I played neither anomaly nor gamma but this video made me want to go back into STALKER. (modded)

The best way to play Anomaly is to build your own mod compilation. I personally go a step further and usually tweak the mods/addons to my own taste.

It's time consuming and compatibility can be a little frustrating at times, but you'll probably end up enjoying the experience a lot more then one of the big packs.

As Theo says, most Anomaly pre-made mod packs are super bloated and usually highly taste specific. Personally I prefer less Misery style mechanics and the game closer in style to the original trilogy.

Watching this got me thinking I should download Anomaly but last time I downloaded modded Stalker and tried to play it, I spent 5 to 10h ingame and learned I suck at these kind of shooters and there was nothing else to do in that version of the game. And I probably spent 2h installing and getting everything ready.

Time consuming is putting it lightly. Manually installing mods isn't a big deal for one or two mods on a set-in-stone project, but having to use moddb and manage compatibility updates breaking everything makes anomaly a bit of a nightmare to get into. Never realised how much I had come to rely on Steam / mod managers for this kinda thing until this just upended it all. Probably the reason these bloated modpacks are so popular in the first place.

Supposedly you can use Mod Organizer 2 with it, but it's still a pretty manual process.

A lot of mods now use the DLTX format. So compatibility is less of an issue as long as they don't modify the same sections of LTX files.

If you grab the DLTX patched exes from here:

Any mods that have DLTX in the name/description should be pretty painless. For others, just keep an eye on if they try to overwrite the same files, if they do then notepad++ comparison plugin or winmerge is your best friend if the devs haven't created a patch of their own.

Most conflicts are generally pretty easy to resolve unless they actually modify the exact same section of an LTX or script file.

Anyone have any experience with Road to the North? Just looking to scratch an itch with some new quests until the True Stalker Mod comes out.

I played it a couple of years ago. It's basically just Anomaly/Call of Misery with more Call of Pripyat quests ported over.

Much like Anomaly's story mode though it's pretty flat and unimaginative.

GAMMA is a very polished modpack but its still just anoomaly at the end of the day. Color me unsurprised that there still isn't any new quest/story content for anoomaly.

I want to think they're trying to build interesting systems to make "modern" gameplay out of, but sometimes I think modders just get carried away with with random shit, rather than building actual stories and experiences.

Oh well, at least Stalker 2 is still very much on the way; as well as the upcoming release of that mod that jebsmoker is helping to translate.

i'm roughly line at 750 with the current file i'm doing, and it'll be done well before november.

however, it'll probably only get a fraction of the first major revision pass for the cordon file done by the time we hit the release date. you'll probably encounter typos, grammatical mistakes or raw translations that don't make sense. if you encounter this, take pictures and send them to me so i can do quick and easy fixes via ctrl + f searching + revising. pm them to me, send a carrier pigeon to me, whatever method works for you. there will probably be a few more months of translation patches after the first release

i like to take my time and smell the roses when i play stalker, so if you play faster than me you'll probably encounter mistakes before i do

i can get why people like CoC but playing variations of the same exact thing can get old
Story content? None since they introduced 3 story lines that unlocks Renegades, Sin and IGN.
There were some side quest task lines, like the one where you need to find samples in anomalies, no idea if there are more. It was called "IGNIJI tasks" or something like that...
I know for a fact there are more story and sidequests in the Dead Air addons like DAR Rebalance, Rerum, Revolution etc. just go to Moddb->Dead Air->Addon and search for english translations

Anyone have any experience with Road to the North? Just looking to scratch an itch with some new quests until the True Stalker Mod comes out.
It was extended version of Call of Misery, which was first (and best because modpacks like Last Day were unstable as fuck, which motivated people to create 64bit engines for STALKERs) attempt at merging Misery with Call of Chernobyl big world. Not much bloat, some barebone new features that didn't work or required devs mindset.
RottN was your best pick for TAZ The Armed Zone weapon pack since Call of Pripyat was too small and had little combat to test even smallets batch of weapons in the field.
As for new quests - main story line starts with chimera hunt in the Zaton. No work in the south like it should happen progress wise? You can plays as a woman which changes some NPC lines and grunting noises when hit. Oh and new NPC(s?) also include new female faces and they're :prosper:

no, i'll probably do olr 3.0 if that ever comes out (emphasis on if, it's in dev hell i think)

also, i finished the dark valley file today and now i gotta do the cordon one.

i gotta go through around 1.5k lines of dialogue now. i'll be happy to get at least half of that done and do the rest after 1.0 is out

GAMMA is a very polished modpack but its still just anoomaly at the end of the day. Color me unsurprised that there still isn't any new quest/story content for anoomaly.

There is that Artefact Hunter mod for Anomaly which contains a storyline which is supposed to be good, but it has never been translated.

Baron not sure if you're up on the news but the big one this year was that a helpful fellow made a significantly better machine translation script with hand edits for NLC7 and it's really quite good. Perfectly playable/understandable at every turn, unlike the previous machine translations we had which were a nosebleed exercise in Philology. Nigga even translated multiple versions. It was so good I would've done a full playthrough if I had the time, but alas these days I do not and NLC7 is a huge campaign.

I got an itch for some Stalker action since there's nothing to play, started playing base Anomaly 1.5.2 and the AI makes me feel like I'm playing Ghost Recon Wildlands at the highest difficulty. Enemies instantly see (and shoot at full auto) me from a distance where, on my screen, they are made out of 20 pixels, while I'm hidden partially behind cover and/or through bushes that completely obscure my line of sight.

E: Oh yeah, and if that wasn't enough enemies make zero noise when moving, I had a guy just walk up to me through some fucking bushes from the side and shoot me point blank without a sound.

i've become buoyed by the good progress i've been making (and the others onboard contributing) and i've been able to get more done - considerably more progress than my initial predictions

november is gonna be good, there won't be much left i hope

i can't give dates but i'm entering the period in which i'm starting to beeline towards the finish line for the current fine i'm working on. it's only a few days until november. after release, i'll resume work for patches

the huge file i was working on is done and release is close. it's possibly closer than you think, but x-ray is a cruel and fickle mistress and other translation team members are trying to figure out specific technical issues related to CTD's and such

now i'm gonna focus on working on revising text/adding paragraph breaks to the xml file that holds all the strings for the weapon descriptions. i probably won't be able to finish that in time for release. it's all hand-written stuff, but i completely forgot to put in proper paragraph breaks so i'm gonna add some so that your eyes don't get burnt out when reading those

notes:

some of the weapon descriptions may appear fucked up - this will gradually be taken care of with patches

some of the dialogue may be a bit raw or weird (i.e. russian-specific idioms that don't translate well), but it has been otherwise heavily revised

you may get ctd's, i have no idea, share crash log files if you can

take screenshots if you find something fucked up and share it
