Far as I know only 1 word was mistranslated as "sex education" (sei-kyou-iku) instead of "puritanism" (sei-kyou-to).
But that doesn't really change the overall meaning of what was said.

Yeah, the one mistranslated word that the person doing the translation misheard isn’t even the part of the video that anyone on either side was interested in. It also doesn’t change the context of anything being said. It doesn’t change that all three people in that interview think the changes are stupid and don’t understand why they’re being made. It doesn’t change that the creator of Dragon Quest thinks the body type thing is dumb, and it doesn’t change the Jump editors overall opinion.

It is most definitely damage control spin because a very small group of idiots got pissed off that the creator of Dragon Quest thinks this shit is dumb too. If anything, the reaction to that video (and what’s been going on with certain games bombing lately) should’ve emboldened Square Enix to reverse course on this bullshit.

My guess would be that Square Enix has people on the western side of things telling them the way ResetEra thinks about things is how most people in the western market think, so you better fucking change this shit and not step out of line if you want to sell there. And Japanese studios need some kind of risk management group for the western market because the Japanese market has basically shifted completely to mobile over the last nine to eleven years. The problem is media has these risk management departments now that have seemingly become indoctrinated. It’s kind of like The Wicker Man, you had businessmen once upon a time that didn’t buy any of this bullshit that were just coming up with some ways that companies could stop people from yelling at them on the internet or whatever, but now we’re years from that starting point and the risk management people seem to be true believers trying to change things for their own personal ideological reasons...which funnily enough has now become a risk to the companies.

I honestly wasn't paying attention but the new DQ3 will now be considered the first (since it is a prequel) then 1+2 will be rereleased with additional content. I wonder if it'll be worth it. DQ1 is pretty damn short so I can't imagine what they'll fill it with.

This makes me wonder what they'll do to DQ1 & 2. I also wonder if it'll hit mobile. Wasn't the FF series also getting this treatment? I just watched a few vids on ALL the versions of FF1 & 2 and some of the later versions are missing content or extras. It almost becomes a Pokémon game to play them all.

I read about that. It is because the third one is considered a prequel before #1 then #2 happens. Correct chronological order. What a Chrono Trigger! Badum bum tsssshhh.

Still, 1 + 2 will have to have some major extra and QOL compared to what is out now. Maybe that foursome will happen... maybe.

So, I'm working on my IOS list and get to STEAM. Am I imaging it or are there absolutely no early Dragon Quests on STEAM. I swore a few years ago they were all there. I know IOS is missing VII for retarded reasons and maybe google play is as well. The new new remasters will be on steam but the old are gone or never were. I expected to see one of those compilations of 1-8 like Final Fantasy. So wtf?

STEAM LIST

Maybe Nintendo is hoarding, let me check.

Nintendo Store USA List

Uh what? It is because of the new ultra remasters eh? But there are a lot of entries missing. This makes me ponder if getting all the ios versions is a must before they're stripped off. Same with Final Fantasy.

releasing in 'reverse chronological order' is retarded for any reason other than the clear business related reason. DQ3 is being released first cos its the most popular entry in Japan. Releasing them like this kinda hurts what little story there was in the first three games. DQ2 being the 'last' game kinda makes its twist less significant, and DQ3's even moreso. Doesn't matter too much considering that the stories are pretty threadbare as it is, so whatever.
I'm more hoping that we get robust Draqonian Quest features like DQ11 did. 8&11 have great difficulty pacing, and the latter's extra oomph is something I want more of with these games. DQ1 is my fave of the original three titles, and having a proper difficulty, with some thought out challenge to it in the form of status effects can really make things more interesting. it'll be a shame if they retroactively put party members in some form though. I hope Horii and crew really just think about how to work on a one party jRPG, and make the combat dynamics interesting to suit it. either way, gonna purchase the game day one. (DEI shit is a real bummer though).

Did they ever introduce "paper doll" aspects to the other entries? I played DQ IX a lot and enjoyed the dungeoneering aspect and kitting out my dudes, although it did make the game completely and utterly lifeless, it was fun collecting armor and weapons and the like, in a quasi-Diablo sense of things.

Paper doll would be nice and maybe visual inventory art rather than a name but I can live with either. I don't need to play Tetris in every game.

DQ8 and onward there were certain armors that change your appearance. Even going back to NES DQ3, certain armors would do this, such as the bikini or... cat bell, i think, that would change your avatar into a cat. DQ9, and probably the MMO are the only games that will change your appearance on a per-slot basis, though.

Nope. Dragon Quest had never been released on PC before XI.

DQ1-8 saw remasters on DS/3DS (1-3 were exclusive to Japan). Don't know if Nintendo site still shows 3DS games.

Yes. The mobile versions of 4-6 are the best versions of the games - 4 in particular has fully translated party chat, which was missing from the OG 3DS release (although it is available through a fan-patch - but it is kinda buggy).

That looks pretty nice tbh. I bet the size will be big considering all the new stuff and gfx/sfx style. I guess the next will be I & II in a single package but going from a party to solo to small party just seems jarring. I know this is the chronological beginning of the saga but I will always be my first. So, I'm actually more curious about the next installment.

Are the Final Fantasy games getting the same treatment?

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
What is everyone's take on the pricing? DQ3 is a top tier game for sure. My gut says it's worth the $60 price tag on release as they've done a lot to update it. This is way more effort than they did for the FF Pixel Remasters. I'm just excited if we get this treatment for the Zenithia Trilogy.

I'm gonna buy it at launch because it's the only game I'm buying this year and I'm retarded. That said, I'm not paying 60€, i'll take the 47€ GMG offer.

It's certainly worth it from a development effort standpoint. Between the voice acting and all the new animations they did for stuff (to be fair, they probably lifted most of them from monsters re-used in DQ 4/5 but still obviously had to do a ton of work giving them a facelift) there was a lot of actual money put into this.

DQ3 is among the best of the series too imo; more complex than earlier titles but still holding onto that open world exploration focus they eventually lost sight of.

If it's not worth the money, it'd only be because it's got a lot of competition from other similar games, but I feel like that's not the case either. Indie titles trying to ape older rpgs of this scale have failed pretty miserably AFAIK. Smaller ones tend to do pretty well, but all the bigger ones have huge flaws with game mechanics at a minimum.
