I don't even know what the hell that idiot was going on about claiming I live in a "bunker" and should be incarcerated in a mental institution. Should everybody that has higher native intelligence than he does be incarcerated in a mental institution?

The reality is that the excavation costs alone for my shelter probably exceed what that guy will earn in his entire adult life. That shelter was hewn from ancient granite using special drill bits I paid enormous sums for to have brought down from a mining company in Northern Queensland.

I didn't inherit my money, I didn't steal it and I didn't get it from a loanshark. I earned it wisely over the course of many years. Nobody has helped me. I built that shelter at my own expense after also designing it following years of studying the problem.

Saint Proverbius and the other local sh*thouse lawyers talk like they know something about this. They don't know anything at all. They don't even know what they don't know. They don't understand why I built the shelter and probably literally lack the brains to ever understand no matter how carefully I explained it to them.

I refer you to today's headlines in the newspaper to understand why I built the shelter. If that doesn't make anything click for you, I'm already tired.

I'm not going to sit around like "Not Sure" in IDIOCRACY and ask you over and over again why you think Brawndo has what plants crave. It makes me feel weary. If I was "Not Sure," I'd have escaped into the mountains and allowed that entire society to starve to death. Hey, come to think of it, that's exactly what I did.

By the way, the use of the word "Nazi" to brand anybody who says we should put toilet water on plants as bad is why the word has ceased to mean anything at all.

I also want to point out that the inability to grasp hyperbole or satire is characteristic of children who failed to get enough oxygen at birth. I don't seem to have a problem understanding how exaggeration can be extremely funny when used in the right context. Lots of you do which makes me wonder if the autism epidemic is overrepresented on this board.

Now maybe it isn't the case - maybe he doesn't have schizophrenia. Well guess what - Australia's psych laws are almost word for word the same as yours in most states of the US - the only difference is in the hearing procedure, in which yours I'll readily admit is better (I trust a court decision more than a specialist tribunal). Under either system someone whose life has deteriorated that badly, and who rants in the manner that he does, and frankly has really fucking wierd views about his own body that seem very much to be delusions, would be viewed as being at least a candidate for schizophrenia. Now fortunately in Australia that usually means a couple of weeks in hospital before being discharged with a psych referral. In the US its a stay that can go for years, but hey who cares as long as they're out of sight huh?

Of course, if you're faking it, you'd probably come out with some lame gibberish about schizophrenia. If you understand the condition, you'd know what a schizophrenic sounds like. First of all, there are no schizophrenic authors of my calibre. They have trouble organizing their thoughts sufficiently to write with the clarity, simplicity or generally superior composition that I do. Let's review ... Funny, when thinking about the hideously deformed midget that calls itself Sol Invictus, the word "intellectual" never comes to mind. We're talking about a guy who has several hours a night to spare to talk in a chat room about how he'd like to commit rape, eat human flesh and kill almost everybody.

Also: Could you point out to me where Sol Invictus or anyone else has alleged a connection between you and right-wing terrorist groups? Granted, I only skimmed over the ~400 posts made in the Great 2005 Cleve Vs Sol drama, but all I could find were some quotes of you claiming that Sol made that connection.

It's the simplest question in the world to answer.

All people with Asperger's Syndrome have the same achilles heel in their character. It's universal to almost everybody with this condition.

When they're enthusiastic, they can hyperfocus on work like nobody else on the planet. If somebody with Asperger's is enjoying something, they can honestly do the work of ten men in timeframes that boggle the mind. Sounds like it's too good to be true.

Here comes the rest of the story.

Once a person with Asperger's gets bored or feels they have mastered something so thoroughly there are no discoveries left to make, they are far worse than merely lazy. They are practically inert. It's like trying to get a dying mule on it's feet.

Boredom is the Kryptonite to what seems like "super powers" that the Asperger sufferer is born with. In fact, if you examine their lives objectively and without bias, it probably all evens out to the same amount of work an ordinary man will do in his life. It is just that the Asperger's guy can do these spectacular manic bursts of productivity that no human being can ever hope to match. On the other hand, if you see them when they are bored, they are worse than useless.

My resume is a series of even/odd anecdotes like this. If you call one guy for a reference, he'll say "Cleve Blakemore is possibly the most brilliant computer programmer on Earth. That guy can code like a centipede with poison ivy. He did more work in his first two months at our company than all previous employees combined." Unfortunately, if you call the next guy, he will tell you, "Cleve Blakemore is the laziest and most shiftless individual that has ever appeared in the human gene pool. We were worried several times that his autonomous functions had come to a complete halt when we employed him and for this reason we permanently mounted a hand mirror under his chin at his desk so we could make certain he was still breathing from the condensation on the surface."

So ask yourself how you'd feel about working on a colossal game you had been plugging away at for ten years, rewritten almost completely like five times and totally redid the scenario at least once. For most ordinary people, completing the game would be a real miserable chore. For a person with Asperger's, it would be like forcing them to unicycle around in a circle in a white featureless room listening to Abba's greatest hits playing over and over again in an infinite cycle. It would be Asperger's Hell.

... remember, all built practically by one person. Everything you see, almost all of it done by a single person. Outside of excavation and crane, everything else done by a single man working alone with no help from anybody.

See those drums sitting in the bottom of the pit? No kidding, I moved those into place by hand. Probably well over 600 lbs each. If I tried to do that today I would be crushed like an insect. I am only a shell of the man I once was. I'm only about 3-4 times stronger than an ordinary person nowadays. Truly a wreck. Kind of like pathetic evil Superman in Superman III with Richard Prior. A staggering confused bum in a badly soiled cape and stained tights.

So, how is the game coming along?

The truth, Aspy-style? It's drab and disappointing. So here goes.

In the past month, I have worked on two NPC scripts, fixed some startup bugs and did some editing of treasure groups. Still got at least 12 NPCs to finish up. If I work hard on them I can often do 1-2 in a single night, depending on the complexity of their interaction.

Oh, and I also put a progress bar in at the start of the game so people don't stare at the splash screen wondering if it has crashed.

The shelter system is behind a modern, comfortable two story house that was constructed at the same time. Nobody lives in the shelter. It's a shelter, for emergencies.

If I had said something to that effect, about living in the shelter, it was purely as a joke. To be funny. It's hyperbole. People who don't realize that it was a joke make me afraid. In fact, many people on the Internet make me afraid. They're just a little too humorless. Again, often children who had difficult births or their umbilical got wrapped around their throat tend to become adults who take everything literally. Have you ever told a joke to a person like that and had a great big laugh, only to wipe the tears from your eyes and realized that person was staring at you as somber as a church? Then, when they realized they should laugh, it was all fakey and their eyes bulged out kind of scarily as they made these bogus laughing noises? Then you try to keep talking to that person but you get this cold sheen of sweat on your brow as it slowly dawns on you this person may be a can short of a six-pack. You try to invent some reason you have to leave. You then move to the other side of the room and face the corner and sip at your Coke trembling slightly because you're worried that person is now staring at your back. It's spooky.

The new version is much, much, much improved over the old beta from 1998. I won't say it's unrecognizable but it is very different in appearance and gameplay. The artwork is certainly greatly improved.
