The Aliens campaign is most definitely DLC material? They are in desperate need of money.
They said the aliens will be a campaign only antagonist faction for now and they might make them playable later, possibly as a DLC. The original plan was to have 3 factions at the start but money's tight.

It's been awhile since i last played RTS in multiplayer, managed to score a win on my first online match after some practice with normal AI.
That fella was clearly a noob who didn't expand. I had fun.
Didn't encounter any serious pathfinding issues either.

Next Fest Singleplayer Demo Available Now!

>Battle Command uplink initializing...

Hi everyone, a new singleplayer demo for Tempest Rising is available to download NOW during the Steam Next Fest! This demo will be playable from February 24 to March 10!

What's included in this demo?

4 Campaign Missions

  • Dynasty mission 1 (Harvest the Tempest) and mission 2 (The Informant)
  • GDF mission 1 (Signal Lost) and mission 2 (The Hornet's Nest)

Skirmish Mode

  • Play against AI bots in custom offline matches
  • 3 maps: Altitude, Overgrown Oasis, and Alps.

Community feedback changes

Thank you to everyone for participating in our last Multiplayer Demo during Steam RTS Fest! We received a lot of great feedback from the community during this demo and we've made some changes to address some of the most common feedback. We've outlined the changes made below.

  • Zoom distance increased: This change is available in our Skirmish mode; this is not available in our campaign due to the way our missions are designed.
  • Rebind Build Grid Menu: We received a lot of feedback about our default hotkeys and addressed a frequent request to be able to rebind the Build Grid Menu; we're currently working on adding more rebind options for the future.
  • Improved Harvester behavior: GDF Harvesters will now go to the nearest refinery and will also queue if that is the fastest option. If too many units are queued, they will travel to the second closest refinery.
  • Improved visibility of Ammo and Health bars: This change was made to improve the readability of key unit info during matches.
Join the Tempest Rising Discord to share your feedback with the team and chat with other players in the community!

Its level of shittiness will depend on the campaign since their attempt to become "esport" is about 2 out of 10 .
Yes, I think Tempest's team saw that Stormgate was going after the eSport niche, such as it is. By the looks of it, they decided to leave them to it.

I doubt that is the reason. My guess is that they never cared to go for that part of RTS community as that is hard to succeed at.

I hope their SP campaign is really fun and the game sells well and people figure out again that if you make a fun SP RTS players will come.

It's a deccent attempt but lack the atmosphere of C&C sadly.
It suffers from the 'knockoff syndrome'. There's no identity to any of the factions or events taking place - everything feels like an excuse to dig for resources and fuck shit up, something even Dune II felt like doing a better job at.

How much of the competition accomplishes more than that much? I’ll wait.

Well, to whoever wants to have anything better it may be worth the while, especially when there's a shit ton of clones that are basically a waste of time nobody has (including the scam that was Planetary Annihilation, TITANS and its upcoming sequel)

And if you're in dire need of examples, upcoming stuff like D.O.R.F. RTS is already looking like something that might make a difference, albeit getting there in the pace of the average indie title. The distinctive artwork and gui, its attention to detail and the destructible environments alone, already look like far more than most of the placeholder RTSes we're getting lately.

I have my eye on that. Destructible terrain is neat. RTS is ripe for complex terrain mechanics but nobody develops it that way. Destructible terrain, cover, infantry rock, dust bowls, cliff jumping, foliage… I’ve seen a few cool looking ideas.
