The Last of Us 2 Beats The Witcher 3 for Most Game of the Year Awards
The Last of Us Part II has swept the 2020 Game of The Year Awards, overtaking the previous record-holder for most GOTY's in history, The Witcher 3.

By Astrid Sparks Jan 26, 2021

The post-apocalyptic sequel game The Last of Us Part II has blown past the competition, receiving more Game of the Year (GOTY) Awards than any other game released, not only in 2020 but of all time.

The Naughty Dog game has, at the time of this writing, received 261 GOTY Awards, overtaking the previous record-setter The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by one award to become the most winning game in history
. While The Witcher sequel still holds the record for most awards from the Media Outlets category with 172 awards, The Last of Us Part II has been pushed to number one largely due to the Readers' Choice category. As vote-counting continues, the new game currently holds 92 Readers' Choice awards.

Among this year's contenders were popular 2020 titles Hades, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which have all won Game of the Year awards from multiple outlets. However, the closest competitor was the action role-playing game Hades, developed and published by Supergiant Games, which achieved 53 GOTY awards as runner-up.

The Last of Us Part II has broken several records since its release, from critical receptions to sales. Two months into the game's launch, it became the third highest-selling PlayStation game in the United States, ranking only below 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man and God of War in terms of PS4 American sales. However, despite its obvious popularity and critical acclaim, the game has experienced a contentious run. A vocal minority of gamers review-bombed The Last of Us Part II for including a strong, visible LGBTQ+ lead in Ellie. Certain pre-release plot leaks also soured some fans of the original game to the sequel's characters and writing choices before experiencing the game in full. One major point of controversy was the additional playable character Abigail "Abby" Anderson, and the character's voice actor even received death threats after gamers took issue with her violent and complex arc.

Featuring elements from the survival-horror genre as well as action and open-world exploration, The Last of Us Part II picks up five years after the events of its predecessor, The Last of Us. Ellie and Joel, the previous protagonists, have settled in Wyoming before a tragic event sets Ellie down a dark path of revenge. As players learn more about the circumstances surrounding both Ellie's thirst for revenge and the impetus for the violence that it inspired, the audience is forced to face the futility of the neverending cycle of retribution.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Sony Is japanese

Not anymore.
I'd bet the upper echelons of Sony were caught just as unprepared for the US cultural revolution that started a couple of years ago as everyone else.

It remains to be seen if they move to clean up the act of their loony Kwan subsidiaries. Maybe they aren't doing anything dramatic yet because, like it or not, stuff like Uncharted 4 or TLoU2 wasn't a commercial flop. But if they start seeing they're bleeding money due to wokeism I doubt they'll just sit and twiddle their thumbs.

Tbh what worries me more is the ever disappearing gap between Sony and Nintendo. At least from their last year presentations overflowing with cartoony, cutesy, child-like, zero T aesthetics it was clear they see Nintendo's success and they wanna their own slice of that sweet hikkomori pie.

So happy I skipped this turd. TLoU1 was an entertaining zombie apocalypse romp that I enjoyed quite a bit. I knew something fishy was going on though when they pulled a Dumbledore and turned Elli or whatever it's name is into a dyke in the DLC. I'll never purchase another Naughty Dog Rapist product ever again.

Sometimes I forget that the codex tastes are just contrarian and not based on the actual quality of the videogame in question. Now that you fuckers realized that TLoU2 was disliked by the general public, the massive campaign of redemption starts.

Soon you will start claiming that it was an intellectual masterpiece misunderstood by casual gamers, or a brilliant satire on a modern clownworld. Of course you all were huge fans of it since day one, and obviously such a prestigious, contrarian and edgy videogame deserves a spot in the codex top 100

Every Codexer having a console needs to be ashamed of himself, much less praising a console exclusive.

I agree with this but exceptions should be made for JRPG fans. Even I broke down and borrowed a PS4 from someone to play P5R. I was also pretty happy when someone gave me a Switch for Christmas a few years ago. Fire Emblem Three Houses is amazing.

Being a JRPG fan is much worse than owning a console.

Disliked by the general public? They just promoted the jew guy sick in the head fucker that likes tranny torture porn sex and was the director of this thing to be vice president, I dont think they would do that if this garbage really flopped hard, we will only know that for sure on the next games this garbage company produces. I dont hold my breath that the average gamer retard will know better, decades of overwhelming evidence on their retardation makes me very skeptical.

If you are talking of some youtubers tards that are shitting on this turd, why anyone would be a contrarian to their opinion? Yes, this is a shit game and Cyberpunk was a fraud operation that only existed on CDPR Marketing department, that is the same as some tard saying the sky is blue, sure, he is a tard but it doesnt mean I need to say it is purple just to not agree with him. There are 365 days on the year and even tards might be right on one of them.
