So bros, I tried several times to beat Ornstein Smough dudes by myself, got beaten, not pretty hard though and I became lazy and I wanted to get the lordvessel (and to see dat tits) asap so I decided to try summon some bros to help me out (didn't manage to do it before).

I've made a steam community topic, one bro answered me, I've summoned him, he played some chick in white clothes with magic missiles. Holy shit, every missile took about 15% of bosses health, while they were mostly busy kicking Solaire, I could only hit them a couple of times before they were dead.
:kingcomrade:
But now I feel awesome cause I can teleport and spend some time to farm stuff and upgrade stuff.

You beat O&S first time using help?

:rpgcodex:
Yes, and all of my sneaky fukin Russian friends, who played DaS, did the same:popamole:

If serious, man, I do not have that much time and will to try beating them by myself and there is 95% chance this will be my first and last walkthrough.

damn, man... way to ruin of the greatest moments in recent gaming history. there's very few moments of satisfaction that can rival beating O&S by yourself. the "no time" excuse is either bullshit or you don't enjoy the game enough to care. a damn shame :(

Meh, I kinda wish I'd summoned through my first playthrough. It's good for the community and it gives you a less faggy way to see how better players play than looking up Youtube videos with hilarious memes and Benny Hill music (I haven't coop'd with anyone truly incompetent on PC DS1, probably because it's an old game now).

I summoned solaire first time I beat O&S. It's a valid thing to do, stop being so elitist. Soon you'll start saying using lightning pine resin against gargoyles isn't cool.

Using Gold Pine Resin against Gargoyles is only something losers do.

of course it's valid, but it's nowhere near as satisfying beating them with the help of a mage chucking soul spears at them while you watch. why rob yourself of one of the best and most rewarding experiences? plus, solaire doesn't make that fight all that easier (he does some damage, but they get more health... when i summoned him, he rarely, if ever, survived the first phase.. unless they buffed him since the DLC). summoning is A-OK, it's fun and entertaining, i just would never recommend it your first time through to make the game a cakewalk (what's the point of playing a challenging game if you take away the challenge? that's not elitism, just common sense)

I do agree that summoning another player to do the fight for you is weaksauce and should be used as a last resort only.

Quite true, after all, the gravelord sword can't be enchanted ;)

I didn't know it'll be this way, I mean the chick the guy played looked fragile until she started killing big knights in one shot. It was my very first summoning a human player after all.

Now you make me feel ashamed:negative:

And I didn't use gold pine resin on gargoyles.

But you never know what type of player you'll get. On my first, abandoned playthrough as a Wanderer whose primary stats were Dexterity and Resistance :))), I summoned someone for the Gaping Dragon only to see him fall into the dragon's chasm, leaving me alone with a stronger boss. (I remember I persevered that time so it was even more rewarding ;))

I regret having got into the game so late. Honestly it was a mixture of my being busy and the advertising (its so hard) and community (we're so h4rdk0r) that put me off a bit.

Anyway about a week or two ago I completed it, it was actually...absurdly fun. I'd say my Dark Souls experience has been oddly lucky. I got great drops, sometime multiples: balder side sword, balder shield, full steel set, silver knight shield, each black knight dropped a weapon or a shield and so on.

I admit I was stuck on the Gargoyles for a good week or so at about 30-60 mins a day on average so, yeah. I finally did them in by pure accident Conversely O&S didn't go so hard for me. After about 4 times I managed to kill one of them....and then saw how the other one got more powerful. 2-3 times after than and I had downed Smough and then Orns. Kalameet I did first try (well, sort of, when I first went down he killed me like a bitch. Then I went to buy some big arrows from Gough and...well yeah), Artorias after 4-5.

It was fun. I did summon now and then (I think I learned about it too late) and it only enhanced the experience. Admittedly it still took me into the high double digits before I completed the game....

I tried to make a caster but it just wasn't as much fun. Also in retrospect I see my build was stupid, should have gone dex.

A lot of hardcore l33tfags in this thread. I'm willing to bet that half of those who are flexing their groin muscles over beating bosses "the difficult way" either did it with summons or with help from gamefaqs.

Nothing wrong with coop in my opinion. There simply aren't many games which get it right anyway. I'm a huge sucker for coop in games because I haven't had a steadily enjoyable experience with it since playing Doom over serial in my house. So when both DSs came along I would summon whenever I could and leave my sign wherever I went because the very height of the game for me was the moment when you got that summoning message and the nature of the game changed completely.

FWIW, I finished DeS in offline mode first and upon switching to multiplayer I got a feeling of all I had missed. Didn't make the same mistake for DkS so I abused the shit out of it. Whatever floats your boat.

I was only ever able to solo O&S with a greatshield. On my SL1 playthrough the best shield I could get was Balder +15. No matter how many times I tried I just couldn't dodge those fuckers. Ornstein is always ready to penetrate from behind when you're trying that one lucky hit on Smough. I managed to beat them with Solaire's help though.

Sorry to be a bit off-topic, but has the game become playable with kb+m?
Not more than it used to be I would say. The dsmfix fixes the shitty lockon, and you can rebind all the keys, but other than that it is the same.

KB&M is fundamentally fucked up in DS because it's just mapping WASD to be shitty 8-way digital controls for a highly analog movement system. There's no getting around it without having a completely alternate system like a pinned over-the-shoulder camera mode.

Thank you for the reply. Furthermore, are they aiming at improving the kb+m controls for DS 2?

The dsmfix also fixed the "reverse acceleration" there was going on (move the mouse slowly and it will seem like you have high mouse sensitivity, move it fast and the camera almost won't move).

For PvE it's way more than enough, I've never played PvP.

Meh. 8 directions is more than enough when you have free camera control. I never had issues with that part.

Watching that seemingly retarded bimbo talking about her boyfriend and taking care of O&S with a freaking wheel controler was inspiring...they should send the link to a japanese tv station "gaijin bimbo layeth the smackdown" news at 8

Bros, what are the most decent shields to upgrade? I'm looking towards 1 medium and 1 large.

And what's the most useful item made of Sif Soul?
