I like Counter Monkey in general and I couldn't watch that for more than 15 minutes. Sometimes Spoony just botches his rolls.

Spoony is fun, only thing is wrong with him is that people give him too much shit and he actually listens.

Gotta love Ravenloft and the originality it brings to the table(top):

Its a pretty original setting all things considered, well, at least in the premise. Wish i was as lucky as spoony and found someone half decent DMing it.

Can't help but like Spoony, he's one of the few people I've been following for years who's content hasn't gotten old for me, as with The Cinema Snob. I can even get enjoyment out of his fucking V-Logs (though sometimes he does admittedly get caught up in nit-picking a bit too much, which made his FFXIII review a bit of a let down, though it came off to me with those that he was trying to emulate Pinkett's style of reviewing and not really nailing it).

Could be that he's the only one of them who had the common fucking decency to buy better video and audio equipment when he started hitting it big, while the fuckwits at Channel awesom still use $20 mics they got at bestbuy and their laptop camcorders.

Yeah, Spoony has been in the dumps for some time but since this year he's really hitting the :incline: with both his reviews and his life (Minority Report was great). I like both his regular reviews and Counter Monkey, and I watch pretty much all of his v-logs.

Do remember that it was concluded in one of the yearly round ups that much of the Codex may well be mentally unstable.

And yes, he does not seem to take criticism very well. I absolutely hate looking at his fucking Twitter feed. He is some different abomination altogether there, and any drama that occurs there I pay no heed. I find it abominable that the man has a terrible reputation for so much shit, and yet I see none of it. But I must not act as though it doesn't happen. I must not become a fool who simply worships an internet comedian and reviewer. It pains me to see his reputation marred in some way, but the man has done shit in the past that he won't own up to at all. I sometimes go back and listen to LordKats big rant on the guy and wonder what happened between the two to make their relationship sour as it did.

On one hand, I absolutely love the guys work. I think he is the funniest god damn thing on the internet. On the other hand, I can't help but feel pain that the man seems to continue to just garner such negative credit, and it is not just on a simple level of "Everyone is trolling". He has fans who legitimately care and I have heard he just smacks away their concern and criticism, opting instead to plug his ears and say "You're wrong! I can do no such wrong! LALALLALAALALA! NOTHING YOU SAY IS GETTING THROUGH TO ME!"

Why do you guys follow these people outside of their shows?

The man has a god-damned divine talent for riffing that I haven't seen anywhere else, short of Plinkett's dry 4-hour reviews. Spoony was one of the few people who could make me laugh out loud at my monitor, really crack me up. When he wasn't funny, he was doing actual interesting video LPs like the SWAT-one which is my favourite LP of all time along with SBH's MGS LP.

Too bad he rarely fucking riffs or LPs anything these days. It's all 2-hour long shitty, boring video logs or amateur costume play or other irrelevant shit.

I do really hope that Spoony eventually does a Let's Play of that X-Files FMV game that came on seven cd-roms. It would be glorious.

Yeah, I'm also disappointed by this. It's clear he's at his best when riffing or just improvising. Why he feels the need to constrain himself with scripted reviews is beyond me, especially with those fuck huge long Final Fantasy reviews. Does he feel obligated to do it because the Internet has him branded as "that FF guy" or something?

Hey, i like those FF reviews. Even though they are technically not a review but short LP's. So i watch them as i would watch a Fallout 3 LP made by people here.

His constant nitpickings are understandable if you look at this way too. He's an old fan of series and he saw how they destroyed everything they liked about the game. It's very similar to our nitpickings about Fallout 3 or Mass Effect.

Not out of personal but financial obligation. He's indeed known as the Final Fantasy Guy and as such people expect FF videos of him. And since it's the biggest attraction that he has on his site with the most viewers and that he lives on ad revenue it seems logical that he makes videos based on Final Fantasy.

I sometimes go back and listen to LordKats big rant on the guy and wonder what happened between the two to make their relationship sour as it did.
LordKat once told Spoony to take his brother's gun and shoot himself. I have no idea what the fuck happened, but it sure as hell wasn't pretty.

Honestly I think he is best when he is scripted and fakes improvising. For example, SWAT LP, Phantasmagoria LP and others are fully scripted (voice added after playing), but made to seem like they're improvised.

I also quite like the FF-reviews, though not the FFXIII review.

My point just is: he should do reviews, and LPs. No costume playing shit trying to force being funny, no video logs, no story-babble, no bullshit.

Counter monkey is pretty good most of the times. There is one that is incredibly boring, but most of them are actually interesting.

The way I understand it is that he does a combination of scripting and improv for his LP's (I'm pretty sure he mentioned this briefly in one of his episodes): He'll do an initial improvised commentary over the gameplay, then come back to it in the editing phase and re-record/add in commentary to smoothen the whole thing (i.e. explaining the difficulty he had in one of the sections, correcting flubbed statements and non-sequiturs, add in more appropriate jokes that he didn't think of in the initial commentary, etc).
