Was talking about weapons. Spells are always cheesy (easy to dodge anyway). And moonlight sword is kind of an outlier..

Allow me to revise my statement then:

Even the worst offensive spell is awesome and rapey compared to that breath attack. Especially since the int requirement on it means it's going to rape by default, unlike soul arrows, which are going to do fuck all if you have 10 int.

I've never tried out the dragon breath attack, but I hear that it was mostly useful for draining stamina from shield users when they tried to turtle behind their shields. Dunno if it works, though. Kinda doubt it. And I don't understand why you are comparing WDB damage with 50 int to a Soul Arrow with 10 int.

It's more useful for glitching IIRC.

Edit: oops lol not the magic spell.

There's some weird shit you can do with it since it moves along the terrain, but the main problems of the spell is that it's slow cast and lacks homing. 20 charges is moot since you'll be blasting anything with 1-2 spells, bosses included, with the Crystal spells and bonfires are everywhere so you'll never run out of spells.

Err, I wasn't talking about the White Dragon Breath spell.

I was talking about the item that turns your head into a dragon and lets you shoot fire.

Ah. In that case what kind of glitching are you talking about?

Because there's no such thing as white dragon breath with 10 int, and no reason to cast soul arrow if you have 50?

WDB rapes things. All sorcery rapes things at that point, but there's no such thing as WDB that isn't rapey. Soul arrows aren't rapey at all when you first get them. Decent sure, but not the kind of thing that one shots everything you see. Dragon greatsword/axe falls into the same category. It's a shit weapon, but it hits like a truck if you can wield it, unlike say, an unupgraded great scythe.

They cannot get rid of backstabs. Backstab is essential. Else everyone will stack up poise and keep going for slower weapons, spam humanity/estus/sorceries. Currently, you can punish people who do that. Without backstab - it's gg.

Backstab's problem is that it's too damn easy to do and that it makes so much damage no matter what target's doing.

The problem is that once you have a decent shield you might as well be invulnerable in Dark Souls. Anything that isn't a backstab will do about 10 damage to a blocking player.

And it's not like there's stamina drain for blocking :?

Also, seconding vageta's channel for quality commentary + footage. Great player.

Other than combustion and black flame, I dunno what to say. Get good? Wrath of God can be hard to deal with too but I've only personally experienced it being used to troll people off cliffs. All of these are still eminently blockable if you have a good shield and long endurance bar.

All of the other spells have cast times long enough that you should easily be able to dodge. If you are using a huge weapon with long recovery time against a spell caster dodging around waiting for you to commit, you are effectively deciding to commit suicide. The only reason to die to them in a normal environment is lag, and if you are lagging just about anything can kill you anyway.

"If you're a Dark Souls fan, you don't care about the quality of animations and stuff [12:30]"

The biggest problem with Dark Souls has ALWAYS been animations/invincibility frames etc. Animations are usually the most important part of the game, since they define the meta/irrelevancy of anything combat oriented. Demo reviewers should be stabbed with thumbtacks every time they start doing little editorials.

There's other fun uses for White Dragon Breath too, like the fact it's the ONLY spell that can be used to reliably snipe enemies beyond their "KILL EVERYONE WITHIN THIS CIRCLE" area (since Breath has a really long range, and it's easy to aim manually). In Tomb of the Giants, I ended up not having to fight the skeleton dogs at all because they died from one cast (sometimes multiple dogs at a time, since the Breath just passes through enemies and keeps on going). Breath is probably the best bread n butter offensive sorcery at the endgame against non-rolling enemies, as it has good damage and an extremely high number of casts for such damage. Now, it's less useful against anything that moves around much or is airborne (which generally means bosses are out of the question), and it is limited to accessible terrain. Basically, a good spell for PvE, conserves Lances and Beads (and without multiple runs you are starving for high-end spells after a certain point anyway).

Lets hope the Legend dies in Dark Souls 2. 77 fast rolling poise giant dads is ridiculous.

I wouldn't mind them if they had to wield daggers or something. If weapons all weighed like twice or three times what they currently do it'd be a lot more balanced. A halberd or greatsword may technically weigh less than a suit of armor but it'd certainly hinder your movement a lot more. It's silly that weapon weights are so trivialized. The only things with real weight were the great axes/hammers and the 2 or 3 heaviest shields. Anything else only cost you like 10-15 poise at the very most.

Lets go back to Demon's Souls where the Dragon bone Smasher had hyper armor and could smash so hard you'd go flying.

Keep poise, but make it so those very large weapons (and heavy) don't give a shit.

Everytime I see this guy, he looks exhausted and on the verge of a nervous breakdown. He's definitely working on the appropriate game then.

Subtitles are a bit small and poorly colored, but the actual content is fine.
