Who even gives these fucks the authority to hand out these awards? As a long-time gamer year after year I disagree with 95% of the nominations. Let's see: [Link removed. would rather not give them traffic]

Nominees for most categories of The Game Awards are chosen by an international jury of over 95 global media and influencer outlets, selected for their history of critical evaluation of video games.

Game journalists. Who are well known among actual gamers (all 10% of us) to be in the publisher's pockets or a total joke whom criticize games with an approach based in zero investigative, analytic or journalistic integrity. Sometimes the game isn't even "reviewed", just used to push their disconnected and completely irrelevant pseudo-intellectual political agenda. OK.

FF7 remake is best game evar! Fuck off. Just like 99% of remakes this shit industry keeps shitting out, whether you like it or not the original is vastly superior and way more award-worthy. It actually achieved feats not accomplished before at the time. And that game is old, old news to the point that people forget what it is actually like and think this trash remake is anywhere near as noteworthy. This is what we've come to. Couldn't they have just stuck to the usual joke of giving the cinematic naughty dog type games the awards? At least they weren't abysmal "remakes".

You're missing the point. It would be a hilarious confirmation of the ineptitude and incompetence of current-gen game developers, if an awful remake of a game from 23 years ago would still be considered a better videogame than anything the creatively bankrupt dangerhaired squadron of "developers" of this era have come up with.

Watch as a chinese mobile-gaming developer takes home best RPG because they managed to combine japanese art-style and gacha-monetization with somewhat western combat and progression and created the most successful online game in history, recouping their entire $100million budget in less than 2 weeks. Kotick, Wilson and Guillemot are frothing.

I like that perspective a lot, in a bittersweet way.

Codex Year of the Donut
Looks like a depressing year, even for mainstream gaming standards
A transitional year for RPGs, a lot of stuff coming out soon.
For strategy games.... I guess indie tactic games fill the void for those left out by the MOBA transition years ago. Kind of.
The last strategy game I had fun with was They Are Billions.

I got a feeling that Persona 5 Royal was added after Cyberpunk got delayed. It's just an enhanced edition of a 2016 game, it's like nominating Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Enhanced Plus Edition.

Guess they have to shoe that in because heaven's forbid adding an actual 2020 RPG like The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk.

It's not like anybody takes them seriously

The inclusive future of videogames looks depressing.

Of course they are giving all prizes to TloU2.

Halley Gross was so surprised she had a speech written on her phone.

This show has no authority, the awards mean nothing, they have no weight outside of forum fanboy contests. People are trying to make this show The One, but it's not happening.

And TLOU2 won, just as expected. Sony has to boost those disappointing sales numbers somehow, a GOTY edition will help
And another year without an Elden Ring or Dragon's Dogma 2 reveal went by

Why is that indie piece of shit Hades nominated in so many categories? Played that crap when it came out in the EGS last year and uninstalled it after 5 min (I pirated it of course)
These awards keep getting worse every year, what a feat. Ghost of Fukushima beating TLOU2 and GBFV winning FG of the year would be nice tho
it was announced at the 2018 dorito pope awards and funnily enough it was featured in the first epic games store ad i remember watching - so i guess it's finally come full circle

looking at this year's Best Narrative nominees actually made me regret railing against disco elysium so hard, i'm fully expecting last of us 2 to pick up most of these awards in the most hilarious and soul-crushing outcome possible
once again i am objectively correct about everything ever
