Not sure I understand this sentiment—of course genre terms are fuzzy in the beginning, when the examples which determine the genre are first being created. It's only after there is some agreement that such-and-such games are examples of this or that genre do genre classifications become more rigid (and rigidity of this sort is fine, since this is how nearly all language works imo).

Are there any roguelike blobbers?
Where your @ is a party, and a single D is a pack of Ancient Multi-Hued Dragons?

So the D pack breaths on the @ party, kills the party mage, you can't cast magic spells anymore till the cleric in your party raises the mage.
Anywho, always hated the ugliness of FPS blobbers despite loving the party dungeon delving mechanics; thought it'd look better with bird's eye-view ASCII.

Amazingly, IIRC, development for it started on the Extremely Venerable SharpX68000---quite a path it has walked all these years.

A weird mystery dungeon showing up on Steam due to the Tokyo Games Show.

Calls itself a "Dungeon agricultuarization rogue-like", which ... ???, but Japanese devs don't seem to misuse the term as much, so maybe it's worth keeping an eye open over.

Speaking of genre...
Consider the following: Roguelikes are a different genre from RPGs entirely.
Take HyperRogue for example. It's apparently a Roguelike but not a RPG.

It's all a clusterfuck. And beside that, a lot of 'roguelites' are actually amazing despite not meeting the strict standards we impose. Best thing you can do is really ignore genre as much as possible and take games as individual experiences (esp. with competent devs).

Guild is not a blobber, but it's a roguelike in which you control a variety of characters. *bandlike

From the readme:
Guild is a RPG (role-playing game) in which you control a group of young
adventurers, out to prove themselves. They explore dungeons, slay monsters,
find useful equipment and treasure.

Guild is unusual among roguelike games, because instead of playing a solo
adventurer, you control an entire group. At any given time you have direct
control of one of the characters; the rest will follow you and make
themselves useful. You can give the other characters orders ("follow me!"
"shoot that goblin!" "run for your life!"), or you can switch to directly
controlling one of them.

This version of Guild is fully playable and will take some hours to
complete even once you know the ropes. It covers the first few chapters of
your adventurers' careers. At this stage your characters cannot advance
past 5th level - this will be possible in later releases.

Pretty cool. I'll give it a shot.
Thanks.

I haven't played it much, so I'd like to see anything you have to say about it while or after you give it a try.
Frankly, it reminded me of an idea I had for similar roguelike called "Guildmaster". Where you play the titular role and hire various adventurers to run all sorts of increasingly difficult dungeons (either controlling the adventuers manually or automated through a type of Angband Borg implementation). The loop is that your initial team goes on dives, collects treasure and xp (which you can equip your team or sell), you build your guild and team and do harder dungeons.

This is dope. The site says to email the developer for the source code. Has anyone done that and would be willing to share the source, if they received it?

Why would Caverns of Xaskasian II cause an unbreakable black screen that requires a hard PC restart to fix?

a RL inspired by Shin Megami Tensei. You can collect monsters you fight and add them to your party.
