There are also multiple options for random map generation, where you can for example choose if you want easier regions to be spawned near center, while harder regions are generated at the edges, or a completely random map. The completely random map can really screw you sometimes. I started in the region with orcs and goblins, however almost immediately adjusted to my tower was a demon region, where I constantly had to hide from fully stacked demon armies with tier 3 units from day one (they do warn you about this possibility when choosing a map generator).

Has anyone played this on impossible? I started an Alchemist run in Draycott on impossible and I'm struggling, lol. The region is crawling with snow leopards which are a huge pain in the butt to deal with using the awful goblin starting units. I'm slowly making progress but I've long abandoned the ambition of keeping all my units alive. There's also the last initial grimoire page from the circle tower which I can't take on even with my apprentice and his relatively more powerful entourage.

I've completed it multiple times on impossible. As an alchemist, one great way to trim up those beast stacks is to use a tame beast ability (or however it's called) from the second page of the Nature grimoire. Try to use it on mountain bears, they're probably the most worthwhile beast you can get in that region (maybe even on the whole map). The same grimoire should also have an ability for 25% reduced physical and elemental damage, which helps a lot. Also, any kind of elemental damage you can get will help you immensely. Dwarven ignition should be easy to brew. Draycott is definitely not the easiest area to start with as an alchemist.

My recommendation would be to not start in Draycott as an alchemist, lol. Not that it's impossible, but it will be a while before you can get your most basic tower requirements going because of no easy access to forests or workers. Artificer is better suited for this area of the map. Anyway, here's a thing I've never thought I'd say - the expansions add too much content for all of it to be available at once. At least the demon one. There are just so many things happening even in the base game that adding the demon invasion AND the coming of the trolls on top is hugely overwhelming if you haven't already exhausted everything in previous playthroughs. I suggest disabling at least one of them in the pre-game settings. The demonologist and occultism spellschool aren't disabled by doing that.
