What kind of algorithms was he using for this?

I am trying to puzzle it out

1. Generate a number, numa, for a specific installation.

2. Run numa through algorithm x to generate the unlock code, numb.

3. Run numb (and probably numa) through algorithm y to determine if numb is a genuine unlock code.
Yes. And exact formulae was revealed shortly after release. The only "uncrackable" games were Nethergate and BoE. Just because demo versions was incomplete betas.

inconvenience to pirates.

1.Go to piratebay.
2.Search for Spiderweb keygen.
3.???
4.Profit.

Though simple to nerds like us, that's beyond most people - hence why even on piratebay, you get thousands of "what is a rar" comments.
Did you get born knowing what is a rar, or something like that?

Because I didn't. I distinctly remember getting precise instructions about how to unpack archived files from the seller when buying demo disks for my first PC. But it's not like it's some horrible obstacle. People ask and get answers and then use that knowledge.

the final answer to piracy is either to give games for free or create a base of loyal followers by making good shit like let's say paradox
No, every person in this thread used torrents to get their copies or keygens. Seems pretty obvious what the solution to fight piracy is. What, are people going to go back to BBS's?
Torrents are so 200X.

If you don't know what rar, zip, lha, arj and ha is, why are you writing comments on TPB? Back to the books, slacker!

More like learn to use google. The real difference between computer-literate and computer illiterate people is the way they get information, not being or not being nerds, geeks, etc.
Computer-literate people simply google stuff until they find it or come to conclusion that there's no such information available and search for a place where they can find some information. Computer-illiterate people simply find someone to do it for them because they can't imagine that answer to their problem may be one google search away.

Nope. I learned to use archivers on the C64. Heard about Unix and .tar's. Moved to PC eventually, .zip and .arj came along, AND BACK THEN YOU STILL HAD TO USE DOS MAN, usage was very straight forward, then came .rar and since you already knew about .zip and the rest, it was easy.

No I don't expect you to pick everything up as a newbie from the start. BUT I WOULD FUCKING EXPECT YOU TO FIGURE OUT SOMETHING AS FUCKING STRAIGHT FORWARD AS .RAR AND AN INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE IF YOU'RE GOING TO CHECK OUT THIS PIRATEBAY THING AND PIRATE YOUR FPS GAYMES.

But this is all inconsequential. Vogel is an assmonkey.
