SAM felt cheap, there is no narrative nor physical content for him, woulda been fun to customize a robot like in MotB or just bring ADA along Mass Effect style

Imagine ADA in a Sexy Body like EDI in ME3

:shredder:

I think it could have been something like you'd need to build a new body for her every time she gets destroyed in combat. I wouldn't expect sexy robot body...sexy anything from Obsidian at this point :negative:

Or ADA taking over robot enemies - tied to hacking skill.

This sounds kinda like that FO4 DLC , Automatron.. But i agree. It would be cool to create a body for ADA and have something beyond the basic computer and robot hacking. After all she travel a shit ton with Hawtorne and could be interesting to bring along.

What's the use of setting up the table and chairs for eight with silverware and embroidery and then serving watery soup spread thin over stale hardtacks.

On that note: Obs didn't utilize the ship in Deadfire, everything in it was static, rarely used as a meeting spot with NPCs or carrying cargo or interactions with crew etc. Again here we're the captain of a smuggler ship and we haven't smuggled shit, haven't took anyone other than companions aboard and companions were mostly static with no where near the content Mass Effect games had(on board the ship). Its like they thought "it makes sense for player to have a ship in this setting for transportation between locations" rather than "our protag will be a ship captain, let's build on that" in both games.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Strap Yourselves In Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
I think a bunch of the content ideas people are suggesting in here already came to Tim or Leonard's minds, but they tossed those ideas aside because of budgetary concerns. Everything about this game is so safe because they did everything they could to not go over-budget. I'm betting it's at least partially because of PTSD from the Troika days.

Of course this doesn't excuse what is in the game being bad (e.g. the writing), that's just nu-Obsidian being nu-Obsidian.

You mean SAM

Can someone explain this to me? I see half a dozen posts here saying SAM is the best companion and he has been dry and boring as fuck in the few times I have had him in the party. He is no HK-47, that is for sure. A couple little hip cleaning jokes just like all the other 'so in on the joke' writing in the entire game is all I see from him. Am I missing something? Asking in all honesty, he seems to just throw incredibly generic quips out. Vicar Max seems to be the high bar of companions here, as sad as that is. Even Parvati has a certain 'aww shucks' sort of country girl naivete about her, but SAM so far sounds like how an uncreative california hipster robot would write, well... a robot. *shrug*

The other companions(sans Max) are so bad that a companion who barely speaks is an improvement.
Parvati probably would have been more well received here if her companion quest was actually related at all to her. Everything you learn about her in the first town basically goes out the window for "lol lesbian asexual date nite!!!"
Her mom? Who cares.

Fine, saying ME1 was great on a site called RPGCodex even though it's bad RPG-wise was stupid. I'll own that.. and use the noob card.

Don't worry, every following year a terrible RPG is released which makes all the older RPGs look better. That's the bottom line of decline. Give it enough time and ME1 will be considered as one of the best RPGs ever made.

Future Codexers are going to be discussing what a disappointment TOW4 is, and how TOW was a true RPG, superior in every possible way to anything that followed.

Especially if you count that in Firefly shit usually happens because you take some cargo or passenger. I.e. it's tied to your ship and your captain job.

SAM with Parvati make a pretty funny combo. They have plenty of good banter between the robot and the engineer. He has some good non-combat interactions as well, talked down some robots for me into surrendering.

As for the ship, one thing that annoys me is companions usually interact with each other upstairs in the mess hall during travels, but there's never any reason for you to go there. So you just end up missing all of it. They should have put the mess hall near the bridge so the ship would feel more alive.

Well, ADA does tell you every time you come on the ship who is interacting there (e.g. "Felix and Vicar Max are having a heated conversation," etc). So you can run up there and hear it if you want to. But I agree, it is not very spontaneous the way the ship is arranged.

The captain on a ship stuff is so meh in this I think they would have been better off just keeping it to one open world planet. Maybe that was beyond the project's scope though, I dunno.

Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
The codex is filled with combatfags
Planescape torment is still the #1 RPG in the top xxx poll several times in a row

Disco elysium is the second coming and then some.
Planescape: Torment isn't an rpg though. All threads about it and all posts mentioning it should be moved to https://rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?forums/adventure-gaming.24/
Dude, how about go fuck yourself with your fucking edgy ass shit posts. Are you done yet?

Up above is my post about TOW, that stated exactly what we're discussing today: it has bad stuff, it has good stuff, but it's bland - aimed at the 100 IQ demographic.

A few posts above my post is you. In hindsight, edgy as fuck, amirite?

Sucking your own cock must sound nice - but tell me more about you having made an account here much earlier than I, because that's the true measure of quality of posts and ideas, amirite?

Amirite, dawg?

How about P:T - is it still not an RPG?

Get the fuck out.

Wasteland.
Just playing this in normal. Way too easy. Is Supernova very HP bloated? Don't want to empty one mag after another.
It is. Enemies have more HP, and deal x2 damage, I think? It's fallout difficulty. Suggestion: Go melee or handguns. Heavy weapons is also possible and long guns is lolguns.

Monarch has been the most interesting part of the game thus far, but man that side quest where you have to look for the missing dock employee was so embarassing.

Not only its almost a complete rip-off of the Andale unmarked quest from Fallout 3, but its an extremely poorly executed rip-off. The second you enter the house its like they just slaped a neon sign saying "we are a family of canibals" to the player. Theres no suspense because the twist is too on the nose for you to care about what you will find inside the house.

Worst quest of the game imo.
