Ok, fuck this game. :P Went to explore the depths a bit and made it to the gaping dragon that I could kill almost even on my first try, if not for the fact that I got cursed on my to beat him a second time. Having only 50% of my health doesnt do me good and is just fucking annoying. Now the only way to cure that is to search New Londo for this healer guy, really? Shit like that (those status effects) are so fucking annoying to me, especially with those ghosts there that sometimes surprise bittsecks you in huge numbers from behind with this "scissor" attack. The undead merchant #2, at that small sewer area near Firelink Shrine also sells anti-curse itens form 6k souls. Or you can use a Rare Sacrifice Ring, that breaks curses when you die...

You can also relieve the curse through an item, buyable from the undead merchant on the shortcut to the depths, or for half that price from the dude in the church bell tower.

If it's any consolation, Demon's Souls would have to deal with 50% max health every time you died.

I have to say game is very good with ps3 controller, with kb+mouse it is kinda bad(unplayable for me honestly), but with kb-only it is playable, but much better overall with controller. That said everything other about the port is good.
As for the game, it is superb, i already stated that about demon souls what is good, and most of it applies here also. I also get that kings quest vibe, of searching hidden stuff, unlocking paths etc.

you did have that ring though which would mitigate it much. To like maybe 20% only.

At the cost of a ring slot, of course. Can't remember any +HP boosters in DS, but in DkS losing that extra ring slot means losing +25% HP/Stamina/Equip load for me, which means you really haven't fixed the problem.

Also in DS dying too much made your world black and then your max HP went down to 40%. trolololol

Would it be worth waiting for the devs/modders to fix any issues rather than starting right now, especially considering I don't have a gamepad?
you can play it with keyboard to decent level of precision. But consider buying controller it is kinda cheap

it looks and runs better with every new version of DSFix so waiting can't hurt

and you'll still need a gamepad because it's unplayable with M&K imo (certain masochists disagree though)

@Solar: On the way from depths to firelink shrine there's a vendor that helps you with that (or the guy bellow top bell, for half price).

Keyboard only is better than gamepad in this game. You need minimal turning if you don't fight the autocamera and precision is way more important than speed. Also you can run and turn without cramping your hand.
Had another problem (my 360 gamepad could be broken I guess though it only manifested in DS), it randomly stops moving at fullspeed while the stick is all the way forward.

Thanks for the tips bros! I uncursed myself and defeated the dragon. Summoned some phantom (Solaire or what his name is) but he was completely useless during the fight and died quickly. Is he permadead now? With the souls I got from the dragon I will buy me this anti venom ring, from what I have read it is really needed later on. I also have 8 humanity now and increased drop chance, is there any way to farm some of these shards? Those blobs near the depths bonfire sometimes drop them but its pretty rare..

Keep in mind keys (but not mouse buttons) can be reassigned. For some reason various keys can't be assigned in game, but can through editing the config file. Until the mouse is fixed you are probably better off going keyboard only.

Titanite is flat out buyable from Andre for 800 souls apiece, probably easiest to get it that way. Large Titanite is dropped very often from a certain enemy in the next area. That will be enough to get you up to a +10 weapon/shield.

Doesn't large also drop from those boring slimes in Depths? The ones right in front of bonfire.
Regarding that picture, G (back arrow) also shows short descriptions for entries in inventory/equipment/status screens.

Yep, these were the ones I meant. I got killed and lost the humanity again anyway.

Which particular enemy do you mean in the next area, Average Manatee ? None of my armor pieces or weapons is above +4 :/

Slimes drop both small and large shards, but horrible drop rate for each. The slugs in Blighttown seem to have something like a 30% drop rate for large shards. I'd estimate slimes at something like 2-5% drop rate for small or large shards. I'm assuming 10 humanity of course.

If you have any amount of souls you should definitely be at least +5, since you can flat out buy the titanite from Andre for cheap.

Armor upgrading is pretty meaningless for the most part. The protection doesn't do much except against very weak attacks. Poise is what's important but it can't be upgraded. Do absolutely upgrade your shield though, high stability is king.

In hindsight it was a waste of time farming the slugs and slimes even with the ring. Much faster to farm souls in certain spots and just buy the common ores.

You can only buy small shards from Andrei, the elite knight armor I am using requires Big shards. :/ And yeah, upgrading the shield is always what I do first, I need some green shards for it though. Wonder when I will find some "cooler" armor, like all you bros have on your screenshots. :P BTW - to upgrade this Dragon Kite sword I am using, I need a "dragon head stone" or something like that. Where do I get this from?

Haven't really found a good "farming spot" for souls either, yet.

Ah, and btw - those human enemies in the black root garden (after unlocking the gate with one of Andreis items) rape me hard again. Is it just me being too stupid for this game again or are they just on a high level?

Hurray! Did Blighttown, rang the second bell, helped a few guys with jolly cooperation on Queelag (Super duper easy, didn't even get hit when I killed her myself, and the first time I was summoned by someone I basically soloed the whole thing for him) and made my way back to Firelink only to find the fire's out, mute chick is dead, gold armor dork is missing, and THIS TERRIFYING MOTHERFUCKER APPEARED.

Probably gonna hoof it to the open gate now. Plus I wanna hit up Andre and see about upgrading my gear more.

What kind of armor and shield is that?

That would be one such farming spot. They raped me too first time I went there, but some levels later and with the lightning spear they were cake.

Though I wouldn't recommend grinding too much, as the game might become too easy and boring later on.

Armor always requires 1 size higher upgrade material I think. Not sure though, I hardly ever check. Dragon scales are generally found in hidden chests or by killing huge dragon-like monsters, and it's pretty rare too. Look into getting a normal weapon with normal upgrades. Keep in mind that the Dragon weapons are in fact far weaker then their damage stats appear. Since they deal both physical and fire damage, they get reduced by enemy defenses twice.

If you have a non-broken weapon in your hands then it is always you being too stupid in the game. Everything can be beaten.

It is a harder area than most of the areas you are facing though. Fighting multiple quick enemies tends to be the more challenging of encounters in the game (there's a reason Capra and Smough and Ornstein are major stumbling blocks).

Did you seriously spend 20k souls on Andre's item? Damn man. That's like a +7 or +8 worth of souls in upgrades there (once you get access to the merchant who sells large titanite).

You can make it back so quickly though. Clearing the first half of that area will net you 20k souls if you can manage it.

Also, protip: one of the enemies there does not respawn and drops one of if not THE best bow in the game. Shoving everyone off a cliff, not such a great idea.

farm those slimes until you have enough to get your shields/weapons to +6 so that you can get to Andre and ascend them before going to Blighttown so that you can farm the slugs in lower bttown to get some (all? if you have the patience...) of your equipment to +10 (and/or armours to +6)

Slimes drop both small and large shards, but horrible drop rate for each. The slugs in Blighttown seem to have something like a 30% drop rate for large shards. I'd estimate slimes at something like 2-5% drop rate for small or large shards. I'm assuming 10 humanity of course.

high defence can have an impact. you have better chances of survival vs quelaag (for example) with a +6 pyro armour than with a +9 elite knight set

and the slimes (like the slugs) drop only large and green titanite.

you'll get a dragon scale soon enough, but don't waste it on the drake sword 'cause even fully upgraded it becomes obsolete rather soon. plus, there are better weapons out there to spend your scales on (since they're fairly rare and they're quite expensive to upgrade with 10k for every tier)

What kind of armor and shield is that?

eastern armour, garg helmet, knight (or elite knight?) hands, black knight shield

armours don't require "1 size higher material". they go only up to +10 (1-3 tit, 4-6 large tit, 7-9 chunks, 10 slab) and don't need blacksmiths for ascension. and no dragon weapon deals physical + fire damage (you're confusing them with demons souls ;)), they're all pure physical (with one notable exception.. MLGS) but most of them don't scale and usually give some resistance bonuses (something like for example +50 fire resist or whatever...)
