by bathing in his blood. He was in SMT IV but not in SMT III I believe.

Guys, there are still large open spaces only and no dungeons :/

Will it have Fallout-like fast travel?

There was some interior design shown in the first trailer about Jack Frost. I don't think that they will completely cut dungeons, that would be just silly.

On a side note:

妖獣モスマン: Wilder Mothman “I’m Wilder Mothman. Nice to meet ya!” Around the 1960s to the 80s, there was an unidentified creature sighted in America. It walked on two legs, and could fly without even flapping its wings. It is highly sensitive to the scent of blood, tracking and feeding on its source. Skill: Zionga

And Lilim seems to be next! Let's see if this game is for JarlFrank or not.

I don't mind either design, although the old Lilim is somewhat redundant with Succubus, they're basically palette swaps.

That being said they better not give Succubus the SMT5 Angel treatment :rpgcodex:

Well, a Succubus is a Succubus. Would make no sense in making a mythological creature which preys upon men look tamer, respectively less sexy.

And while I love Bondage Angel, I also like the new Angel design, and the japanese voice set for the new one is pretty awesome too:

On top of that, maybe we will get a secret appearance of Bondage Angel like we got in SMT4A (high lvl Angel version).

Night Lilim: A dream demon in female form of Judaic lore. She tempts sleeping men and attacks newborns. She is born from the demoness Lilith, who tempted Adam, and drains men's vitality just like her mother. She uses Marin Karin, while Mazionga is listed.

Wargod Futsunushi: The god of swords who appears in the Nihon Shoki. Prior to the Tenson Korin, he pacified Ashihara no Nakatsukuni. His name comes from "futsu," from the act of severing things, and "nushi," from his status as a god. He uses "Piercing Spirit" (increases the damage of the next attack and gives him a Charge with a pierce effect) and "Catastrophe" (severe?/mega? damage on one enemy), while Matarukaja is listed.
