Skyway, a question.

Since you understand the language spoken in the game, did that ever turn you off from it? For the rest of us - we just heard some bandits shouting in some foreign language; you would have known what they were saying.

So was all the original voicing and dialogue somewhat cheesy or silly sounding to a native? Was the original writing and voicing Legacy of Kain material, or was it like one of a Bethesda NPC? :)

Not a language, but rather the "writing". Stuff like those stalker unfunny jokes (in a "stalker walks into a bar" style) that they repeated over and over again and bandits that reminded me of the ones in cheap russian tv series. It didn't turn me off though as the rest of the language-related stuff was ok, it's the gameplay mainly that did.

Skyway usually judges the games un-modded
What's the difference? You can't fix the design. Though Stalker has no design, thus there is nothing to fix.

in an early after release version
You probably missed a part where I said that patches fixed nothing, not even the goddamn sun was fixed in 1.005. Silly respawn, dumb AI, awful excuse for a plot, a corridor from Cordon to NPP, moronic theme-park maps that don't make any sense (like aforementioned Yantar) are still there.
It took them 6 years to make a tech-demo of Stalker. And 2 years later it sucks as it did.
1. So what? I wasn't arguing with you. But now that you've started: Mods can fix lots of small stuff. In any game. Whether you can mod it yourself or find a mod that fits your tastes is another question.
2. Fix "nothing" for you. They probably fixed a lot of stuff that improved the game for people who already liked it. But you did play an early after release version, didn't you? Come on say yes so I can gloat over the stupidity of you contending something that is true just for the sake of it.

I've played it both with 1.002 and 1.005 because "you gotta try that patch, it fixes many things!"
What I saw was basically the exactly same shit. My complaints are hardly about bugs - and the things I've named were still there.
Thankfully Stalker is only 5 hours long if you don't treat it like a theme park.

Mods can fix small things - I've never denied that - like f.e. the sun trajectory, because 2 years weren't enough to fix that for GSC. However that's it.
