Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Seeing your character's hands doesn't add anything to systemic gameplay and in the end brings nothing to the table other than the potential of being annoying.

Same with your character's legs when you look down. I don't understand how there can be people out there who want to have some badly animated model obscuring their view when looking down (not to mention how to make the animations make sense almost all games with them limit how you can interact with ladders).
I like that kind of stuff

Makes you feel present in the world, instead of just a floating camera.

- you can block projectiles which is possibly unintended but enjoyable, this triggers the collision disabling effect from above https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0F1rHWOka0
Is that possible in System Shock too?
Certain projectiles can apparently be deflected.

https://shodan.fandom.com/wiki/Cyborg_Assassin_(System_Shock)
Shurikens can be deflected with weapon fire before they hit the player.
https://shodan.fandom.com/wiki/Cyborg_Elite_Guard
These missiles can be deflected when shot at, to the point of flying backwards (though they cannot hurt the Elites) and disappear when they hit any surface.
https://shodan.fandom.com/wiki/Mutated_Cyborg
These travel at moderate speed and can be deflected when shot at.

That's cool, I wouldn't have guessed they are fully physics enabled.

Btw, my answer was regarding System Shock 2, actually, never tried it in 1 but apparently there is something after all.

Agreed. I'm always disappointed if I don't have legs in a first person game, definitely not a big issue but I'm always happy when they're there. Only game where they made a slight impact was with Left 4 Dead 1 though where I got smacked by a tank off the roof of a building and my character's legs animated flying out and upward as I was knocked back and fell and made the moment a bit cooler. They removed the legs from L4D2 as well as made all the weapon models fatter, so even though L4D2 is superior to the original in almost every way it was a mild shame for first person flavor.

Not to derail the thread too much, but I thought Left 4 Dead 1 was much better in terms of atmosphere, setting, and character. 2 felt so goofy compared, and some of the special monsters are just a pain in the ass. The sound of the jockey still gives me PTSD.

Final Call To Update Your Backerkit Info

Why is this important?

With the shipping date fast approaching, this is a final call to ensure that your physical rewards arrive at the correct location.

This does NOT apply to backers that only will receive digital rewards.

How Long Do I Have?

Each Backer has until March 6th, 2023 to update their shipping details. After this date, all orders will be locked and no further changes can be made.

How To Change or Update Shipping Address Survey?

First, visit the following website > System-shock.backerkit.com

e5efb414f5a6bb6334bbe012034247ec_original.png

Once you are logged in, select “Edit Your Address” on the top right.

ccfb5ebb49eeb7c67253ba072c8c5e29_original.png

Once you do, you should see an “Edit Shipping Info” on the left.

901bf1515f8fae699d3ddf66b33f5407_original.png

If the address is correct, no further action is needed.

**NOTE** if you DO NOT see “Edit Shipping Info”, that means your order is locked. If the address is incorrect AND you don’t have the option to edit your shipping info, please contact us at support@nightdivestudios.com about getting this unlocked.

If you can update your information, you will come to a page like this one:

d9e4d2d6633f2498555c57f378481454_original.png

Enter in your correct information.

Once you complete this process, that is the final step.

That’s all for now!

I heard backers are getting beta codes now as well, although they don't currently work.

At this point it's not a backer beta and more of one of things MMOs do where preorders get to play 3 days "early"

So if I preorder now I'll get to play tomorrow? Will my progress carry over to the full release?
The beta is only for people who pledged for that Kickstarter tier, not regular pre orders. I'm sure it's going to be leaked anyway.

They asked nicely that we don't.

So it will, yes.

It always happens. Rogue Trader's beta was up on piracy sites the same day it came out.

Beta delayed from "later this month" to "aiming for Friday". Have they ever met a single deadline?
https://old.reddit.com/r/systemshock/comments/11dr6t8/wheres_the_beta/jaav3g2/
i don't expect the full game to be out until june but i wouldn't say that having a more specific date in mind isn't a delay for the beta. march 3rd is a lot sooner than 'later this month'

It was "later this month" last month.
.... oh

can't they just do what doom 3 or duke nukem forever did and say 'it's done when it's done' instead of constantly blue-balling the community

I think it's going to be pretty good when it's finally released, but yeah... the release has become a running joke at this point.

March 2023 Update

The day has finally arrived and the Backer Beta is here!

All tiers that pledged $50 or higher are eligible, this includes:

  • Humanoid Mutant
  • Drone Cyborg
  • Cyborg Assassin
  • Cyborg Enforcer
  • Human Corpse
  • Cyborg Elite
  • Cortex Reaver
  • Retailer
  • Hacker
  • Shodan
  • Citadel Crew Member
  • Shodan's Pet

First and foremost, we ask you that you do not stream, or share screenshots/video to avoid spoiling the game for others. With that said we hope you have fun!

Here’s how to access the game:

We’ve received a ton of requests to make this Beta a separate release so backers can keep it in their library post launch.

You’ll be required to log-in to your backerkit to retrieve your Steam key which you can redeem.

Once activated you should see “System Shock - Backer Beta” in your Steam library.

Here are some things to keep in mind while playing the Beta game…

  1. There will be bugs
  2. There will be unfinished/unpolished features
  3. The Beta will receive periodic hotfixes/updates
  4. Initially only English language will be available
After you’re done playing we would really appreciate your feedback so we can improve the experience. We’ve prepared a few questions in a survey you can access here:

(Link to Survey)

That’s it! We hope you have a great time.

Curiously checking the comment section to read some of the backer's tears.
Looks like they uploaded an entire list of beta keys to everyone. After noticing the mistake the keys were deactivated, so no one can actually play the beta at the moment.

You HAVE to be kidding me.

-reads kickstarter-

You're not kidding me. People are straight up getting timed out by steam for trying too many keys. It's like the hunger games over there, except everyone's dead and someone stole it all.

Another fantastic communication and rollout. Take the day off guys!

At this rate I'll be surprised if it releases in the next few months. Still says March on Steam.
