Do you ever think about how this affects your spiritual welfare?

what if we made a game that tricks perverts into going on an introspective journey of repentance

i think that would be a cool game

Do you ever think about how this affects your spiritual welfare?

Yeah, it's made it incredibly better than what it was before, absolutely.

Why do people make porn games that require two hands to play?

Two answers to this;

1) Much like Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, or many other series, having a sexual event be mentioned or sex be worked into the storyline doesn't automatically mean you should feel the desire to get off to it; sexuality should ideally be woven into storylines to increase the complexity of them and depth in the same way we've used violence, religion, drugs, and politics for millenia. Video games seem to be the only bastion left that doesn't exercise sexuality for storytelling, and a lot of these types of games are trying to change that, ours included.
2) You can just get to the sex scene, fap with one hand as it plays itself, then go back to gameplay with two hands. Alternatively, buy an auto-fleshlight device.

This looks revolutionary for a porn game

I do think we're making some pretty good stuff with this, I'm proud of it, but to also be fair, there are a good chunk of other western adult games doing some great stuff too; go check out Crisis Point: Extinction or Kincaid for two examples in the same vein as our game, or outside of it, Shady Lewd Kart is a pretty unique example (it's like Smash Bros Melee but with porn game main characters instead of Nintendo characters, and kart racing instead of a fighting game, but it's well done!)

I'm not above making fun of both myself and the idea of getting off/spending time getting off in general, so there are jokes poking fun at that within the game.

Those shows don't require me to use my hands or indeed in kind of interaction to watch them, neither one of them qualify as porn for a single sex scene. However, I've watched your trailer and your game is most certainly not just working a sex scene into places for the sake of story, especially if you're advertising over 100 different animations. Clearly, I am meant to be drawn to the idea of watching the character get it on in many different ways. So naturally, it is a major inconvenience if I have to set aside my controller every few moments to yank the crank and then pick it up again to say nothing of it becoming messy, that just disrupts the flow of the game. If I have to buy extra hard-ware to enjoy your game at its fullest then that's a dealbreaker.

You lost me, buddy.

I know this is probably shitposting but for the sake of the argument, you get off to every sex scene in Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, etc.?

Those shows don't require me to use my hands or indeed in kind of interaction to watch them, neither one of them qualify as porn for a single sex scene.

Now I want to scroll back here; why are they not considered porn? Surely some people like our friend above get off on them, so what separates two people having sex, fully naked, in Game of Thrones, from people having sex in a video game? Why is one considered porn and not the other? (This is rhetorical and I know the answer, I just want to see your response.)

However, I've watched your trailer and your game is most certainly not just working a sex scene into places for the sake of story, especially if you're advertising over 100 different animations. Clearly, I am meant to be drawn to the idea of watching the character get it on in many different ways.

Yeah, that's the initial hook; the actual amount of directly sexual content in the game, those 100 animations, probably makes up 5% of the game's content, tops, and that's being really liberal with it, considering that there's;
  • 250+ cutscenes and 120 databanks (e-journals), with less than 5% of them having sex scenes
  • 200+ characters/NPCs, with only about 5% of those, too, having sex scenes
  • 20 or so hours of voicework, with only about an hour or so of it dedicated to sex scenes
  • 40 endings, with only 5 or so of them having sex scenes
And so on.

When it comes into "working a sex scene into places for the sake of the story", there is a good deal of scenes that mention sexuality within the worldbuilding of the game, whether it be character's opinions, or events surrounding the laws within the in-universe government, things like that.

But actually direct showings of sex scenes in the trailer, those are a small fraction of the total content of the game.
That said, even the ones that mention sexuality without actual sex events going on, is probably in total another 10% on top of that existing 5% of blatant sex scenes.

We don't want to skimp on the gameplay, art, story, audio, etc. but we also want to weave the sex into all of those.

So the sex content as shown in the trailer is intended to entice people into playing the game; the actual story, gameplay, music, choices etc. are what's intended to keep them there beyond just fapping to it and forgetting.
Most of the discussion at this point on our Discord and other places has very little to do with the actual porn animations, tbh, so that combined with a lot of polls we've ran publicly show that there are people who do find games like this interesting beyond just fapping to them.
(Plus just how much people go nuts over the storyline/worldbuilding for Eastern games of this type again shows there's an audience for it.)

That said, we know there's also a good amount of the audience that does just play them for sex, and that's fine; that's why we've made most of the story optional and made it easy to access sex scenes.

So naturally, it is a major inconvenience if I have to set aside my controller every few moments to yank the crank and then pick it up again to say nothing of it becoming messy

Do you just cum on the walls or something? No kleenex, no socks? And are you a machine that gets off with no refractory period? :P

that just disrupts the flow of the game. If I have to buy extra hard-ware to enjoy your game at its fullest then that's a dealbreaker.

The thing about the automatic sex machine was a joke, but as far as disrupting the flow of the game, you can get all the scenes in a gallery, without losing, just for doing a few achievements per level that are skill/exploration based, no grinding and no fetch quests.
The game definitely isn't for everyone, don't get me wrong; I'm not trying to say that you have to like it or you're wrong, I'm just clarifying and trying to get you to consider a few different perspectives like why you would consider this game porn, but not Game of Thrones or Orange is the New Black.

Going back to that, IMO the reason most people consider those "art" and this "porn" is... honestly, almost entirely stigma.
Both those series and this game have;
  • people discussing plot points while the sex happens to advance the plot
  • nude characters having sex and them getting off making sexual noises, etc.
  • the sex as a way to hook people into the series/game, but not as a main feature when you actually start playing/watching it
  • the sexual content amount as very, very little within the game/series itself as a whole.
I think that with games like Cyberpunk 2077 and others, the stigma that automatically has people consider "nudity/sex in games = porn game" but "nudity/sex in television = not a porn show" will start to break down to the point that people become more accepting of games with full blown sex and nudity in them, and as a result wouldn't automatically associate them with porn, which is something we're slowly striving for also; we won't reach it with this game, and probably not even the next or the next game after that, but eventually we plan to.
This game's still a learning experience for us, basically.

It wasn't specifically made to get someone's rocks off. It has a sex scene in it, it is not all about sex. I also can't help what people beat off to.

Only 5%? Damn, you wanna make games or you wanna make porn? Because that sounds low on paper.

Do you just cum on the walls or something? No kleenex, no socks? And are you a machine that gets off with no refractory period

There's the rub heh, rub, having to stop to clean up because you need both hands on the keys, or controller is an inconvenience, easier if you already have one hand ready with appropriate implements. If the game is good I'm sure I'll want to get back to it after blowing my load or else that's even more disruptive. The porn should flow as well as the actual gameplay.

Being able to load it all up in a gallery is convenient for after the fact.
Games like Mass Effect and DA had "sex scenes" and no one thought of them as pornographic, at least I don't think. I don't know what people are going to think of Baldur's Gate 3, but I assume part of it is the idea is that the show/game isn't focused on sex, it's more as an added bonus or logical conclusion to a romance story. If you're trying to hook people with how many sex animations you have and it only makes up 5% of the game some people may go away feeling cheated. I couldn't tell you for sure because I haven't played it, though I'll say that pitching the game that way in the trailer will make people think of it as a porn game even if the porn content is relatively small.

Right, and neither is our game. To chain from this response into your next question;

Only 5%? Damn, you wanna make games or you wanna make porn? Because that sounds low on paper.

Games, absolutely, but with sexuality added to them. This is intended to be a full fledged game with (some of this requoted from last post);
  • 40 endings
  • 20 hours of voicework for 200+ characters
  • 50 powerups
  • 100s of cutscenes with tons of choices that affect other cutscenes, like Detroit: Become Human or Until Dawn on steroids
  • A personality system that raises/lowers points in one of 8 values, which then opens/closes choices in other scenes
  • The order of scenes and events you do in the game alters other events/scenes
  • etc.
We're even putting in a SFW mode that strips out all the NSFW content so people can stream it; it's also because it's one of the most frequent things we get asked to do, as people have enough fun playing it as a regular game that they want to suggest it to friends but can't because of the NSFW content.

npc_databank_cutscene_links.png

Here's an example of all the cutscene/databank links in the game involving NPCs only; reading databanks will shift your knowledge/responses available for cutscenes, cutscenes can also affect other cutscenes, who you kill/don't kill and when you kill them affects events, etc.
This doesn't count variants in cutscenes either, just what ones affect other ones.
There'll be about another 100 cutscenes on top of these that are exclusively between main characters or other important characters, or bosses, CG sequences, etc.

If the game is good I'm sure I'll want to get back to it after blowing my load or else that's even more disruptive. The porn should flow as well as the actual gameplay.

The porn flowing as well as the gameplay is is an interesting issue, because while I do agree with you, the idea of "sex on loss" is a major, major thing in both the East and West for these kinds of games.
We actually asked if people wanted sex only on victory, and overwhelmingly something like 95% of people on polls both publicly and on Patreon said they would be upset if the sex content was only on victory.

So to compromise, we divided the sex content up between "sex on loss", "sex on exploration", and "sex on victory", so we could try to please all parties.

Future games that we've got planned will likely integrate the actual sex into the gameplay better, but we wanted to start with something well known trope-wise and mechanics-wise, which would be familiar to people that are familiar with adult games, which leads into the next response...

It's more as an added bonus or logical conclusion to a romance story.

This is mainly where the sex in our game is at; all the sex scenes are the logical conclusion to the worldbuilding and story we've setup. There's never any instances where the sex scenes break that internal logic; we even have some bosses have no sex scenes with the main character because there would simply be no logical reason they'd be interested in having sex with the MC.

So this is where the main misunderstanding I think is at in this conversation.
Right now, culturally in the West, adult games repeatedly have a stigma of being "low effort, poor story, just there for fap fuel and nothing else".

A lot of devs doing these games in the West though as of recent, ourselves included, want to make adult games that challenge that, and that show that you can have sex and sexuality in a game, and the game can be a fun, full-fledged game to play as well.

------------------------------------

To give a comparison, back in the 90's, Mortal Kombat came out and as a result everyone and their mother started doing violent video games where the only focus of the game was the violence, story, gameplay, audio, etc. be damned.
These games sold really well purely out of shock value, but over time, people just auto-assumed anything with violence in gaming = zero effort copy-paste Mortal Kombat rip-off.
Over time though, people started using violence in nuanced ways; they started using it as part of the worldbuilding, part of the character backstories, to create deeper, more believable character motivations and storylines.

That's what we're aiming to do with this game and future games moreso that we're making; we want people to get the impression that it's "just another ho-hum porn game, time to load it up and fap", and then a few minutes in;

"Wait, this has full voice acting? Okay, I guess that's pretty good--"
"Hold on, there's an actual plot? My choices actually change events in the game?"
"You actually have to solve puzzles in this? It's not just hold right to win?"
"WTF, there's 40 endings and a personality-altering system?"

etc.

And then hopefully, after playing it, they can come off the experience and say "huh, I guess adult games DON'T have to be just fap-fuel to play and throw away 5 minutes later!"

------------------------------------

I don't expect that to start some sort of cultural revolution of course; it's just a tiny stepping stone, but it's one step towards people taking adult content in games more seriously which would enable people to make games where people would treat them like Orange is the New Black or Game of Thrones.

(Speaking of Orange is the New Black, they did the same method; they would often advertise just nothing but sex scenes within the show to hook people, despite those scenes being fairly rare across the show's run. It definitely hooked me in; came for the sex scenes, stayed for the entire show's run for the story and characters. That's the same method we're doing here.)

Good idea, I've seen many people who have been (forcefully) exposed to the glory of Rance and his Sengoku and they loved it.

I was planning to review the full game. I actually briefly tried an early version of your game a year or so ago, but I believe it was rather bare-bones compared to what the release version is going to be.

Good luck with the rest of the development!

Would you be capable and willing to build in some opt-in function where players can share which ending they got and whether or not they picked the SFW version of the game? That might be useful data for you and a fun read for the rest of us.

Oh okay, just curious; the demo you played, was it one where there was gravity reversal in a laboratory of sorts, or was it in a volcano with demons?
And thanks a lot for the well wishes!

We'd love to do something like this, but we likely won't just because online connectivity, even if it's opt-in, leads to a lotttt of paranoid/freaked out people when it comes to adult content, afraid that you're saving their data to expose them to their wives/girlfriends etc. that they've played this game.
Also, unfortunately, the ending data would be a bit skewed because the SFW version prevents you from getting 14 of the 21 "true" endings, because of the way the endings are accessed;
  • Your choices and actions through the game add/subtract points from one of seven core values (Optimism, Pessimism, Pacifism, Violence, Kindness, Hatred, and Justice)
  • Those points then are checked for some cutscenes to change your available choices or how the cutscene plays out (ex. if your highest trait is Kindness, an enemy might give you a chance to speak your mind; if it's Justice however, they know you'll only consider facts, not opinions.)
  • Most importantly though, upon getting the "true ending" for the game, the variant on the true ending (all of which are fairly different from one another) will use the following checks;
    • First, it checks which value you have the highest amount of points in for the "base" ending.
    • Then, it checks your sexuality value, an eighth value; this value goes up if you trigger sex scenes intentionally, and goes down if you reject sex.
      • A value from 0-100 or so = neutral sexuality, 100+ = "positive" sexuality, and negative numbers = negative sexuality.
    • Your base ending has three significantly different variants based on if you have neutral, positive, or negative sexuality.
So given the context of how sexuality can shift the ending, since there's no way to affect the sexuality value during SFW gameplay, it unfortunately would get rid of 14 of those 21 true endings.
So, that'd skew the data a good amount, of course.

Eh, fair enough. I recently saw the chart of results that was made for Mass Effect 3 again and this came into mind.

Yeah, and a few hours later someone of StudioDogCucker posted a statement on their Discord that they don't support Arch and distance themselves from him. Because if you're making a game where women can get fucked by a monstrous dog, showing off how woke you are sure is a priority.

Trying to appease the crowd which rages when somebody is fine with their intact genitals seems like a bold move when making a porn game.

What do you expect from someone whose game markets itself with "You can watch your waifu get fucked by alien beasts right in front of you!"? It's a game by cucks, for cucks, so of course there's going to be cucking going on on their social media.

Yeah, because the people who go EVERYTHING I DON'T LIKE IS NAZIS are likely not going to buy your X-Coomer game anyway. And they keep calling the girls "waifus" so it's not like they're even PRETENDING to have a modicum of class, unlike certain other people in this thread.
