Quick question, if anyone knows off the top of their head. Do melee weapon bonuses stack with the Ghoul's claw upgrades?
iirc claw-specific traits don't affect non-claw damage output (e.g. for melee weapons), but melee traits stack with claw traits for a combined increase in melee damage

Thanks to this thread for introducing me to Infra Arcana. Best thing I've come across in a long time.

Is it that good? Played one of the first versions like 5? 6? years ago. Failed miserably. Scared with difficulty to this day.

I'm going to reply to this post with the sprite the game uses for a ghoul armed with a Winchester precision rifle.

Really though your enjoyment is kind of contingent on how much you love being chased down corridors by reanimated corpses only to reach a dead end and have your head punched in. I'm not much of a Lovecraft guy but the way this game handles dread and danger is pretty amazing.

Also, despite loving the ghoul in this game I'd recommend following everyone else's advice and playing an imperceptible rogue until the game clicks for you. When enemies are highlighted in blue they haven't seen you yet, lots of fun. Opening a door or making any sort of noise triggers them.

Well, what killed me is that I must avoid everyone, but that goes against exploration.
You get exp for seeing monsters, but also you shouldn't see them.
Welp... that broke my silly brain that also has a bit of OCD in it.

I just need to wrap my head around that, find a way to play it.

Imo ghoul with indomitable fury is the easiest class atm. Basically every class needs to invest in anti-insanity traits to allow more exploration. I usually can explore most of every level with most classes by the time I get courageous.

Though clairvoyant might be easier than ghoul depending on your playstyle.

For some reason Infra Arcana now lags about every minute or so for me, just freezes up completely, but the inputs still work so after 5-ish seconds it'll catch up and spring a bunch of queued moves. Can't figure what on earth is causing it to do that (tried hardware acceleration in options but that didn't resolve it).

I have a similar issue with the most recent official release, but it only happens infrequently for me.

Is non still an active member here?

That lag may be caused by dynamic loading of sound files. You can set them to pre-cache in the options and it should remove that lag.

Unfortunately this did not solve it. Such a strange issue, never seen anything like it in a roguelike they usually run flawlessly.

Ah, surprised at that. I was getting annoying stutters with it turned off.

Was surprised to get lag in a game with basically no graphics myself, I wonder what other amazing "optimizations" he has in there that manage to make it happen.

Could it be Microsoft Defender doesn't like the program for some reason? I had troubles like that more than once where a program running slow later turns out to be watched by Defender.

My opinion on Balatro after 80 hours - it's very overhyped / overrated.

At first I was really thrilled with the game, but already around 35 hours boredom started to emerge. I've seen everything by then.

A critical lack of variety. Same few jokers, same narrow strategies, same tedious play patterns. Repetitive in a very bad way.
Difficulty levels are more annoying then a challenge.

What's unbelievable to me is why this game hasn't been updated regularly? It wouldn't solve core issues, but could have helped prolong relevancy for some time.

My problem with Balatro is that having a deep run is dependent on RNG almost 100%. There's nothing you can do if you have a bad hand. I think these games need a bluffing mechanic similar to poker so the player can at least do something when they get a crappy hand.

i have 5 jokers left to unlock and i'll probably just stop before getting them all, it's not like there's a reason to grind out all the difficulties

i do think playing balatro made me better at MTGO which is funny

Version that you could download from official page is outdated.
You could assemble newest version from gitlab repository, which I
begged
did and now game is noticeble different.
I have file archived, could send it. Given that it was given to me, it may have some maleware, so check it out if you care for safety.

I could post changes summary fro that new version if you want.

Also, besides that - I wanted actually to ask to share experience on IA runs.
How for example you play occultist? I liked clairvoyance one, and invoker.
Clairvoyance seems to be powerful, but how to get him to lvl 4 (once) and 8 (not yet). What traits?

What about rogue? same, first I grab is either evasion then shock res traits or shock ones then evasion.
or maybe start with trasure hunter?
Ghoul is easier one I went with it as far as d9 I think.

Furthest I've gotten is with War Veteran piling in the anti-shock stats first, then melee. IA's stumped me a bit, though. I feel like I'm making zero progress in it.

Here's one out of nowhere... Mystery Dungeon gameplay + Resident Evil theme

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2005870/House_of_Necrosis/

House of Necrosis

You can playtest this now through NextFest.

About what you'd expect: a Shiren-like with Resident Evil aesthetics. Except you can boost weapons by using them and also upgrading them in the field. Like Shiren, I expect the gameplay loop to be to make further-and-further out runs, gently improving your gear and stockpiles until making runs for the ending.

Haven't played much of Occultist yet, still playing with prolonged life exorcist which seems very strong. Once you are rolling with a decent hammer, iron armour and a pile of spirit I tend to get incredibly overconfident and subsequently, dead.

Playing a kind of "leap frog" where every time you get a high score you switch class and try to get up there again is a pretty fun way to play this game.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.

Anyone ever give this one a shot? Didn't see it in the initial list. I've only played an hour or 2 and that was a while ago. Been meaning to get back into it but I forgot the systems and stuff. Def had an FF job system-esque thing going on.

The pixel art and vibes are cozy, man.

I played it for a little while before the DLC/etc came out. It felt a bit like a cross between Disgaea and Shiren. Lovely graphics. but it felt kind of easy and like there was more breadth than depth. That said, I never finished it, so maybe it ramps up as it goes.

I had the same impression, only played a couple hours then returned it. Hard to get a good read on these games that flood you with tutorials and easy content for hours to avoid scaring away morons.

lmao, that's how I delved to d19 - war vet+ shock res traits.
Yeah, game is hard.
