well, between the zwei, manserpent the gaxe and clubs, i think it's the best of the bunch to go lightning (IF he wants a lightning weapon, of course :)). the manserpent at +15 with 40 Str will do marginally less damage will being faster than a +15 zwei, while the gaxe and clubs will just deal more damage. it's good even regular, but i think it's a good thing to have a hard hitting lightning weapon in your arsenal, and out of all of those the zwei seems like the best candidate. but if he enjoys the moveset the best, than maybe it's worth considering going +15, yeah
I rely on your advice bro. I'll make a zwei ligtning and a manserpent fully upgraded for max damage/str scaling.

So is there anything else I can play on PC that has similar fundamentals to this (i.e. dual thumbstick move and camera setup) now that I'm sick of DS1 content? Devil May Cry 4 I guess? Zero chance of Demon Souls ever getting a port because Sony too right?

Actually, coming from the angle of the high level design of DS1 instead of the action controls, are there any good Metroidvanias for PC or emulation that aren't dumb snoozes like Metroid and SotN are that I could play with an arcade stick? edit - not that I want some ballbreaking Jap masochistic indie game or somehting, just something balanced to resist me slightly to about the same degree Dark Souls does

There's Distorted Travesty. Dunno how playable it is with an arcade stick though. I recall it requiring quite a few buttons. It's got some bite to it in some places anyways, certainly more than any of the castlevania games. Do note that unlike dark souls (which a blind person can mash their way through given enough armor and vit and estus) this will require some actual dexterity on the higher difficulties. You need to dodge shit and chain attacks and stuff. Never did get around to finishing it, but it never really disappointed me either. Just found it at a time when tons of other awesome shit came out too and got distracted by new shiny things. There's 2 (3? I dunno if he finished working on the 3rd) of them too, and iirc they're all free, so give them a try, the later ones are a bit different since they were all made by 1 guy and he obviously tried to improve the way things work as he went along.

Uploader of that also has a trailer for the 2nd game and an interview with the dev.

Eh, I think what I like about the difficulty model in Dark Souls is that generally the skills required to pass shit are very simple and easy, but you absolutely have to develop them. Like most people that don't play these kind of console games much Ornstein and Smough were a huge brick wall to me at first, but I eventually got it. When I got back to them on an SL1 game I beat them first or second try, because I'd gotten the basic idea of the fight (keep both of them visible at all times, use the pillars/ruined pillars to keep their big rush moves from having any teeth, never get cornered or you will certainly get stunlocked to death). Playing stuff like Metroid or SotN you never need to develop shit; you can generally just lifebar smash whatever. I could make those games arbitrarily hard if I wanted by speedrunning or whatever, but I'd much rather be challenged in measured doses in a designed and narrative experience (or just play a fighting game against humans).

Difficulty is just a means to some little pleasure of figuring stuff out, balanced against the tedium of practice (or even the pain of lacking ability, which fighting games give me sometimes), not an end unto itself.

Bro, what do I do with boss souls I've got by far (iron golem, butterfly and spider witch)?

Any useful weapons for my build or I just can spend for souls to level up|spend?

moonlight soul you can consume for souls cause the shield is shit since the nerf, and the spear you probably won't use cause it's an Int weapon.

from Quelaag's soul you can make the Furysword if you want and have 13Dex and are good at holding onto your humanity (it deals quite a bit of fire damage with 10 humanity and it's pretty fast with decent reach and low weight, an excellent backup elemental weapon overall), but don't go out of your way levelling up Dex if you're not already at 13 (or more) since you can make other chaos weapons with relative ease (the blacksmith is in the catacombs and the ember is on the lava past the taurus demons in demon ruins).

as Drago said, dragonboner fist (iron golem) is pretty cool, but that's only because you can do a shooo-ryuken with it, otherwise it's not a good weapon. the other weapon from the golem soul is quite ineresting: it's a small axe that weighs and almost deals damage like a greataxe, and while slower than other regular axes it's still faster than greataxes, plus it has that awesome iron golem wind attack with the 1HR2. it's a fun weapon, imho

edit: manserpent is a good weapon, and easily one of the top3 pure Str weapons, just don't expect to stunlock anybody in PvP. moonlight is definitely top-tier because it's pure magic, the fastest greatsword and those ranged R2, and claymore is excellent but it's a quality weapon (i.e. 27Str/40Dex is required to unlock the full potential of that great moveset)

If you want to greatsword it up you go Claymore or Moonlight Greatsword. Man Shitpent gitgud is mediocre in comparison.
STR scaling bro

Ok, thx for this!

My dex is 12 (BUT DON TEL ANY1 I LVLED THAT UP THO), I've made it to equip the first bow to get drake sword in the very beginning. Oh yeah, I don't want much variety of weapons, just need 1 or 2 good ones.

Won't go PvP, not my kind of thing.

Oh, BTW you advised to make a lightning zwei, can you explain what are the advantages of making it lightning?

as has been pointed out in the discussion between Elwro and myself, it's good to have a hard hitting lightning weapon in your arsenal, and out of the ones you have it's the best candidate because it's more of a "quality" than "str" weapon, but if you really enjoy using it (it's a cool moveset), feel free to go regular +15 with it cause you won't lose that much damage

Borelli
yeah, "regular" would've been a better choice of word :)

Many bosses are weak to lightning.

Am I right in saying that Manus and Kalameet are weak to lightning? Or at least more susceptible to it than the other elements? I know that fighting them with pure magic and moonlight greatsword was a right old slog, and fire didn't seem to help much either.

Yeah, I think I wanted to get this kind of answer!

So you can make a +10 sword a lightning sword and than make it a +5 lightning sword - does this work this way?

Oh yeah and I have a question - when do I go to the DLC content?

yes, it works like that. only take it to +4 for now, 'cause Tittie slabs aren't that common :)

the DLC can be tackled as soon as you place the lordvessel and open up Duke's (the first golem there drops the pendant to access the DLC). depending how confident you are in your skills (if you're good at dodging you'll have little trouble with most stuff, a well upgraded shield with good stability (70 or more) will also help). not being overlevelled makes it more fun (SL 80-90 should be high enough for your first time). i would recommend to go there after you finish up all of the other stuff, 'cause it's more "endgame" than all the other "endgame" areas, especially bosses, in the rest of the Souls franchise... and be sure to have a +14/15 weapon with you ;)

Oh okay, thx!

I'll visit the area when I'm somwhere near the end of the game (just as I thought). And I'm too far from SL 80-90 right now. I'm in Anor Londo now, just passed the archers and soon I'm going to visit Ornstein/Smough dudes and get a dose of suffering and despair:codexisfor:

So bros, I tried several times to beat Ornstein Smough dudes by myself, got beaten, not pretty hard though and I became lazy and I wanted to get the lordvessel (and to see dat tits) asap so I decided to try summon some bros to help me out (didn't manage to do it before).

I've made a steam community topic, one bro answered me, I've summoned him, he played some chick in white clothes with magic missiles. Holy shit, every missile took about 15% of bosses health, while they were mostly busy kicking Solaire, I could only hit them a couple of times before they were dead.
:kingcomrade:
But now I feel awesome cause I can teleport and spend some time to farm stuff and upgrade stuff.
