Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, which was officially announced in May, will shape the next 10 to 20 years of the Dragon Quest series, Square Enix president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda said in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu.

Dragon Quest XII is being developed taking into account the next 10 to 20 years of the Dragon Quest series,” Matsuda said.

He added, “There are parts that remain consistent with the traditional image of Dragon Quest, but new elements are also necessary. After all, as a brand we always need to innovate.”

Hmm...

someone made a tool/script that allows hacking the Party Chat dialog back into an english-language rom of DQ 4 on NDS:

https://github.com/concreted/dqiv-nds-en-script-patcher

you'll need to acquire both a japanese ROM of dq4 and your english-lang ROM of dq4, though this is easy enough,

Actually, reading this through it seems to be somewhat of a lengthy process to get this working. Seems doable. I'm lazy though so I'll wait until someone does the process (using python 3) and generates a patched jpn ROM w/ english script + party chat and uploads it somewhere.

What I wanted for the future of the series, or whatever the last question was: Keep it turn-based and classic jrpg.

Dragon Quest X Offline will be out February 26 in Japan.

No word on worldwide release and Steam page is region locked outside of Japan: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1358750/X/

The most optimistic explanation is that, since this only includes the first expansion (there's currently 5 and will be 6 when Offline launches), they'll expand it later, then release it in the west when it's actually complete.

One bit of interest is that they even bothered with a PC release for a Nippon only release. Reminds me of how Capcom expects PC to soon be at least 50% of their sales and how horrible PS5 software sells over there.

Edit: Apparently the part of them doing the expansions as DLC is confirmed. Expansion 2 is coming Spring 2022 as DLC.

Beat it.
:2/5:
I didn't like the magic key mechanism, it seems that developers just wanted to make game longer without adding more content.
At some point I got bored and used a map to find out where the fuck should I go.
Nothing special really and I didn't expect much.
Ok let's play the second one.

What version? I understand that DQ2 varies heavily based on what version you play because the original Famicom version was super rushed to the point one of the three character is so useless his most iconic attribute is being left dead 90% of the game due to him never getting any new equipment halfway through the game and having low growths on top of it.

DQ3 and DQ9 still remain my favorites. I like the class and party based systems, what can I say. Bought the latest one but it's too much production value and too slow of a start for me. Is it worth it to press on?

Did you enable Draconian settings? If not restart immediatly with them.
If it is still too boring even with them, then I'd play until Slayer of Sands. He should be 15 hours in or so, and is a pretty good sign of the bossfights, which DQ XI does really well. If Slayer of Sands on stronger monsters is no fun you can safely drop.

Koichi Sugiyama passed away. R.I.P.

You delivered a lot of tunes that I love.

I wonder who his successor will be.

He was a great musician and 90 is a ripe age.
I don't think his music got notably worse for XI either, I think people were just disappointed by the bad audio quality of the MIDI track.

Resetera and other places celebrating like Hitler just died.

Absolute trash. And without the self-awareness of their own shitty beliefs with the amount of people they want dead or in the gulag.

Absolutely. I am very proud of the codex for having none of that here. You can't judge a man from a different culture and generation by the morals of your culture and generation. Being so appaled at the views that most Japanese hold while slurping up Japanese media in droves makes them hypocrites of the worst order.

If they only would talk to actual people from Japan, the second thing my Japanese teacher said to me after introduction was how much she hates China and Korea.

Rest in peace Sugiyama, your soundtrack fueled dreams of many generations.

I can't belive that people are celebrating the death of someone who just had different opinions and had actually not done anything bad. Aren't they suppose to be the morally superior people? Bullshit.

I can't even tell you how I feel right now.
My life wouldn't be the same without his music; rest in peace.

Dragon Quest would simply not be Dragon Quest without his work. I am especially fond of his work on the 8-bit titles.

I have to defend this guy a bit. The one thing that everyone brings up to prove Sugiyama was a vile fascist who wants to kill all gays is that he laughed at the 60% higher suicide rate of gay kids during a talk show with a politician, Mio Sugita. That would be evil (but has nothing to do with fascism) if it were true, but it's not. The clip is on Youtube for all to see:

Sugita: "I was asked for my opinion on whether we need to be teaching LGBT in school, and I said, 'Of course not.'"
Another person off camera: "Right? (laughs)
Sugita: "So then they tell me, 'homosexual kids have a 60% higher suicide rate than heterosexual kids'."
Sugiyama: "Okay."
Sugita: "Next they are asking me, 'SO NOW HOW CAN YOU SAY WE DON'T NEED TO TEACH IT?'"
(everyone laughs)
Sugita: "It's just not high priority. Teachers have to deal with crazy parents, class disruptions, things like that. There's no time for it."

They are laughing not at kids killing themselves, but at her exaggerated depiction of how the other party reacted in the story she's recounting. Anyone interpreting this as some kind of anti-gay hate speech does not understand Japanese well (or at all), or is willfully misinterpreting it to fit their agenda (or, most likely are just parroting what they read in their favorite vacuum chamber forum or on some clickbait game news site).

fuck'em. their only achievement in life will be getting 100 likes on that one twitter virtue signal post that one time and hating everything and everyone around them while pretending to be saints. fuck'em.

RIP Sugiyama. I was always more of a Final Fantasy man but your influence rippled throughout the industry and you did great works.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
i don't share, even profoundly against his opinion, but that's no reason to celebrate his death tbh. just in poor taste and his work is still some of the iconic musics in gaming.

Dragon Quest 8 was my first entry to the series and also my favorite soundtrack due to how it sounds like a "light hearted adventure" when compared to usual serious orchestra and guitars that JRPGs usually have.

Regarding his controversal views though, I really don't give a shit since he's only expressing his views and not acting them out.

Anyone here can enlighten me why he is so hated by the Leftist sites like Resetera and Reddit? i only heard about him denying japanese war crimes so that part about gays caught me off guard.

It's opinion anyway. I can't even say I have strong feelings about it. EVERY Asian country is big on war crime denial. That isn't limited to the Japanese and as Thac0 already said it's cultural and historical reasons. It's always easy to judge this shit outside of this bubble, but this doesn't make it any less real for the people involved. I also understand Chinese being angry at the guy for the same reason.

As for the teaching LGBT thing I 100% agree with him. But, he backtracked on that anyway so I don't know what the big deal there is.
