There's not actually any official announcements about GFWL shutting down. I suspect what will happen is they'll shut off stuff like the instant messaging features of GFWL and let cheap functions that aren't using any significant server infrastructure (namely: old shitty PC ports that have about a thousand concurrent players on Steam with all heavy lifting done P2P) keep nominally functioning for a couple of years, always without doing anything like maintaining the frontend for new versions of Windows (I think Win 8.1 is breaking the GFWL stuff's functionality already). Then it will quietly break for good without any Steamworks porting and the game will be unplayable without cracks and other modding.

And consequently will get removed from Steam...

It's not just bosses. Right here for example, I get a constant 15 fps

I don't think my settings are wrong? I'm not downsampling, the resolutions ingame and in dsfix match, AA is off, etc

So did you unlock FPS or not? Also, I don't recommend setting DOF resolution to higher than 810, that might hit performance quite hard too.

Should I? I left it alone since if I can't get 30 fps I probably won't get 60 fps either. The DOF resolution is the default (540?)

Does it really? Unlocking the framerate in the Dsfix.ini crashed my game on startup the few times I tried it.

Unlocking FPS fixed all my performance problems, it never went down below 30 after that.
Well I unlocked it to 60 and the game seems a lot smoother now and there are fewer dips, although they still happen. Mostly the game seems to lock onto 30 fps (??) occasionally going above and sometimes below

The problem with this is that the FPS changes also change the way the game feels and controls. It's just... weird to play.

I don't know guys, is there a way to get DS1 working with moose and keyboard as well as DS2 or is this just a lost cause? Seems like a nice game, possibly better than DS2, but like in the ArmA games it feels like I'm fighting the performance and controls more than the enemies themselves.

Potatojohn I have had the same problems as you, no fix unfortunately, game was sometimes unplayable due to the fpa dips. Funny enough, the not removed from inventory version runs flawless for me.

I already told you the first time don't set FPS limit too high, go for 35-40. I recommend unlocking only to improve performance, not for FPS much higher than 30.
And mouse and keyboard just doesn't suit Dark Souls games so I don't know why would you even want to play them that way.

Menu will never control as nice, but the rest of the game works better with kb+m than ds2 imo.

I have pretty good luck with Moose and Squirrel with those settings. Perhaps swap out keyboard for Squirrel.

So guys, I left this game halfway through almost a year ago, I think, because of technical issues. Should I pick it up or should I restart it? I'm afraid I won't be able to grasp the story at all. Is there a synopsis online or something to help me out?
Also what about missables? Is there a guiade that won't spoil the story but could help me not to lose anything missable?

For story, it's probably better to start over, since it's presented in bits and snippets that don't add up if you took a long break.

You get almost no story at all from the dialogues in the game. Most of the things you get are from the item descriptions. The story through the game is pretty basic, most of the interesting things are found it the lore.

You better read the wiki to find the most interesting lore parts.
http://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Dark+Souls+Wiki

I've made it this way: I walked through the location, killed the boss and after that read all the lore. It's more focused and better compiled together in the wiki.

I'd say that without the materials I won't get anything about the story and the world of the game out of my playthrough.

What am I supposed to do with the capra demon as a shieldless caster? I last about two seconds into the fight, then the dogs stun me and finally the demon deliver a one-hit KO.

Roll away. Get rid of the dogs ASAP. The Capra will be easier to strafe around and dodge after that.

I'm not sure you'd want to use a shield anyway. The rapid dog attacks would probably drain your stamina in no time.

I was getting wrecked by Capra for a good 2 hours, every time I entered the fog door he did the immediate jump attack. EVERY. TIME.

All I can think is the RNG was set to jump attack for that play session. I restarted the PS3 finally and got the he walks up and swing attack.

Another time I cheesed him by throwing dung over the wall without entering the fog door at all. you tube it.

Just suicide rush the stairs and take any attempt to kill a dog if you see it (even if it means you have to die). Alternatively, if you're not averse to exploits there may be things you can do on the friendly side of the wall of fog to influence the battle.
