I like it too simply because it's easy to get any interesting paid mods for free. They can kiss my ass with their overpriced nonsense.

I'd say the media will change their tune and hail Starfield as a masterpiece that managed to redeem itself.

Almost a given. "Actually, ______________ is good now!" is practically it's own subgenre of game coverage.
So this is the point of AAA games being worse each year, they just make the old ones look better and they make it easier for the journos... I see...

Are you a female that likes Starfield? What are the measurements for your clothing? Asking for science.
I'm trying to but it's a strange game where I can play for hours and do a bunch of quests but still feel like I did absolutely nothing.

I'm looking forward to mods growing and hope the creation kit wasn't too late for the good stuff to be made.

That's kind of true for the base game. It helps a bit if you enjoy seeing numbers go up. Grinding XP to kill higher level enemies for better loot, collecting all the space shouts, etc.

And no, I don't think it was too late. There are some pretty cool mods being worked on with several rebalance mods and mods that add more diversity to the procedural generation. The game already looks much better than what I played on launch and that's before the first DLC even dropped.

Killing Starborn is fun, the problem is that the power temples are all just one room and a boss fight instead of an entire dungeon like Todd envisioned. They were clearly supposed to be like Oblivion Gates

The Creation Kit seems to have frankly resulted in jack shit so far. It really is too little too late and unless Shittered Space saves the day then I don't think it's ever going to get the kind of modding community that Skyrim et al had.

I mean most of the top mods on the Nexus right now are still stupid shit like "replace all posters with AI-generated speedo hunks" and "some weapon from some shitty Star Wars thing that looks totally wrong when put next to every other asset in the game and also sucks balls" and "new haircut for Sarah that looks way fucking worse and also deletes your save due to a mistake by the modder" and "minor mechanical tweak which you literally won't notice in-game". Unlike TES and Fo3/FNV there's just no basis to start building mods on.

Custom POIs is the only exciting thing and it's so much work that I can't imagine that we're gonna see many. The NuDoom mod is kind of a testament to how hard it is to actually mod this game because it obviously sucks but at the same time, what the fuck are you meant to do other than shove random disparate shit from other franchises in?

I think the modding scene is doing quite well. What mods are you expecting to see that you're missing now?

I'll have to turn the question around and ask you for your top mod reccomendations. From what I've seen the Nexus is filled with very minor superficial stuff - a lot of Star Wars conversions, some ship builder mods (which is cool but not an aspect of the game I was hugely interested in), a lot of questionable cosmetic mods, and not much else.

I suppose I'm looking for things that alter the core of the game itself - quest mods, mechanical overhauls in the style of things like Requiem or OOO, something to either make procgen planets worthwhile or otherwise just remove their influence on the game, stuff like that. Above all else the game is just screaming out for more content, but I don't think we're ever going to get a Starfield equivalent of, say, Legacy of the Dragonborn or Tamriel Rebuilt. The game has been almost a year and the modding scene doesn't look healthy compared to how I remember Skyrim's community being in late 2012.

I posted some mods that caught my eye on page 236. I haven't started modding the game yet so I can't be sure what's good but some of the stuff looked quite interesting. I'm mostly excited for more POI stuff and better loot. Coupled with a better survival mode (this mod looks interesting: Starvival - Immersive Survival Addon) and improved combat would make the game a lot better. Of course extra shipbuilding and crafting mods would be cool, and I've seen mods for that being worked on as well.

It's been almost a year since the game came out and the modding scene doesn't look healthy compared to how I remember Skyrim's community being in late 2012.
There are ~8500 mods on the nexus right now. Saying that's not a healthy amount of mods is kind of strange. It will overtake Morrowind in total mod downloads soon. Also the CK came out only 2 months ago. Don't think modders had enough time yet to create some big overhaul mods. Starfield is also a new setting with new game systems. I'd say give it some time for modders to settle in and cook up some good stuff.

Unless all the interesting mods are in Bethesda's portal, then Starfield's modding scene is largely irrelevant.

Did you mean to say "If all the interesting mods are in Bethesda's portal, then Starfield's modding scene is largely irrelevant."?

And they aren't, at least I don't think so. Plenty of mods on the nexus.

Are there any major game franchises that would be easily ported to a Starfield DLC? Maybe Prey, Deus Ex, (Elder Scrolls obviously), I guess Thief? Wonder how many companies would be willing to work with Bethesda for a crossover. Ironically if Cyberpunk had been a Starfield plugin it probably wouldn't have ended up as code spaghetti

Surely all crossovers will fail on the grounds that Starfield's mechanics barely support anything. Don't get me wrong, I think Starfield is solid mechanically but you're not gonna be in a situation where you're going to Thief Planet and sneaking through Lord Bafford's Manor with Starfield's shitty stealth (that's functionally identical to Oblivion's) while Sarah walks around in full view of the guards; the result of that would simply be that people would spend the whole time wanting to play Thief instead. Even for something like TES or Fallout, the absence of core systems like magic and VATS would make it feel like nothing more than a shittier and smaller version of something that already exists.

The worst thing about franchise crossovers here though is that Starfield is floundering specifically because it has no identity of its own. Adding in Fallout Planet or Tamriel Planet or w/e will surely just make it feel even more soulless. Even if it was justified in-universe as some multiverse travel thing of "we've found a stargate or something, wow, it can take us to the worlds of Star Trek/Xena Warrior Princess/Lord of the Rings, wow!!!" it'd just be very depressing.
