If you don't own the originals or plan to replay them a lot, sure. There are some noticeable improvements with the engine and some new features for mods to take advantage of.

btw I find it hilarious that they are discounting the EE games by 70% meanwhile SoD is a completely undiscounted $20. There must be some kind of arrangement where they have to give bioware a big cut for BG1/2 but they keep everything on SoD.

I think playing the original versions is the way to go. EE mangles far too much for the few conveniences it offers (quick loot being the main one). BG is a fine looking game, but the EE looks atrocious. Plus, playing BG1 with BG2 kits is just silly. /Lilura

Everything the EE does was already acomplishable with mods a decade or two before the EE was a thing anyways. Buying the EE is just paying for mod recreations and worse graphics.

EE looks fine if you set it to non-retarded settings (lock zoom level at default, disable sprite outlines and use nearest neighbor scaling).

As far as improvements go, they added an option in the config files to show AoEs when targetting spells which I quite like. There's also minor AI improvements like highlighting which characters can use which items when you have it selected (also highlights who can learn a spell on a scroll). Saving and loading is actually instant.

Regarding mods, SCS has an EE-only option to let you fully respec companions class/kit combinations from level 0 including dual and multiclass combinations which is fun to take advantage of on replays. There's also the Bubb spell menu which is insanely useful for cleric/mages or wild mages or anyone generally having a lot of spells that are annoying to scroll through, along with some other UI mods not available for non-EE.

Anyone tried putting girdle of sex change on beamdog's trans character? I imagine either nothing happens or a black hole appears.

Your speakers emit a screeching noise until you find a gay BIPOC and prostrate yourselves before them for being a white fucking scum

Elminster spawns and begins to lecture you on how you are being trans-oppressive. Your only available responses are 4 variations of agreeing but the game still crashes immediately afterwards because its what you deserve

Unless you're on VPN, SJW militia will raid your house within 15 minutes and their rainbow mage will knock you out with prismatic spray and then will cast your ass off into non-existence with ultimate lvl 9 spell, CANCELLATION

If you pass the saving throws, they will probably cast 'summon antifa IV' and just beat the shit out of you.

And now I want a game like this.

I mean, all are pretty nice and similar, but Imoen and Jaheira look like inter-dimensional doppelgangers indeed.

Merida, again
Viconia's portrait in BG1 doesn't look like a Drow at all.
Yeah, she definitely improved in BG2. But I used a mod when I played BG1 so the portrait was the same as BG2

She doesn't? To me her BG1 portrait looked like most Drow depictions in fantasy art from the early 90s and 80s. BG2 looked more clean, mainstream and pornish. I also prefer her BG2 portrait, but I would often swap stock portraits for random old school D&D art.

I wish Elminster would just go away...
Killing him gets you 26,000XP--every time you do it. There are 4 opportunities to do it, but I can only recall 3 at the moment. In vanilla you have to rely on skeletons or a lucky wand of paralyzation, but with mods (BGW, Tutu, EE) you can kill him pretty easily with the Imp familiar shapeshifted into a sword spider.
