They did it. The madlads actaully did it. Seven years after the last release, they finally finished it.

The Team Fortress 2 comic is done.

It's a damn smissmas miracle.
It feels nice to get closure on this. It started while I still played TF2, but I quit in 2016.

Three questions remain:

1: Where is Miss Pauline?
2: Did I miss Pyro, or are they not in the final scene?
3: Why do I get the strange feeling Olivia went on to do something of relevance in another Valve-game?
For the second question: Below the Medic and the wine glass.

merry smissmas bros!

while i have never been into extended tf2 lore - for me lore drops could have stopped with meet the medic, meet the pyro was abysmal - its nice that valve decided to give the community some kind of closure. ending the comics with saxton saying "YOU WANNA LIVE FOREVER?" is a nice way to communicate that tf2 is over. finally... a confirmation.
valve seems to be regaining a lot of its momentum, and i consider this comics release to be a part of it, however im not sure if im happy with valves direction. for years they have been fucking around in the backend of the industry (polishing steam, investing in virtual reality tech, hardware) and pumping out soulless, but unfortuantely extremely successful, competitive garbage. this made many fans who fall in love with valve for their 1998-2011 releases bitter. tf2 community screaming for proper updates for years would be a perfect example. at some point HL enjoyers must have thought that epistle 3 will be the closure for their series. but it seems like valve remembers that it used to make cool games, as HLs got a spin-off a couple of years ago and awesome anniversary coverages with massive updates very recently. tf2 seemed dead for years, but now we have a confirmation of it.
so whats next? as crazy as it sounds, of all the 00s valve games, HL seems to me to be the most likely one to receive a proper main series installment. what else will be out there for valve fans to enjoy? tf2 is dead, l4d is dead, portal is dead, what else can you offer me, gabe? dota2, cs2, and deadlock updates? hard pass.

According to Forbes Valve made $5 billion in 2023. If we take that as an exact number they made almost $13,7 million per day.

You don't need to go on risky and difficult business ventures when you are making that kind of money by just operating a digital storefront.

one could argue that it gives them so much financial security, that they could release flop, after flop, after flop, and would barely feel it. but yes, its sad (sad for fans, not so much for valve) that they neither need nor want to do anything risky and instead are doubling down on competitive games. comp multiplayer and its consequences have been a disaster for gaming...
