I don't think they will ever "get around to working on the story". Anomaly devs claim that the aim was to make a platform for future mods, and yet they included tons of dumb shit as the awful Misery artifacts in it, or the cooking system (who in their right mind would eat anything from the zone? the only thing that could be remotely edible are the boars).

There's a lot of zoomers getting into Stalker who have never played the original games, their only experience is playing Anomaly and addons. Those are not really the people who can design a good story-driven experience. A quick look at moddb will prove this. Youtubers and streamers also add to this problem. It is what it is.

Funny that we started talking about AMK again all these years later.

If someone were to ask what my favorite mod is, without reservation I'd say NLC7.

But if someone were to ask me what the best SOC mod is, I'd have to say AMK autumn edition. The difference is that NLC7 is definitely not for everyone, whereas AMK just takes whats good about OG Stalker and enhances it. It's a nearly perfect mod.

I'd like to see an updated AMK package, with a less grossly outdated weapon pack, maybe one of the new weather mods and some bugfixes. Alas, OGSR seems to have taken over the focus for that kind of mod and that's sad because OGSR is really quite a departure from the OG game, lot of whackadoo shit and time-wasting content. Doesn't help that the latest iterations of OGSR are pretty shit, like OGSR Gunslinger with its janky ass half implemented animations and non-existent balance.

Most of those standalone mods are for survival experience/gunporn/roaming around.

Your opinion on Anomaly mod?
It's one of the biggest mods out there, with a huge community that is constantly making new addons. Also, it's very stable and runs well.

But at the same time, it's just a huge world that feels empty. You can around for hours, collecting random garbage to craft something or just hunt for mutants. Basically, you have to make up your own story, because it has none. It can never match story total conversions. Anomaly is good if you're into taking screenshots, or just fucking around with the engine, seeing all the different guns etc. I'd say just stick to vanilla+ for now, then go for some story total conversions later.
This is bullshit? I played Anomaly last year and it does have a story. I know because I followed it through to the end.

If the story is good or not will fall on each one tastes. But it's there, and it's serviceable enough.

Yep, innumerable times. Including the weaksauce fetch-quest stuffed SoC original.

Let's be honest, aside from cutscenes and a couple beats near the end, the original SoC story is nothing to tell home about, and is even more nonsensic than Anomaly in parts. Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat I give you, have more dynamic decision trees and faction shenanigans that make the whole affair more interesting.

Anomaly is an interesting timewaster but it does not compare to SoC. Most of the gameplay is spent grinding rep and collecting Misery style items where you have 15 different weapon repair items that can only be used at certain thresholds, and many of the new guns have all kinds of problems with their 3D scopes, animations, or smoothing groups. I'd rather have SoC's consistent but somewhat ugly photo textures than inconsistent assets and animations that don't mesh well together.

... and SoC campaign is a fetch-quest galore.

The story was never the appeal of SoC, only an excuse to dive into its setting. If you want sensible story progression, only CoP is worth it.

if you don't care about stories in games and just want to experience the core gameplay loop, that's fine, but saying anomaly is better than soc is retarded

there's numerous total conversions that are a million times better anyway

It looks good but the OLR team is like two prison gay gopnik crackheads who compile something every 6 months in-between taking turns making the other one wear a wig and assuming the female role.

In other words, I bet S2 comes out before OLR 3.0 does

A question for experienced Stalkers: does AMK Autumn Edition have the same problem as AA where saves get corrupted if you have more than four quests active?

I never had corrupted saves in AMKAE. That said it is generally considered good practice in SOC mods to use hard saves only (protip: just hit the console key and type save sssfsfsfsf or whatever you like) and limit the amount of quests you have active.

Me neither. Only issue I ever had with AMK AE was occasional random crashes.

Thing to remember is it's built off AMK core just with some of the AA graphical changes ported over.

AA is the only mod I've actually ever seen which seems to easily corrupt saves. AA corrupts your saves if you even glance at it wrong.

Which version of NLC7 is the best? The latest? Or earlier? These things do tend to get a bit bloated in later builds, I would imagine, as the authors more and more succumb to their various autism spectrums until that final descent into madness. If I want to use the DeepL english translatiion I'm not sure I have much of a choice since early builds aren't supported, I don't think. I was going to give Goldsphere a shot but I heard if you make one innocent mistake like going to the wrong area first or attempting a quest out of order, you're dead because the mod breaks, and therefore the game can't be played without a guide. Is this true? No fun in that.

I've tried AMK Autumn again with better GPU and for some reasons fans are still spinning loud while playing it. Tried other mods and projects and had no issue like that... tried VSync in-game and Nvidia panel but still loud as hell. Bollocks...

In other words, I bet S2 comes out before OLR 3.0 does
or Legends Return 1.0 of all things

iirc first project with RPG elements
there is translation for last version on moddb which is better than whatever was before

no hope for Dead Air 1.0? At least there could be some translations for the bigger addons...

Hard Edition 2.3 with a very specific patch is the only one we have a working translation for currently. Details on our discord https://discord.com/channels/550866347995824138/978015795424657508/1053849301584990290

Heh, I was on there about 10 minutes ago just before you posted this. Took me a while to find the topic though.

since the badly translated descriptions for the weapons in ogsr: gunslinger bug me, i decided to do something about it:

https://anonfiles.com/z6KcO0P1ya/ogsr_ga_translation_patch_1_zip

enjoy

i've been fixing typos in various other things too, so this will get updated

also if you're wondering whats been happening to the patches for goldsphere, the guy who leads the translation project has been having some computer woes and irl stuff to contend with, so it might be a while before any patches for those come out. i've still been cracking away at proofreading and revising dialogue and such daily for goldsphere

Sorry, I meant to post this in the STALKER 2 thread here

Not sure what mod has the "best" alife. It's a bit of a misconceived question IMO. As players have seen from Anomaly, having full simulation enabled across some 32 maps or something, doesn't necessarily make for exciting gameplay. Then theres all the other factors to consider, population settings, gulags that prevent or allow certain migrations and what not, etc.

AMK had good alife IMO, OGSR was off the fucking hook and a lot of fun - at least it was pre-cumslinger edition. I can't speak to the latest one because the jank implementation of gunslinger hurts me so much so I never get further than cordon.

I have only 4 major mods in my S.T.A.L.K.E.R folder now when I used to horde any new mod that sounded different or looked like good soupy fun. I learned that different and bigger is not necessarily fun, good or stable. OGSR is among them. I didn't get the Gunslinger version because I was scared off by player reviews that it was grotesquely unbalanced.
