They replaced it with their own proprietary DRM called Enigma.

Enigma is some weird ass product made by a bunch of Russians that is frequently flagged as malware by many virus detectors.

If you don't want Soyrin and Vladimir stealing your passwords then stay the fuck away from any game with this shit installed.

That is why I don't treat e-"shops" like Steam seriously. Bought a couple of RE games on Steam last year, inclined with Goldberg emu and Steamless, archived using WinRar. Now both Capcom and Steam can kiss my ass with their "updates".

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
If you have the option of emulating and don't you deserve your CPU to burn out 15% faster as a board room of Japanese execs jack off to your porn history.

Despite Capcom using Denuvo in their games, they were doing pretty well on PC and had a good record of removing it after a year or two. Guess they couldn't handle all the praise and decided to fuck things up for some arbitrary reason.

If this guy is correct, they've always had DRM on their old games even if Denuvo was removed:

Capcom got pissed about nude mods - and people not paying 108$ for SF6 sexy costume DLCs.

Dropping Denuvo in Steam version means nothing - due to mandatory updates on the platform. Every game can be retroactively made worse - like GTA San Andreas or GTA IV had been.

I had not bought any game on Steam since they've introduced mandatory updates.

Steam allowing publishers to do scummy things with their games after the refund period had passed - or breaking games and mods through irrelevant but mandatory patches - is too much for me.

There is probably a viable lawsuit in various countries on the refund policy. If a game completely changes and is no longer functional to you then the product is no longer fit for purpose. That's legally a good way to force refunds and Valve try to fight it.

"Tanaka-san, don't you think it's a bad idea to do business with a Russian company, what with the embargo?"
"Nah, fuck the gaijin and their big titty nude mods! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to jack of to big titty doujin of Chun-li."

Capcom did it again: Denuvo removed from Monster Hunter Rise, Enigma added in its place.

It looks like Monster Hunter Rise is the latest Capcom game to get a controversial DRM update

Following controversy earlier this month, another Capcom games appears to have Enigma DRM.

Monster Hunter: Rise - the latest entry in Capcom's popular action series - appears to have had the controversial Enigma DRM added in to the PC version with a recent patch. This comes after another of Capcom's games, Resident Evil: Revelations, also got the same DRM added to it earlier this month.

This was discovered first on Twitter by user Daka RF:T, who posted a screenshot of the Enigma present in the game's .exe file. This comes at the same time as the game seemingly has stopped working on Steam Deck, an issue Capcom is reportedly trying to fix as announced in a Steam news post.

> Add new DRM
> In the process: break the game on all Steam Decks and any PCs using a similar processor.
> The DRM is blamed; assumed intentional
> Capcom receives 0 benefit of the doubt
> Game immediately gets a minor but deserved review bomb to "Mostly Negative"

You love to see it

That said, Enigma really should be listed on the store page as a radioactive warning, just like Denuvo or "requires uPlay".

I figured this was coming and stopped MH Rise and World from updating. It's a pity that you have to play offline if you do that when half the fun in these games is helping out noobs. And yes, the new patch completely bricked the game on Steam Deck when it came out. Capcom, of course, with great patience and wisdom, told customers to get fucked while they figured it out. Where reasonable human beings would have done a rollback and abandoned this idiocy of adding DRM to games years old, Capcom chose to break new ground.

FluffyQuack is an experienced modder, is knowledgeable and claims this isn't a big deal... but I think that's only if modding is your only concern. I'll take a wait and see approach, but I don't appreciate what Cap is doing. Just remove Denuvo and be done with it. If you want new trash DRM use it on your new games and inform users of what they are buying.
